Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel | in Space | PC/360/PS3 only [Up: Screenshots]

Given the bomb after bomb of old gen exclusive games since next gen launched and next gen sales leading for every cross gen game I bet 2K are kicking themselves and we will probably see a next gen port.

Typical Gearbox cheaping out on the outsourcing again.

Had to release something before the true sequel, same as Arkham Origins. Probably will buy this and play split-screen with a friend, like the first two ones.

I suppose you are right. They've certainly outlined their costs for these things through their previous DLC. It's just a hard sell for me personally. I'm a bit burnt out on the series. I feel like it could really use a more solid gunplay foundation. Outside of the extremely addictive loot fest the core game systems seem a bit lackluster and tired.
Quite understandable.

I, myself look forward to more BL2-style action.

I've made the transition to PC so I'm not phased by this "last gen" business, at least on the surface. I bet Borderlands 3 looks way better on PC, assuming it comes to new consoles.

So since there's no current gen versions of this game genre, does that mean that Destiny will be free to rule on the PS4/Xbone for a year as THE game to go to for a coop shooter?

I'm definitely excited for this. I liked Borderlands, loved Borderlands 2, and I will most likely purchase this Day One
on PC.
I'm sure it'll end up as a PS+ game about a year after release, but more Borderlands is more Borderlands and I am perfectly fine with that.

You can be sure the existence of this was a business decision to allow for a current-gen only Borderlands 3.

You should be glad that Gearbox isn't slapping a 3 on a 2.5 game and bringing it as the first Borderlands on current-gen.

Loved BL2 on PC (355 hours) but I am ok to wait for this to hit Steam sale before picking it up. I can see if you were a console gamer why this would be a put off but at 1080p, 120fps and SweetFX SMAA, Borderlands 2 still looks amazing. I look forward to playing as Cl4p trap.

As far as storyline goes, this is Borderlands 1.5, but they were too late to their own party unlike the Dead Rising 2 downloads.

This should've been the story that gets us between 2 and 3, but they probably went against that idea to prevent backlash on how it's not cheaper Borderlands 2 DLC.

I would have thought that was Borderlands 2 DLC due to the fact that it is Borderlands 2 DLC. But on a disk lol.
I understand not changing the look because its easy to run with the cell shading and ts far less cost worthy plus is a signature look for the series but they didn't even bother to change the look of the hub, the text, anything. It literally is Borderlands 2 DLC with minor gameplay tweaks.

Pass until $12.99
I'm still pissed from the Borderlands 2 level caps and shit.

They really called it "The Pre-Sequel?" Okay...

Now, if this was coming exclusively to Vita or was at least day and date on Vita and last-gen instead of Borderlands 2, that'd be something for me. But last-gen only? Eeeeeehhhhh.

Good point.

Cant wait to see what BL3 looks like.

BL2 still looks amazing on PC.

I adore Borderlands 1 and 2, but I have zero interest in this game. Destiny is the multiplayer FPS loot game that I'll be playing this fall on PS4.

This would've been the PERFECT April Fools announcement. I mean, just look at that boxart, and the title, nobody would have believed them.

I think 'The Prequel Sequel' would've been a better title though, or simply "Borderlands: In Space!" if they are going to use such a cheesy one anyway.

Come on people, you know it will launch next summer on next gen with improvements and all the DLC, they will call it Borderlands Definitive Pre-Sequel Edition and cash in on everyone that is sticking it to them by not buying anything last gen.

No deal. Bored of the series already. 1 was interesting, 2 improved it, but there jsut isnt enough to keep me entertained for a 3rd outing. Also still bitter over Aliens: CM so fuck giving gearbox my money

I wonder if Anthony Burch is writing this one. The only thing that could make this game shitty is the story.

Yup, and the moon people will be Australians.

The game, a full game promises Pitchford, is being written by Gearbox writers including Anthony Burch along with a team of writers in Australia.

Because the game isn't Borderlands 3, there is less of an emphasis on new technology and a new look, and more of one on the game's story, Burch said.

"I thought, ‘OK, well what's a story that exists within our current universe that will make sense?' and we found this by space between Borderlands 1 and Borderlands 2," he said. "Why not tell Jack's story in a way that makes him a little bit more sympathetic and maybe the hunters from the other two games a little bit less sympathetic to sort of push the game's dark tone a little bit further because for all of its jokes, not taking itself seriously, the Borderlands games are kind of about not super awesome people. Like, they're dudes who murder people and take stuff from their bodies, and we laugh about it because it's funny and it's a dark humor kind of world, but we thought, ‘Well, OK, if we're going to do something that's this gen rather than next gen, that gives us license to take more risks.'"

That mix of writers, Burch said, will also hopefully produce a wider variety of comedy in the game.

"It's Australian gags for the most part, which is a very different sort of sensibility, a very English sensibility compared to our very westernized, farts and screaming at the player kind of thing," Burch said.

The team decided early on that it would also be fun to essentially make the inhabitants of the moon Australians.

"That just became the rule," Pitchford said.

Among the voice talent the 2K Australian team brought on is Bruce Spence, the New Zealand actor who is best known for his role as the gyro pilot in Max Max 2 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

"We definitely have a lot of Australian culture to tap into, and the Borderlands world is kind of perfect to do that," 2K Australia's Lawrence said. "There's definitely that kind of variance of the American humor, British humor, Australian humor, and there's also Dickensian kind of side missions in there. There's cricket side mission in there."

i like that they're playing with the tone of the writing. although it's getting tougher and tougher to dust off the ps3.

Feels like a Pokemon Black & White scenario.
Eg. Another instalment to draw out time for production on the actual, real sequel.

Thats not what he said, he says B2 sold more than there are next-gen owners, and made out like he'd be an idiot for going next gen, and is smart for going previous gen.
Because numbers.

Yeah, tell that to all the companies scrapping last-gen versions because the generational switch has happened a lot faster than expected and those machines are fast becoming minecraft/PS+ boxes.
Indeed. Not only has the take up been much faster than before, how many of the switchers were the active buyers on the old consoles?

All well and good saying 150m install base, but if BL2 sold I dunno, 15m or whatever it did on 360/PS3 but more than half of those have now shifted to PS4/XBO you've shafted yourself.

Odd also when you look at the amount of last-gen ports, and how quick some devs are saying porting is now, and how similar these consoles are to PC architecturally.

I think the translation of what he said is actually 'we were given a very small budget'.

I can't imagine this not getting the port treatment after it's all said and done.

I am okay with more borderlands, generation of console the game is on doesn't really matter to me. More coop loot grind is fine with me!

Also this topic would barely be a page long if we removed all the next gen whining.

Day 1 for sure. Don't understand the hate, as I've had some of the most fun couch coop on PS3 via the borderlands series than any other game.
