Xbox inviting Xbox Members to test out the March Update (don't beg for invites)

I wonder if there is a legitimate reason or if Microsoft is just pushing their battery pack (which is quite good this time around).

Yeah the battery pack is amazing actually. I am amazed at the battery length on the controller actually. I also plug it into a wall adapter to charge and it recharges super quick

It would be good if Microsoft put a proper procedure out for this along with a way verifying if your controller is updated. save any confusion.

If you try to update it a second time, you are given a notification that the controller has already been updated. I can confirm this because I tried this too. I'm such a guinea pig today.

If you ask me it is very noticeable. Things seem to be way snappier. Pushing the menu button seems almost instantaneous. Apps load much faster too.

Cool, thanks for the reply as there are times the OS would lag and things would slow down. Great to hear this has been addressed on this update.

By far my favorite part of the update. Between this and my chat adapter having been shipped, I'll actually have functioning XP500's again. It was enough to feel bitter for a while there.

Thank god! Now I can play late at night without being afraid of waking up my gf.

March now seems so far away...

If anyone has an invite left: MrGreen

Thanks!

You always could play at night without issues. Just not full surround. Wasn't it digital? Cause I have XP510's and would use em at night and swore there was some sort of surround going on. Unless I'm just thinking I am.... Could possibly be it

That's good to know I will try this tonight which will also confirm if the controllers got updated over the air as they have never been connected to the xbox one via USB.

The "over the air" update is for the analogs. That's just a quick software fix. The firmware update is for the headset adapter and requires a micro-usb cable.

Here is a bit of the changes from Gearnuke site:

  • You can update controller through USB
  • You now have an option under Kinect that says ” Turn hand cursor off while watching video
  • Tutorials about gestures and voice commands are in the settings menu
  • A ” show all other notifications” option under NOTIFICATIONS (hopefully this means we will be able to see if friends come online)
  • Everything just seems FASTER!
  • OPTICAL and HDMI audio settings have an option for “BITSTREAM OUT” (no idea what it is. IIT gives you an option between DTS Digital Surround and Dolby DigitalFriends APP is much improved. Can see online friends first, recent players and a FAVORITES option.
  • “XBOX, BROADCAST” for TWITCH is in but not turned on yet. If you say it, it only opens the Twitch app but no broadcast yet.

Not exactly packed with new features, but a solid update, specially this close to launch.

If they keep that pace up in a full year we should see tons of new stuff!

Got you.....with the batteries out and system rebooted and with controllers connected via USB.

They like to make it easy!

Yes you could but only in stereo, unless your XP510's support DTS surround, which I highly doubt.

If you like using XP510's for Stereo, be my guest. I'd pretty much label that unusable, lol.

No but there was an option in the settings to turn on virtual surround sound. I think I did that. Good to see it's fully supported now though. Love me some XP's

XP510's could only achieve Stereo pre-update, no matter what you had checked. The Surround Sound (Beta) option did not change a thing.

Man I am hyped for this update -- suck didn't get an invite but oh well. It's nice to read that MS is killing it on the software side.

I mean, when do we draw the line? I'd be lying if I didn't say I was excited, but for $500 basic features as such shouldn't have been a four month wait. I can't really call that 'killing it'. I am happy to see it fixed though, for sure.

Standards are to high ;)

Maybe the indicator is calibrated for the official battery or other rechargeable discharge differently?

I know you're just kidding, but for stereo standards I'd just use a $10 stereo headset. The bigger question would be why you invested in XP510's if stereo is your main goal, lol. Either way, we're XP brothers so nothing but love. Thank goodness this update is finally here, we all deserve what we paid for on the sound front.

I agree somewhat, especially with party chat, but MS is making changes and adding features very quickly, so I think they should at least be commended for that.

anyone notice how long has it taken people who have been referred to get a message? I was referred about 12 hours ago.

thx

update looks very comprehensive, very impressed with the new and refined, stability adding features

I had them for the 360 before the x1 even came out and the rechargeable battery/Bluetooth option is amazing. So I was using them for full surround on 360.

Yeah luckily I got them in an auction so didn't pay to much for em but I am starting to get annoyed with how I can't use em as a mic. Chat adapter should fix that eh?

Just two things needed now:

1- Improve Game Installs either by disabling game updates when installing or/and copying PS4 partial installing method.

2- External storage support.

They really fell behind and are picking it back up slowly. I give credit where credit is due.

Yeah, I've had them since release as well, minus the auction bit (good buy for you). I simply can not play Halo without them at this point. I'll skip the stories and just say it's a night and day difference from a stereo set.

And yes the chat adapter will fix that. You'll be tethered unlike the 360, but it'll all be there. On the positive side the headset lasts much longer with Bluetooth turned off, have noticed this on my PS4 when tethered. I pre-ordered the adapter from Microsoft Store and it shipped yesterday.

For me it is media, media, media.

1. Local codec support for high profile h264 in multiple containers (i.e. mkv)
2. Same for common audio formats (not sure what is already supported, no list like 360 has)
3. Subtitle support from .Srt to .ASS!

Future option 4. 4K output support for video and low demand indie games! ;)

It looks like Plex might never be ported (dev has already indicated no due to closed ecosystem) so this is really important. Using voice commands for all types of media from local to streaming, to dvd and bluray playback would make this machine worth the asking price for this alone as it allows easy and quick use for expert and novice alike.

I'm just excited to see where they keep going. Remember the 360?

Started with this

Reading the Preview forums, I learned that rechargeable batteries aren't recommended. Only official or regular AA. Odd.

Probably just down to the calibration on the battery meter. The system reads the voltage the batteries are supplying to determine how much charge they have remaining (all batteries tend to produce lower voltages as they discharge), and the voltage/charge remaining curves for rechargeables are very different to those of alkaline batteries:

Rechargeables will still work fine to power the controller, but the meter won't be much help is estimating how long you've got left.

I'm okay with tethered. I actually tethered them for a bit before I sold my x32's. I found people could hear me more clearly. And yes I do notice the battery life is better without it.

I should order one now. Thanks for the reminder.

3.1 - And that they be as open as they are with app store on other platforms.

4 - Cortana and a handful of more context aware voice commands.

A Google Play esque app store scares me. There is just too much shit to sift through to find anything good.

We'll see Cortana become a major part of the Xbox One, just not for a year or 2. They are rolling it out to Windows Phone first and it sounds ok, but given a year or so of interaction with users and more development focused on Windows 8.1+ and Xbox One, it could be something special.
