IGN Rumor: Nintendo Revealing New Hardware at E3 [Up: MCV + Videogamer]

Would a revised Wii U make any sense? You'd think if anything nintendo is probably much closer to shutting down production of the Wii u than they are to starting production of a new version of a product that sells so poorly.

Didn't someone post in one of the Wii U CPU/GPU discussion threads late last yr that Nintendo had selected key parts for a piece of new hardware? I recall something like that being posted but can't find the post.

I doubt it is a new console but I hope it is. Nothing will save the Wii:U. Drastic measures need to be taken and Nintendo needs to be bold. They can do this by releasing a new console.

BUT, that's wishful thinking. Don't get your hopes up. It will probably be some minor revision to the 3DS or Wii:U.

Honestly this rumor stinks. If Nintendo doesn't show anything they'll get even more negative press. But hey, IGN is getting clicks.

look at this fucking thing:

It makes me think of the OG Nintendo DS.

They have to make that shit sleeker and smaller, along with a cheaper revision.

I expect a redesign. They're gonna try rebranding before they abandon ship.

You really shouldn't write off rumours like this completely. Remember how people thought it'd be absurd for Nintendo to drop 3D? And guess what, 2DS appears! Don't underestimate Nintendo in terms of doing silly things.

There's silly things, and then there are things that would erode consumer faith in the company and potentially destroy their business.

I will be so incredibly surprised if they revealed completely new handheld or consoles at E3 this year. Mark my words.

Do you remember what happened with the Saturn & Dreamcast?

Nintendo was looking for a new SOC, which lines up well with the 3DS and its announcement.

Well, do you remember the Virtual Boy?

Worst case: what's the one thing none of us want but Nintendo insists on?

Best case: Wii-Uculous Rift googles or something

The Wii-U controller IS their Occulous Rift VR display it's just nobody's had the bright idea to capitalize on it as such outside of the Zelda NintendoLand minigame. Goddamn waste.

That was just poor design and timing. Nintendo's console is not contemporary and is why it is failing. Nintendo needs a new contemporary console with achievements, online play, modern hardware, etc., and if it's BC with WiiU great to turn things around. The WiiU will fail and flop harder.

Virtual Boy wasn't a replacement to either the GameBoy or the SNES. These would be. It's different.

Since when did achievements make a console good? Also, the Wii U is modern hardware. May be underpowered compared to its counterparts, sure, but it's modern.

Didn't Nintendo already say in a financial/investor call that they're working on some kind of fitness/health thing? If it's not a new model of WiiU or 3DS then that's probably more likely.

A cost reduced version would make perfect sense. Maybe by shrinking the gamepad screen. Look at the PS3 slim

Hopefully the internal storage goes up rather than down though.

A redesign, a new sku or an add on yes. A new hardware, that would be pretty ballsy if it did happen. I will wait til E3.

The most I could see them doing is teasing their next handheld and possibly some of its features or how it will tie into their plan for a more unified Nintendo ecosystem starting next gen. I can't really see them outright showing the actual hardware or any real games for it this year though, I am thinking E3 2015 is when they'll actually announce it for release that fall/winter.

In what world is PowerPC modern?

Absolutely without question.

Because the GBA flopped so hard when it was released when the GBC was 2 and a half years old? Or because the DS flopped so hard because it was released when the GBA was only 3 and a half years old?

The 3DS is over 3 years old now and a 2015 release for the new handheld would make it 4-4 1/2 when its replacement is released. As Nintendo showed with both the Wii U and 3DS is it never a good idea to wait until the previous system is dead to release your successor. The 3DS's sales have been on a downward trend since 2012. They have to strike while the iron is hot.

What would Nintendo Devs do with that much power? They are still learning last gen tech and haven't topped PS3's best games. Console power isnt their problem. It's now developer talent that they lack, at least on the graphics front.

I've read some garbage on this forum in my time but this post is up there with the best. So what you're basically saying is that to be a talented developer, you need to "do good grafffixxx".

Really hoping this isn't true, feels like a slap in the face for everyone who bought a wii u for them to just trash it do soon.

Hopefully, if it I don't true, people who own site wii u get some kind if discount, and the new system better be backwards compatible.

In all seriousness, it's going to be the same thing as always. Rumors start. People get hyped. Announcement turns out to be something completely worthless. #crankykong

I have a WiiU. And i love it.
Still, i'd buy a more powerfull successor in a heartbeat.
Just because Zelda deserves it...

If not, i'll still enjoy my WiiU.
