Xbox One Titanfall Special Edition Bundle announced. $499 at select retailers

What's best for you is not owning the next WiiU type failure. I'm sorry you feel like Microsoft owes you $60, but that seems like very short sighted behavior. If you bought a $500 console that's being perceived as a failure, what you should want is for whoever manufactures that console be as reflexive and competitively aggressive as possible.

I never said Microsoft owes me $60. Nor do I feel that they do.

I also don't need your advice on what I should want. Thanks though.

Um, you realize you just contradicted yourself right?

I was just saying that regardless of how odd their moves may seem right now, the fact is that the console is selling well.

Maybe not as good as the competition, but still pretty well.

It's not like this is a WiiU scenario.

Microsoft clearly isn't satisfied with that, they want 1st place.

This is why competition is good for all of us.

I don't think MS has yet realized the public just doesn't want to spend $500 on a living room device. They have to go to $449 or below just to get away from the stigma of the price tag. The PS4 is STILL cheaper, with your choice of game.

Funny how no one complained about being shafted with the $50 Target deal last week.

Microsoft bankrolls those kinds of deals too.

Perception is a weird thing.

No. I want what is best for me. Because as a consumer, that's who I care about.

If I knew in December that there would be a titanfall pack in I would not have bought the xb1 until that came out. But my thinking was "there is no way that they would give away what is going to be one of the biggest sellers of the year on the platform" and "It's way too early, they wouldn't do that to early adopters, that would be really shitty."

Guess what, I was wrong. And I think it's shitty. And whether I'm a giant whiny baby or completely justified it doesn't really matter. What matters is that MS now has a pissed off customer who buys a lot of stuff. They better hope they sell more consoles than the amount of pissed off customers they create.
Serious question, don't you have ms sources who could have told you about this?

Imagine the new iPhone cutting it's price 3 months after release or new ipad? These are devices that are expected to maintain their price and value for at least 8-12 months after release. It does make customers angry and hurt brand image as well as customer loyalty. That's just common sense.

Apple cut the price of the original iPhone 3 months after launch by $100.

They gave every early adopter a $100 rebate good towards the purchase of any Apple product. I remember putting two of those rebates together to finance my 160GB iPod.

Yea maybe not free Titanfall but some sort of bundle is what i expected.

Sure, at a higher pricepoint. Just like all the other bundles (including PS4 bundles).

Great i bought mine 2 weeks ago, should have waited.

It's terrible I feel the same way and had mine at launch.

Then again, the fault is mine. Only one game I wanted for it (DR3) and my forza's still sealed.

I knew I should have waited but I just had to have both consoles at launch.

Its a gift and a curse. Its better value for those that havent got the console yet. I doubt early adopters will be that pissed since they know things like this should be expected. If anything MS is getting better and reacting quick,of course i will be keeping an eye on them throughout the year to see if that continues.

Why do people keep saying this? It is not true. Name one console that had a free pack in of a hot game 3 months after launch. Knack in Japan is regional and knack is hardly a $60 game AND is not hot and has been out for 3 months regionally.

Exactly my point. Apple understands customer loyalty. MS obviously does not. They wait until there is an uproar then tries to put out a burning building.

Better desperate and making a move than stupid and sticking to your guns.

Oh totally, I am more interested though in the information MS has at hand. How bad can it be if they are making a price cut in the UK and giving away a title that cost them millions of dollars to secure as an exclusive in the first place?

If we look up the previous year, MS has been quite reactive to bad news.

When the news of CoD being 720p on Xbox One and being 1080p on PS4 (I remember that doddcast, shit was crazy and fun!) stuff blow out of proportion and MS days latter came with the news that they secured Titan Fall as a console exclusive on MS-platforms.

And before that after E3 when the preorder numbers were terrible, they started to back off on all the things they though gamers didn't want (funny that they though we were going to be ok with them in the first place, I think it shows how detached MS was from the core consumer)

It is arguable that last month was a controlled leak (or perhaps not), but now we are at almost March, I am pretty sure MS got some earlier NPD numbers for February and decided to go bananas with this news.

I guess the bigger winners in all this xbox debacle has been EA that secure a fat paycheck from MS from the projected sales on PS4 (though after the NPDs and the sales in the UK, I am pretty sure the numbers of projected PS4 they used to calculate how much money MS was going to pay them was way below the mark) and now they are getting even more money before the game is released.

At least MS isn't sitting around with a pile of cash and watch its system die.

The XB1. FiFA 14 or Forza 5 was available at launch for free for EU pre-orders.

You were wrong and it is shitty but there is no one to blame but yourself. You should be pissed at yourself than MS because they didn't do anything. These are the cons of being an early adopter. You get the worst/smallest selection of games, you get the least mature hardware with kinks that may or may not be worked out, you get an early version of an OS that will improve in time, everything is full priced, etc.

You knew what you were buying and MS held their end of the bargain. The market is completely unpredictable. No one knows how well these consoles would be received. The lesson learned here if you're really pissed off is too wait next time.

It's nice to include a brand-new big name title with the console but the Xbox One is a horrible value proposition as long as it's more expensive than the PS4 and the concerns about the DRM are not extinguished.

I am sort of surprised at the number of users in this forum that appear disappointed as an early adopter by this bundle.

If you were told nearly 3 months ago you could pay $500 for the Xbox One and get to play it for almost 4 months, or wait 4 months and pay $500 for the Xbox One and Titanfall, would you really wait nearly 4 months to save the $60 and not get to play the system?

In my opinion, the $60 you save buying this bundle is a pretty small price to pay to get to own and play the Xbox One, in your own home, for 3-4 months before Titanfall releases. Now I am going to sound like one of those TV Commercials to help starving children around the world. For just .55 cents a day (saved each day), starting on Xbox One launch day, you would have saved enough money to buy Titanfall at launch. I think that is a pretty fair price, per day, to play the Xbox One for 4 months.

Now this is just my opinion, and nobody has to agree with it, but that is the way I feel. Now obviously my little post only works for people that bought the system on launch day. If you just picked up an Xbox One within the past few weeks, then yes, I would be disappointed.

No your wrong there's no ways around it, This is Microsoft's screw up and they should be doing something for people that bought there console at launch. If anything this isn't going to help preception. Man the people defending Microsoft in this thread are just Insane.

Yes I would have held off since there was no game that was worth buying for. I bought it because I assumed it would be at least a year with no discount or bundle.
I was wrong but that doesn't make it any less fault of Microsoft to do something for early adopters.

I already said i did not expect a free pack but some kind of titanfall bundle. Although i am not surprised they are doing this either since they are probably not happy with the sales after launch.

But what if you bought one a month ago? That's what I did.

I have almost zero interest in purchasing Titanfall. If it was free I'd gladly play it. I just feel like I lost out on a value proposition. Yeah I'm glad I have my Bone already and I'm enjoying it enough. It just stings a bit. Not as bad as the PS3 price drop, not as bad as the 3DS price drop, but it still stings.

I agree I was expecting Titanfall along with a year of live for $550 or something similar to that.

If Microsoft was smart they would do something for those who bought the system in these first couple of months. I would guess they'll eventually give in and do something but that's still lives a bad taste in their mouth when they should have done it originally. Just give people Killer Instinct premium for free. Doesn't cost them anything and I doubt that game is bringing in that much revenue.

Someone mentioned earlier Apple did something similar with the original iPhone. It went from $599 to $399. Apple gave everyone who bought one at the higher price $100 store credit. They didn't have to do that but that's called taking care of the customer.

I don't understand why people are upset? Things drop in prices all the time, video games especially. This is even a price drop, just a pack in. Hell the three people I know that bought X1s for the titanfall beta and even they're not THAT upset.

Yes, you made that assumption. And it was a foolish one at that. Look at the last three major console/handheld releases. What happened within their first year on the market? How did Vita owners feel when Amazon was selling $180 Vita bundles with Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, PS All-Stars? Or when Wii U launch owners had Zelda and NSMB U bundles at a cheaper price. They were just as foolish believing there would be no discount or bundle within the first year.

It would be nice for MS to do what Nintendo did with the 3DS. But that's all it is. Nice. They don't and shouldn't have to do anything. You got to experience next gen for the last 3 months while potential consumers of the new Titanfall bundle didn't. That is one of the benefits(and the only benefit IMO) of being an early adopter.

Serious question, don't you have ms sources who could have told you about this?

I got a message last night "I had no idea this bundle was happening. It came out of nowhere."

Clearly they weren't planning it in december. And then January they had pretty shit sales but there was still nothing happening. Now it's happening. Conjecture here, but it has to be based off of their internal sales data.

But no, when i got my xb1 in december, no one knew there was going to be a TF bundle for the same price as the console. There was talk of the TF xb1 (that ntkrnl showed the mockup for) but that was going to cost $550... saving people $10, and for me personally i'm not into custom consoles like that. I'm into minimalism.

I think it is a mix of being to close of the launch date (is going to be 3 months in a few days in USA/EU) and having a bundle that doesn't save you $10 (like must bundles, for example the PS4-Battlefield bundle) but it gives you away a DD copy of the game. People that bought an xbox one at launch because they wanted to play Titanfall and then they saw that they could have saved money if they waited 3 months are meant to be piss off. And in the UK the situation is even worse with the price cut.

When the 3DS got a price cut, Nintendo did the ambassador program to down play the blow on early adopters.

I am not saying that xbone early adopters can/should be piss off or that they are justified, but I do get from where they are coming when they say that it is a shitty moment for them.

The fact that I'm intending to buy Titanfall anyway is a strong motivator toward considering this bundle, but then I remember that the game isn't even 1080p. After playing the PC beta in 1440p at a rock solid 60fps everywhere and everything turned all the way up, I don't think I could stand to lose 75% of the resolution that way. I'll get an Xbox One someday, but it will take a general price drop instead of a bundled game to get me to make the leap.

However, for anyone on the fence about Titanfall who doesn't already have a gaming PC of any recent vintage, this is probably as good a deal as you'll get (at least for the next few months).

and may I ask why you're upset at this? If you didn't feel the Xbox One was worth the $500 price in December, why did you buy it instead of waiting out for a bundle or an announcement? You NEVER early adopt a product unless your certain the product is worth the value for you upon purchase.

In return for you not getting Titanfall for free, think of it this way, you got to use the Xbox One 4 months before Titanfall buyers.

I am annoyed, but it isn't the end of the world.
Would I have waited 3-4 months to get Titanfall early? Maybe.

As an early adopter I assume a risk. There will always be sales, redesigns, pack-ins and price cuts. But I didn't expect anything significant until around November/December.

I always assumed there would be a Halo console this fall holiday, and that would be when things get interesting. This was sooner than I expected.

Things drop in price all the time. So you bought the console before it went on sale? Whoopty-fucking-doo. Big deal. I bought the system at launch and don't feel the need to be enraged about any of this. Even if I bought the damn thing yesterday, I would just chalk it up as bad timing on my part and move on. Oh well...

Makes sense to me. In fact it's the only scenario that makes sense to me, but then I don't have inside information.

I understand that people are upset, but damn, some people honestly think they should be given Titanfall for free or heavily discounted? Geeze, when you're an early adopter, you have to accept that there could be price drops or bundles shortly after. Sure, 3 months is quick for a bundle, but would it have really made a difference if it was 4 or 5 or 6 months? The people that just bought the system would still be upset. I bought a Wii U at launch, I missed out on the cool bundles and the price drops that followed, but it's fine because that's the risk you are taking to get your console early.

The beta already looks better then the alpha.

I think it's actually Microsoft continues to screw up the thread. This is nothing about being entitled and there's many examples of companies dropping prices but also not alienating the customers that supported their consoles at launch. They are absolutely allowed to drop the price but I'm allowed to be pissed off regarding this and wish they would do something for early adopters. I would have waited the 4 months for this bundle.

A not insignificant portion of the people who bought on or surrounding launch also bought a PS4, have a Wii U, a PC, a 3DS, a Vita, etc... I think you under estimate how many early adopters are the same group of super cores who buy pretty much every major gaming device day one. So no, it wouldn't have been a big deal for many of those people to wait 3 months for a TF bundle. There was certainly no great abundance of gotta play Xbone content and no shortage of non-Xbone content. You might have a point for people that have ONLY owned an Xbone this whole time, but I'm doubtful that even describes the majority. You're also forgetting those that received units for Christmas, which hasn't even been 2 months. I'm personally not aware of any major console/portable in history that has announced a price drop or packed in a tent pole system seller within 2 or 3 months. This is unprecedented in NA.
