Wow Just dance 1 & 2 in top 10 (probably not first time but still)

I bet many people didn't know there was number 2.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
What the fuck is wrong with the UK? DKCR not even in the top 40?

If Retro get shafted I'm coming for your blood. All your bloods.

DKCR was not the follow-up to NSMBWii Ninty had hoped, so it seems.

DK's never had the mainstream appeal of Mario, Nintendo would never have expected it to come close to NSMBW's sales.

That said it'll absolutely pound the NPD in a few days, it sold nearly 500K last month in a few days and it's raced to 600K in Japan already. And it's charting high in France, Germany and the like. It'll do great.

Yeah, but something's up when DKC is being outsold by so many other Wii games. Where is it in the Wii chart?

Edit: number 7. Behind GoldenEye. The battle of the ex-Rare franchises.

Yeah in the UK they won't see the same results, strange given its a very similar game and Donkey Kong is an iconic character.

Ah well at least the US and JP still have good taste :lol

It's crazy. Why did it vanish just like that in the UK of all markets?

It seems impossible for UK to have consistent good taste. I see games like Layton selling so well there and am impressed and then DKCR gets outsold by crap like the Michael Jackson Experience.

frankie_baby said:

Stock and price problems, I think - it seemed to shoot up to over £40 everywhere pre-Xmas...

As strange as it is, the drop DKCR experienced isn't that surprising, even if stock problems and price are the main factors, NSMBWii never sold that well compared to other big Nintendo games, so DKCR underperforming as a result seems normal. Or it could be that Nintendo/retailers underestimated how popular it'd sell there and really screwed up on the shipment.

I think it may be soldout. I normally wouldn't suggest something like that, but it just fell the fuck off the charts instead of slowly descending and then hovering down there at the bottom. DKC series never sold as much as SMB but so far the sales seem to indicate that it will reach close to the high sales of the original DKC. I think it's very likely that when all is said and done it will outsell Twilight Princess. So roughly 6-9 million worldwide in sales.

DKCR was sabotaged by Game's price increase. Simple as.
Didnt someone say in a previous PAL Chart thread that it was Nintendo who increased the price?

And out of curiousity, is GAME that big in the UK that a £5 price increase on a game will make the game drop out of the top 40?

Yeah I don't buy that such a small increase in price can affect it that much. It's not like the potential new buyers would even know bout the price increase in the first place.

HMV's price hasn't increased and yes, Game are that big.

On the high street, there are only 3 options really. Game, Gamestation (who are owned by Game) and HMV. These three stores dominate high street game sales almost completely.

Yeah I don't buy that such a small increase in price can affect it that much. It's not like the potential new buyers would even know bout the price increase in the first place.

It makes DKCR look expensive in comparison to other games. For a newcomer to the console, they will be much more likely to pick up NSMB at £39.99 than DKCR at £43.99.

A small change can make a big difference to a consumer's perspective on price.

Ye, i would be a bit surprised if a £5 increase in one store chain (unless GAME is huge in UK, i dont live in the UK, so i dont know) would lead to such a drop.

The £5 price increase did knock the game into a new price range though, going from the £30 range to the £40 range. It might be some psychological effect to this, making the game look more expencive because it's in the £40 range. But i dont know how much effect this had though :)

Ok, i see, thanks :) But could this £5 increase be the only reason? Or could it be that now that the christmas season is over, maybe people have less interest in the game? Donkey Kong seems to be doing stronger in other countries though, so i'm not sure.

Wait...its more expensive than other games? I thought they increased to the "normal" price. Yeah I think that is the reason then.

So much for racing games not being relevant. GT5 on its way to 10 million...

Sony mentioned at CES that it's sold 5.5m copies. Somehow I doubt the game has sold a further ~4.5m in a matter of days. :lol

so GT5 ain't a bomba anymore i guess :D really nice to see the game holding strong. Not sure about those 5.5 million sony says, but it will be close enough which is a great result only a month and a half after being released. And hopefully it will have legs AND PD will coninue to support with updates

Not only that, but DKCR's fall off the charts happened immediately after Game raised the price. It's pretty obvious that it has had a profound effect (plus the game is still selling strong in all other EU markets)

I have a feeling that I know why they raised the price, but I'm just gonna keep it to myself...

Donkey Kong Country Returns has been low in stock/sold out for the last few weeks in a lot of stores. I worked in one of Game's busier stores in the UK over Christmas and we were lucky if we got more than half a dozen copies within the last fortnight. You'll see it back in the top 40 once Nintendo gets the finger out and ships more out to stores.

It was never going bomb. Those speaking of doom and gloom when the game failed to light up the charts simply weren't aware of or chose to ignore the fact the series has always been a relatively slow yet consistent burner.

I don't understand why there's doubt regarding the number given Kaz Hirai mentioned at CES that it has now sold 5.5m copies.

I know I put my wallet back in my pocket when I saw retailers selling DKCR @ £43.

I don't think supermarkets ever went that high, but the local Tesco didn't even have any copies last time I was in there.

And I have still never seen a copy of Wii Party.

I don't know what Nintendo Europe are up to these days. Layton seems to be the only release they haven't botched.

It's really just Nintendo UK, I think. Not releasing Inazuma underlines their lack of effort pretty well, too. :lol

well, some people kept saying that so i guess they will finally stop.
AS for believing PR stuff, i don't usually believe any, they try to show the nice part and keep the ugly hidden. I believe, however, that GT5 will reach thos 5.5 million sooner than later, and i am hoping aroun 8 million LTD at least.

Wii Party has been low in stock for close to a month now. The solus copies were the only ones kicking around at Christmas and even then they were few and far between. Art Academy has been a pain in the ass to get until recently as well. Seems Nintendo Europe shot themselves in the foot a bit with the low amount of top selling titles available at Christmas.

The Wii Party bundle has been discontinued in December, they probably wanted to clear stock of old Wii Remotes.

How many times does it have to be said that these companies are speaking about sold to retail unless they specifically say otherwise. Still a great number but it is shipped.
