OXM New Dragon Age Inquisition preview [No DLC character, 40 different endings]

That's alot of shades of...

40 different colors?

That's a lot of different colored rays.
Edit: god dammit

Pick your colors guys. This time Bioware is so kind to give us more options rather than only blue, red and green.

So many col-

Never mind.

Woow

Much colours

Dammit. I had to stop quoting.
Bioware said they wouldn't be ABC endings in ME and looked what happened. Not into the series, but look forward to the endings drama.

I'm interested in seeing how the new armor adaptation works. It was cool and kind of dumb at the same time in DAO when you had your whole crew decked out in the same gear. I think it will be better now that they'll all have the same overall style armor but with personal touches and variations to make them actually unique from one another.

Yep. No way that's not bullshit.

Feel the same way, but since the last fiasco I'm hoping they'll at least make it a priority so that "40 endings" pre-release hyperbole can be pared down to something like "3 endings", which would be great if they're actually distinct.

Still really excited for this game. I don't know why but I am.

I wish that part with 40 different endings, should have not been mentioned.

That way..players would have appreciated 'Dragon Age Inquisition' a bit more, if they didn't know there were 40 different endings before hand.

I'm going to assume they don't actually mean 40 different end-game endings but rather 40 different resolutions to key plot points, which is part of what I assume they meant in ME3 as well (as in the endings included the possible resolutions to the Krogan issue and the Geth-Quarian quandary). I'm going to guess that the actual end-game 'endings' will be more like 4-5 tops, which the other resolutions impacting them in minor but possibly significant ways. So things in Origins like 'who is ruler of Ferelden?' and 'Who is king of Orzammar?'

I'm guessing fewer than 40 resolutions, but 40 different combinations of endings. Which probably means only 8 or so different pieces, but with the ability to be recombined in 40 different combinations.

I'm guessing 4 radically different endings, and 10 variations of each of those, or something like this.

That would be great.

This number of endings almost guarantees they will all be shitty watered down "LOOK AT DA PPL U SAVED" or "LOOK AT DA SHIT U DESTROYED" montages. I will never understand a game that attempts this "choose your own adventure" way of story telling. They don't work well in books and they don't work well in games. Videogames can barely give us one goddamn good story that we give a shit about, so why attempt 40 that will surely be forgotten the day after you finish the game?

How Origins done the ending was how i wanted ME3 to do theirs, tying up the loose threads with an epilogue of what happened to everyone.

BioWare really crushed me with DA2 but everything i'm hearing about this game sounds very good.

I kinda like it. Now When I get good armor anyone can wear it can still look like themselves!

Yeah, I really like it too. Nothing more annoying than an armour set that looks absolutely ridiculous on a character. Now that BW are implementing this in Inquisition I ask myself why nobody thought of it sooner.

"Bioware is promising a staggering 40 possible endings for the game, dependent not only on choices made in character generation but by actions taken throughout the storyline. [Mark] Darrah stresses, however, that the endings will all be meaningfully different from one another. You won't find 40 endings with only slight degrees of variation between them."

Hmm seems like I heard that BS some where before...... Oh where was that now...

I'm trying to think of a game where that happened, and can't think of any. Even old Bioware games didn't. Innovation!

Because it requires a hell of a lot of asset generation. It means for every piece of armor, you will need up to 13 different variations (9 companions + male/female/dwarf/Qunari variations for the player). So if there are 10 different armor sets, it's the equivalent of making 100+ armor sets for DA:O.

But that should have been much easier to implement in older games, because nowadays it's more complex. Unless they found a way to automate the process to a certain degree.

I have a feeling there will be a Male base and Female base armor for each set which then they then swap in/swap out various parts to customize them for each companion/race, rather than creating truly custom variants of each armor.

It's just not feasible to maintain the same number of armor sets that were in DAO/DA2 while also giving each person their own fully custom armor variants without implementing some kind of system to quickly customize them.

Or if they cut down the number of different armors, visually, per character. That would be my bet.

I'm so relieved to hear there are no DLC characters. I detested Day 1 DLC characters for every EA/Bioware game, and it was at the point that I was genuinely considering skipping this game altogether for that alone. Just a shockingly awful practice to engage in.

Man, I can't tell from their website, is this game going to be like the first DA or the 2nd? I loved the 1st, hated the 2nd and it seems this is leaning towards the 2nd again.

Haven't played any DA - might have tried 2 demo if I recall rightly but never got round to giving it a chance....

Are they turn based or action based? Party based or solo?

7. Other information:

-There will be a jar of bees, which can be used as a combat item which according to Bioware: "You throw it, the jar breaks open, and little bees fly around stinging your opponents."

This. Oh my god, this. I've been waiting so long for this.

But this game sounds great from what they're saying. I wonder if they can truly deliver on these promises.

"It’s like Origins, but bigger and smarter. Inquisitors don’t just roam around on foot, carving XP out of endangered mythical creatures or depriving bandits of their disposable wealth. They command armies, spies, and trade networks. With an idle wave of their fingers, they can wipe settlements off the map, blow up dams, excavate ruins for treasures, and even poison water supplies to weaken military outposts - shortly before kicking down the front gate and doing a bit of “work force consolidation,” care of a dirty great broadsword."

I can't believe any statement about the endings, I remember Casey Hudson saying that ME3 had 15 different endings and we all know that was a big fat lie. I love BioWare, but the burn of ME3 still kills me to this day so right now I'm super skeptical of anything they say they'll have to prove themselves to me again.

The series has become increasingly action-based. It's also party-based, with party size of 4.

I still need to see more to judge this. They'd naturally say it's more like Origins regardless of the truth, given that Origins was much better received.

They said this:

To be fair, neither Casey Hudson, the one who made that quote, or Mac Walters, the other responsible for the ME3 ending, have anything to do with Dragon Age.

Casey Hudson is great tho, but yeah... he fucked it with ME3.

This is the clarification they made about the endings a while ago:

I'm not only writing about Dragon Age: Inquisition today but I couldn't resist adding this: on Twitter, producer Cameron Lee has revealed that DAI will have "40 major endings with additional variations".

He also said your hero in the game can be any combination of two genders, four races, three classes, nine specialisations and also different voices.

I haven't been paying too much attention to DA:I stuff, but the character customization being back in means that I guess I'm going to have to buy this game now. Didn't realize that was returning.
