Toukiden: The Age of Demons |OT| "very f*ckable." -@tecmokoeieurope

Question:

The only weapons that require the character item (that special item you get from getting soulmate status or doing all their quests or whatever it is) are the characters weapons and the Oni series (ex. oni slicer, oni knives, oni busters etc) specifically the true oni weapon the one after Mk 3. That's a total of 12 different weapons, 2 for each type, and 1 for each character. Are there any more? Just want to make sure these are the only ones that require that item because if there is then you really oughta be careful as to which you spend it on.

I don't think there are any other, otherwise the weapon trophy will be missable.

I assumed so. Just wanted to make sure. Whenever those "once in a lifetime" items show up I always try to be extra careful. It'd suck if you accidentally sold it or wasted it somehow while crafting.

All I have left for weapons is some rank 8 gauntlets and the mitama forged weapons, and I haven't seen anything else that required the special items from the NPC, so I would assume they aren't used for multiple weapons.

Only weapons that used unique items were those two, replica and Oni series. There are 10 NPC items and 10 weapons, so there's nothing missable and you can make them all.

Anyone knows how is trophy for activating combo boosts awarded ?

Since combo boost is activated when having armor set or combination of mitamas - does it count each combination only once ?

Or is it counted every time when we change armors/mitamas ?

Been playing with and helping randoms these last few nights, going as low as phase 4 or 5 and helping each person getting through phases.

It seems like the usual MP folks for Toukiden in GAF have moved on I see. Well, I suppose it's only natural, especially with behemoths like Dark Souls II looming around.

Recently I just get to play one or two missions per day, so I don't bother lfg here since it'd be a super-short session. Also, timezones :p

But I won't stop until I get that nifty heaven (or it's superior variation) armor.

Don't have acess to the demo currently, but is Toukiden more like Soul Sacrifice or Monster Hunter? Just wondering because while I like Soul Sacrifice (mainly since it's more fast paced) i'm not a big fan of MH since it's the polar opposite with it being very slow and so much crafting and the like.

It's more a Monster Hunter than Soul Sacrifice by the way you fight. But the game certainly much faster paced and more focused on directly combating the bosses themselves.

It's more like MH.

With less micro management stuff (For better or for worse) and a little bit faster paced.

SS isn't really part of the hunting genre imo, it's so different.

Hmmmmm. thanks for the heads up you two.
Looks like i'll really need to play the demo before jumping into this one.

I guess tis a shame, but could also be good cause my mid level character is still struggling. I am indeed playing less these days, but I do not see myself giving this up anytime soon. Just planning online MP with gaffers is a bit harder though.

Yep, only once, so you'll need 100 of them. There's a list here.

Were these extra missions also paid DLC in Japan? I mean, sure, it's only a dollar for each one, but it kind of sucks that what essentially amounts to a handful of weapons has to be paid for.

The 99c mission packs are 100 yen in Japan. They were free for a time before going paid, though.

Edit: The future mission packs also followed that. They were free at first and later made premium. Would be nice if the entry period was offered here, too =/

Bought the dlc with the bow recipe. It's a rank 4, upgradeable to a rank 6.

The wounded bladewing seemed to attack more often. Still hit like a truck. Died before I could break both his wings (11* mission, 30min limit, guess he wasn't made to last long).

Second mission, the small oni indeed do more damage - 4~5 hits from the bats and I was dead. Then the warden shows up after the second wave, and more waves come while you're fighting the warden. So much shit trying to attack me. Warden died quickly as well.

Even at 1 buck, I'm not sure on what's the point of these DLC. The new missions have some challenge, but they're no hard. And those new weapons... Those DLC would be of more use at launch.

Hmm anyone got all weapons trophy? Do you have to keep all weapons or is it enough if you had it at one point of time ?

Toukiden probably didn't sell that great in west so they probably can't afford it.

Craft/buy a weapon once and you're set, you don't need to keep it. There's even a checkbox showing if you've ever had it.

Strange dlc. Separate out the weapons? I find that really odd. The missions aren't anything special. What's the point of these dlc?

To make some extra money? At the end of the day, the DLC is there to add some bonus missions with extra weapons to obtain. It would make a lot more sense if it was free DLC, but as it is, there's really no reason to pay $3 for an extra set of weapons.

If this was how they did it with us, as well, then it would make a lot more sense.

damn, this thread is dead. anyway, i just lost progress cause my battery died :(

and it's good to see they added dlc but kept the -not all players are ready- bug intact. priorities.

indeed. but i was alone with pyrogrinder and nagi who kept dying every 15 sec. my stuff isn't good enough and i wasn't preparted. it took too long to recover, so i just canceled.

How do you increase your friendship with people like Kikka or Yamato as i'm nearly finished with single player and they are nowhere near soulmate?

In the case of Yamato, you're going to have to bathe with him in order to max friendship. For Kikka, you should be able to get maxed with only the relevant quests. She was one of the first NPCs I had maxed out friendship with.

yea, Kikka was the first for me. i just talked to npcs every round and her quests were the easiest. Still missing Yamato and Tits doesn't want to bathe with me.

I always bathe with Shikimi and I'm kinda pissed off earlier because her bonus is shitty. Thank goodness she still want to bathe with me after she gave Greed as bonus skill. Its Ooka that hates me :(
128 missions and I only bathe with her Once.

Wait, does bathing raises affinities too?

Anyways, just gotten Amaterasu, so the path of getting all the bows are now blown open to me.

Just need to secure more than a million Haku, give or take... :p :(

Are there still lots of people playing this online? I'm hovering over the buy button, but not sure if I should wait for Ragnarok Ace. I did enjoy the Tokiden demo a lot but want this mostly for multiplayer.

Not a lot, no. If you find a dozen lobbies up (with or without password), it's a busy day.

I blame the AI, it's competent enough so you never feel you need to go multi.

This is actually true. The AI is too competent for their own good (except for Fugaku-late phase, fuck that guy) that you should be able to pass any mission easily. Then, should they dumbed down the AI? No I think, there are another alternatives to make the game more multiplayer incentive. One solution I can think off after farming Abyssal Fiend is that t. hey should make the missions more varied in term of objectives. I found that the AI is horrible at dissecting limbs apart and mostly will use their Destroyer on already dissected limbs. This is particularly annoying when fought against Abyssal Fiend that have permanent Rage mode when it health down to half. Most of the time I couldn't dissect all parts no matter how I try to backed down during its normal Rage mode. So I think, having a mission where the objective is to cut out all the onis parts. Harder mission should have the demon more constantly down to rage mode and when their health down to half, (maybe some) of their limb will grow back. Of course you can use weaker weapon and have your mitamas focused on filling the weapon gauge, but this one could be mitigated by making the onis attack even more powerful on this particular mission.

There should be other thing that could make the game more multiplayer incentive, especially considering there are DCT, SPC, DEF, and HLG style. But one of the most crucial is varied mission objective, and revolved around dissecting part at that.

I don't buy hunting games without at least passable AI companions. I need vita games to be playable during commute where i don't have internet access.

Thanks for the replies yall. I think i'll wait for a price cut. I still want it, but just not $40 want it. Cheers.

Well, I heard the game already have price cut somwhere in the states or UK retail stores. You shouldn't expect digital discount though since it's Tecmo-Koei we talking about here.

It was one shop in UK. Everyone else is still running with initial pricing.

And so far nothing matched 22,50 pounds pre-order deal on Zavvi.

Do i need to do all the missions in each chapter or i can do only specific ones to jump to the next chapter?
Usually only key missions but sometimes you need to do some regular missions as well. My general rule of thumb is to do any key missions (Red names) and if new missions/chapter doesn't unlock then I do the regular missions starting from the bottom up until they do.
