So I got a beta invite this past Tuesday and I knew basically nothing about the game going in. I'm just so glad you don't buy gear and items in game, thats what turned me off of lol\dota\hon for some reason. Having a blast with this playing as the D3 Demon Hunter.

That's the whole point blizzard is doing with this game. Making it fun but also rewarding in effort for team fighting and team work. I still love dota 2 but this is a good distraction to play it.

Also got my Blizzcon mount and portrait!

Well its working , I can't stop playing. It's pulled me off of wow getting ready for wod and off d3 with its double xp weekend going. I might actually spend money on something in the gamestore during alpha if it gives a reward like HS did. :D

Pubs on Blackheart's Bay can be stroke inducing. It's like herding chickens.

We made so many mistakes the entire game, Illidan and Tyrael were ignoring team fights, storing too many coins, not turning in when there was great moments to turn in. My team "gave up" so many times, only for us to wipe their 3-person, game-ending push that brought us to 21% on the core. That left us with the golden opportunity to push back. We killed their core down from 70% while the cannonballs from their final, game-wining turn-in were still in the air.

This game is much better at generating close games and comebacks than DotA 1/2. Goddamn.

The replay system is still awful. So... slow... to... skip... around...

I wish there was a solo mode.... I hate meeting premades.

I have been really loving Tassadar and Chen lately. I always thought Tass was good but never played him a lot, going super offensive mage mode with him is a blast though.

I just came back to this last night, and I typically played Tassadar with the double psi storms prior to leaving about 2 months ago. I assume he's still as strong as any assassin, then? He was ridiculous at that point in time.

Can anyone give me a rundown on Chen? He looks interesting but no clue about his playstyle.

Game is still a lot of fun. Sucks I lost all my gold and max levels, but eh. It's alpha. Part of the fun is the grind for me I guess.

Tassadar is still beefy with that same build. He is often the first character banned in competitive matches.

For Chen, most people build him as a sustain character. With his brew, stuns, and his ult that separates him into three mini-chens he is ridiculously difficult to kill. Great in solo situations as well because his flying kick can gain a good amount of ground, root characters, etc.

I'm no chen expert, but he basically seems unkillable and can chase people down really well. You can easily distract someone or force them to overextend thinking they can kill you while someone else comes in and ganks them. Basically you HAVE to take the 'kick root' talent at level 4 or whenever it pops up, otherwise you're just kicking, snaring, breathing fire, and hitting D a lot to take virtually no damage and refill your brew. You can be like 10% hp and someone will come try to 1v1 you and you just sit there in D laughing at them. Storm Earth and Fire lets you chase even better or get away without a scratch (It's like the Odin in that you can pop it and basically get out of jail free).

Like I said, no expert, but he's SUPER frustrating for a lot of people to go up against which you can use to your advantage and try to bait mistakes.

Right now he is sadly little more then a super tank.

I kind of like the idea. I enjoyed his look so figured I'd ask. Thanks for the info guys.

I just unlocked all of Tassadar's abilities again...just like you said ChoklitCow. Still strong. Not surprised it's first banned. Is Malfurion still in a good spot? I had played some Malf after the Li Li nerf some time back due to the utility.

I have not played a game yet without a Zagara which is surprising. When I quit playing people were not very fond of her, but then again, maybe it's just a popular character.

She's the only specialist in the free rotation atm too

Well Chen is definately a strong hero. I just find him abit boring to play. Then again I am use to Brewmaster in Dota, so that might explain my dissapointment.

I unlocked Tyrande the other day and damn skill shots are so easy to hit in this game, everyone moves so slow. It's so OP when you hit like every stun.

I wish there was a solo mode.... I hate meeting premades.

The matchmaking system is supposed to take this into account (a team full of solos only vs another team full of solos, a team of a group of 2 and a group of 3 only vs another team of 2 and 3, etc). The problem is that currently there is a pretty small player base to matchmake with, and the system is designed to relax some of its criteria because of this.

As the game moves into open beta, you shouldn't be put up against full premades as a pub anymore.

This will be pretty great once it's in.

I hate how un-incentivized my first game (or two, or sometimes three) is each time I log in. As someone who was maxed out prior to the artifact debacle and did not play after it until now, all of my friends list was wiped.

So basically I get 50% less experience until I glom onto someone else or someone gloms onto me. I don't know that there's anything to be done about it, as it would obviously sort itself out after I've played for a week or two (and shouldn't be an issue at all in open beta to live), but it is annoying I'll admit.

Man I tore face with Stitches today. Such a fun offensive tank.

In other news Li Li is immortal. We had two heroes chasing her in the caves for a minute without doing any damage to her. Unbelieaveble.

As she takes damage she gets faster and her blinding wind makes your basic attacks miss, so she can be really hard to chase down.

I'm kind of confounded why she has the third worst win rate right now since she can usually keep a team going very well, but maybe most people who play her try a damage build or something.

Yeah, I suspect Li Li is going to be in the "intentionally tuned to be middle-of-the-pack" when all is said and done, because she's just completely braindead to play. Good for beginners or younger players, but not something you really want in higher-level-play.

She was OP at first and got the "Nerf until we figure out how to fix her" treatment, right? Someone on Reddit pointed out they're probably pushing "problem" heroes like Li Li and ETC into the free rotation so they can get more data and feedback on them.

Yeah, I just remembered they nerfed her biggest strength by removing the mana heal off the healing potion.

A new beta wave must've gone out as it just appeared in my battle.net launcher. I haven't received an email about it, so check your launcher in case you got added. Installing now

I just discover E.T.C. He's in the rotation and he's so fun to play. I'll buy it once the rotation changes, he's quite cheap (2K G).

Oh, and he shouts famous quotes from Spanish rock songs lol Nice detail there, Blizzard.

Li Li was the first hero I picked up back when I started in Alpha a while ago. I typically play MMOs and heal in them, so she seemed like a good start and it turned out she was extremely OP in regular play at the time. The nerfs did hurt, but as I got deeper into it and maxed her out and ran with better players...it's kind of like kirblar said, people knew how to shut her down at that level.

I think one of the biggest changes for her in the nerf phase was allowing the jugs to be interrupted. It was not interruptable for a while which was pretty ridiculous.

I got one too. Never played any MOBA so I went through the tutorial, seems like something I could get into but it'll be a while before I get any real proficiency at it.

I also just got an alpha invite. Not exactly looking forward to getting smacked around thanks to coming in so late, but I've enjoyed the tutorlal/practice match stuff so far.

i have been playing the alpha hardcore for a bit for the last few weeks and then I happen to see this thread and cant help but laugh at the title, just cause Azmadon is really fucking good in this game and some of my friends and I think that he may just be OP.

so perfect thread title.

Im loving this so far just cause the learning curve is so much easier compared to other mobas due to no items. So if you played many mobas like myself, its easy to get a hang of this game. biggest difference is the emphasis on minions and objectives.

my problem with playing a new moba is knowing there is a daunting learning curve ahead, but this one is fairly easy to pick up if you have experience with mobas.

Im hoping for a custom mode where there are no minions and no objectives. just straight up laning and hero vs hero, it would be interesting even tho the game is balanced towards that. Id like to try it to see what it feels like.

Consensus seems to be that he's really good in solo queue, but fine in 5v5.

I am on one hell of a losing streak. Do they have anything to balance things out in this game?

In the future with more people playing and a ranked system it will be better. Aka you will be matched with people of equal suck or high level play.

Right now small pool of players, and you are matched with anyone basically. So perhaps you are playing with bad people on your team, or you aren't as good as the people you are matched against.

Currently I find it pretty easy to win games when I play with friends. Premade are insane, huge advantage over those who don't know what they are doing.

Starcraft basically has a 50% win average in the long run for all skill levels and that game is much harder to play. Expect same from heroes.

The biggest thing is her aoe heal can be completely interrupted with a stun and it completely resets the timer. Other healers at least get a 10s cd or it doesn't stop healing. The reason she isn't picked competitively is because she has no valid cc because her blind is so random as is her heal. Need to heal your assassin because they are getting picked off? Too bad, tank heal.

For solo queue, she is still quite good. It just happens that in an organized 5v5 she will be shut out or can RNG you to death.

This just in; Arthas is broke.

or I'm just doing exceptionally well with him

He's one of the best tanks and most picked tank because of his survivability and stuns.

Tell me about it. Randoms never know when to retreat from a fight.

Today I started playing Nazeebo and while at low levels I can't do a lot with him, once he levels up he's pretty powerful. I basically trap an enemy with W and then with Q and E they usually die.

I think I'm loving all the characters I've played (Valla, Raynor, ETC, Nazeebo), maybe with the exception of Arthas. I have to play more as him.

Tenki

Member
Arthas is good but definitely doesn't have a "pick up and play" style- he has a learning curve.

That's probably the issue, yeah. I'm a moba noob, so I'm taking my time.

Other problem is that the characters are so freaking expensive :( I've got around 12k gold and once they're out of the rotation I can't play them anymore, as I can't buy all of them.

I'm reserving my gold until Blizzcon, just in case they adjust the prices or release new cool heroes.

ok, so apparently I have this game. How much do you have to play to get to level 20 before 18th?

It's curiously difficult to find information on how much XP is required per level up in this game. The best I could do is this forum post that tallies it up to level 10. If we reasonably assume that each level from 10 to 20 will need at least 4.75 million XP, the total requirement is north of 50 million XP.

From my anecdotal experience, you get between 50-100k XP per game depending on it's length. It usually comes in at 70-80k. There's a 50k bonus if you win the game as well. Assuming you win half your games, it roughly adds up to 100k per match.

If you play solo, you'd need to get 50 million XP @ 100k per match so that's over 500 games.
If you play with a friend, you get a 50% XP bonus which give you 150k XP per game meaning you'd play over 300 games.
Best case scenario: if you win every one of your games and you play them all with a friend, you'll get about 200k XP per game so you'd only need to win 250 matches.

Daily quests give you up to 100k XP per day so if you did those every day until the 18th you'd reduce the requirement by another 1.5 million XP or so.

Unless I'm missing some source of XP or my mathematics is horribly wrong, you're looking at hundreds of games played to reach level 20.
