Unless Wii bombs at retail, the PS3 will not have led one single week in the next-gen console wars in Japan, at least until the end of 2006.

Will Mario get ONE WEEK to shine as the #1 DS seller in japan? Or will the combined efforts of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl beat, thrash, embarass, and strip Mario bare of the title before it reaches his grasp?

Stay tuned for next weeks episode of:

DQ9 will go to the console with the highest userbase. Always has, always will.

Yes, we all enjoyed playing DQV on the Genesis.

Oh and do you remember how awesome it was when Enix announced DQVII for the Sega Saturn?

First one sold 90k on first week....but well, DOA3 sold >200k too and DOA4 still less than 100k. Expected but weak.
It's on a smaller userbase this time around.

The increase in 360 sales to 7k does give some hope. Blue Dragon needs to move some serious hardware.

Funny on your part, but DQ7 actually was in development for Saturn at one point. :x

Btw, at what point was MegaDrive leading Super Famicom or even PC Engine in Japanese sales month to month?

With 1.5m DS units Nintendo will ship during December, DS LTD sales at the end of the year will surpass 14m mark.
35m worldwide at the end of the year? wow. :D

That's what I want to know. Nintendo had something like 85% of the Japan market share with the SNES overall. DQV was released in Japan in 92, so it boils down to the number of SNES systems vs. the number of Genesis systems in Japan at the time of DQV's release..

Most of the YTD's are incorrect, but your LTD's are spot on except from the combined GBA sales. They should be 15,280,180.

I didn't bother to check the YTDs jesusraz posted because I don't think they're important numbers. The 360 YTD was the only one stood out as a glaring mistake so I corrected it. But yea my GBA LTD was off. Thanks for pointing that out.

Wait, the PS3 sales went DOWN? I was expecting flat to up given production ramps. Weird.

The question is, how many PS3s did Sony ship. And if it's above the 40K mark... well that'd definitely be a problem.

I thought Love and Berry had over 1 million pre-orders? So basically they are going to be sold out for another 600,000 or so copies.

Store pre-orders, not customer pre-orders. :)

Of course, the game will sell 1mil no problem anyway.

Megadrive (Genesis) sold less, in Japan, than Super Famicom (SNES) and PC-Engine (Turbographx), so i think it's hard it got first place...

but too much time has been passed, we don't have so much information, i might be wrong :)

A lot of people bought their DSs just to play Love and Berry. This is great news for both Sega and Nintendo

So that's when you believe the Wii will be completely sold out and Japanese gamers will have to settle with getting a PS3?

Yeah, I foresee a small boost in sales of Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, and Tamagachi pretty soon.

Heh, yeah. My no-research guess is that last week's PS2/PSP numbers were low because of people wanting a PS3... but they realized that was a fruitless effort and went ahead and got what they wanted this week. So last week's and this week's averaged make for a normal PS2/PSP week.

Cool to see new Pac-Mans. :lol

I know that the 360 has no chance of being a hit in Japan, but it'd be interesting if these trends continue. I wonder if it would effect PS3 sales.

Congratulations, Kurosaki Ichigo! :D

Maybe Media-Create was feeling muffed that the fake numbers were getting press, so they released the real numbers early. :lol

It's great to see that after all of the attention the huge companies were getting years ago in the gaming industry, Nintendo and now Sega (this week) are the big winners.

Worth noting that the Pink PSP was released in Japan last week, as well as a silver and a pink PS2. That would account for the dip in sales the week before (waiting for the new colours) and the increase this week.

"1. (DS, Sega) Love and Berry DS Collection - 421,227"

This has to be the best selling game I've never heard of. Ok, I heard the name couple of times before, but WTF is that game?

Oh man the Wii will kill pacman. :(

Maybe we should combine the DSL and Wii so pacman will live next week. A mutation of sorts. :lol
Already possible, more or less. I haven't gotten around to the variant being talked about last week where one could view a console-only, portable-only, or certain-manufacturer-only chart.

EDIT: As long as I'm pointing out that variant again, I might as well point out my Request a Graph page which I haven't mentioned in months. Choose a type of graph, week, how things are grouped, and size.

360 did pretty well. I was expecting past 10,000 but DOAC probably inst selling much to new buyers. Culdcept was probably what moved hardware. Hopefully Blue Dragon will give a much bigger boost.

Aw, the family is all together.

Why the PSP boost though?

Also, I like how the DS sold 200k in a normal non-holiday week, and nobody flinched. Remember when 50k was "OMG"?

the question is... how many DSLs is Nintendo piling up for december...
what's the biggest title for the holiday season in japan?

Holy ****! I didn't realize it's gotten so close.

It's only a matter of time before DS/DSL overtake the Gameboy family. ;) It seems like Nintendo has been successful at capturing the segment of the population that don't play games, which is one of the reasons why DS/DS Lite has taken off big time. Wii will probably fall into the same boat. Major props to Nintendo for advancing and growing the market.

This is oustanding. The other figure was even more impressive though: the DS will have sold in about 2 years the same amount of units than the GBA in its entire lifetime. This DS console is destined to break records in Japan. And it will do so going beyond the usual console audience. This mere Sega game example shows Nintendo suceeded in creating a product that sells as much to gamers as to non gamers. And there's no reason the wii won't mimic this pattern. People can say all the things they want (mostly handlelds =/= consoles), I have no doubt we'll witness the same type of success.
