Welcome back to the world where Kegare and Rumors rule: Sumaru City.

This is the domicile of the Crawling Chaos, and there will be blood.

All did not end well at the end of Innocent Sin.

For there to be peace, a great cost was levied... and in a last effort to gain back what was lost, memories were erased, and all began anew.

Yet... someone would not forget. And so, a paradox threatens to tear a fragile peace apart.

Soon, once more, rumors will be the force that divides Sumaru City between steady order and absolute chaos.

An up-and-coming reporter for the wildly popular teen magazine, 'Coolest'.
Lately she has been troubled with a sense of deja vu...

Maya's roommate; a boxer, fortune-telling specialist, and self-proclaimed fitness guru.

The one I want to kill is YOU.

A detective with the Sumaru City PD; left to choose between doing his job, and doing what is right.

In the tradition of the earlier Persona and SMT titles, demons can either be outright destroyed...

Or even reasoned with, for spell cards to make your Persona all they can be.

Those feeling confident due to Innocent Sin's relative ease should bear in mind that EP is far, far more challenging... but also more rewarding.

Saeko Smith: You’d know her better as Ms. Saeko, formerly a homeroom teacher at St. Hermelin High and later on a warm, caring educator at Seven Sisters High.

Principal Harding: Principal Hannya, another veteran of St. Hermelin. In Innocent Sin, he was the hated principal of Seven Sisters who used the Joker’s power to make the students love him, even if none of them understood why.

Tammy: Tamaki, who’s actually a nod to the original Shin Megami Tensei series: she was the heroine of SMT If…, and became a devil summoner to rid Karukozaka High of evil. Now, she works for fellow devil summoner Chief Todoroki at the Kuzunoha Detective Agency.

Tad: Tadashi, son of the owner of the Satomi Tadashi drugstore chain.

Mary: Maki Sonomura, the troubled heroine of Persona PSP, is now grown up and running Hiiragi Psychotherapy to help ease the minds of others who are psychologically tormented.
Sky Museum: Known as the Aerospace Museum in Innocent Sin PSP.

Ellen: Elly Kirishima in Persona PSP. She’s one of two guest stars from the original game who can briefly join your party in Eternal Punishment. The unnamed “Boy with Earring” who shows up in her route was the protagonist of that game.

Nate: Kei Nanjo, the other possible guest party member from Persona PSP. He’s the heir to the Nanjo Group megacorporation, which Persona fans with a sharp memory might know as having ties to Mitsuru Kirijo’s own business empire in Persona 3.

Yuki: Yukino Mayuzumi, another character you might know from Persona and Innocent Sin PSP. Once the leader of a girl gang at St. Hermelin, she grew up to be a professional photographer who works alongside Maya at Coolest.

Chris: Reiji Kido, sort of a hidden character in Persona PSP, will make a brief appearance in Elly’s path in Eternal Punishment.

Brad: Hidehiko “Brown” Uesugi’s routine is just as obnoxious as it was in Persona PSP, but now he’s famous for doing it on TV.

Guido: More properly known as Takahisa Kandori in Persona PSP, where he was the mastermind behind the dimensional warp that drew in the city of Mikage-cho. Though he died in the events of Persona PSP, Kandori casts a long shadow, and his influence will be felt in Sumaru City during the course of Eternal Punishment’s story.

Masquerade: Localized in Innocent Sin PSP as the “Masked Circle,” this was an innocuous child’s game that was twisted into something more sinister many years later.

Araya Shrine: Corrected to the Alaya Shrine in both earlier PSP games. “Alaya” is a Buddhist term for the uninfluenced stream of thought before it is transformed by self-knowledge and reflection.

Persona 2 will be available tomorrow on the US PSN for $9.99.

Although it has some changes, by and large, I still consider it a fantastic localization of one of the greatest RPGs ever, and I truly hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

I already know this, but I'm not sure I'll be too happy with Maya being a silent protagonist when I start playing.

Anyways, I've been waiting for this and I'm happy I'll finally be able to see the story to its conclusion. Guess I'll read up on whatever was added in the PSP version after I'm done.

This wasn't in this thread, but lots of people were saying you needed to play Innocent Sin first to really understand this one. Not the case. I played this a few years after Persona: Revelations and had absolutely no problem understanding the story. It's actually quiet interesting not knowing the full backstory since you get to piece it together.

I guess they really only did it for tradition's sake. Her character is way different then what I imagined once I actually got to play Innocent Sin.

Someone in the store update thread said it wasn't picked up by the content manager, but I have no first hand experience with it to confirm or not. Seems like a pretty awful PSP replacement if it can't even be played portably.

It might work if you buy it on PS3 and transfer it to Vita, but yeah. SCEA can be a bit slow about getting PSone Classics, and PSP games onto the Vita store, but in this case it's not even compatible with PSP?

If youre a die-hard Persona fan, theres a good chance you have every game in the seriesPersona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 3 Portable, and the recent Persona 4 Goldenplayable on PS Vita except one.

Ok, if you liked the social links and part time jobs and extra events of P4G, you should go for Persona 3 FES. This older game doesn't have social links or part time jobs or anything. But be careful of Persona 3 FES on PSN, it has some save glitch issues. Make many save file backups if you go for that one.

Absolutely and it has a good story to make your grinding/NPC-order-talking sufferable; however, at times it feels additive to Persona 2 Innocent Sin, which is the prequel.

Hmmm, after thinking about this, go with P3 FES because of Elizabeth, she's a lot of fun.

You have opened a massive can of worms here, but for what it's worth, here's my opinion:

Persona 4/Golden > Persona 3/FES/Portable > Persona 2 IS/EP (I haven't played Eternal Punishment yet, but I'm going to put it next to IS because it's widely regarded as its equal/direct continuation) > Persona

A lot of people would disagree with me, however, because many people prefer the older games to the newer ones, or prefer one variation of Persona 3 over another (example: Totobeni hates P3P and would say it's lower than the other versions of P3). But if you cut a clear divide between classic and new then it's generally (though not universally) agreed that:

Persona 4 > Persona 3
Persona 2 > Persona

Thanks for your information. I think I will go 2 first to get back to the classic JRPG style and then go back to 3 for the social links and all those interesting systems. Hopefully this doesn't spark a list war

Persona 2 Eternal Punishment PS1 > Persona 4 Golden > Persona 2 Innocent Sin PSP > Persona 4 Arena > Persona 1 PSP> Persona 3 Portable PSP

Every game in the series is good to great, and I will get heavy flak for P1 > P3
