Stop it guys, I got burned really bad on Halo 4 but I keep reading shit that increases my interest in Halo 5.

well. go back to the Halo 4 hype.

they had Greg Bear writting books. Reach playlists management had been a failure.
They had Corinne Yu, Sparth and an incredible team of AAA talents.
The biggest Halo budget ever.
They turned the concept of live action ads into a mini-series.
etc...

then we got Halo 4.

the game is a year and a half away. turn down the hype. at this point it's useless.

and in the meantime there is a little game called Destiny that's shipping.

I really don't like the look of Destiny. Looks like a borderlands game trying to take itself seriously.

It also seems to have everything Halo fans hated about 4. So I don't see how people are expecting it to replace Halo...

60fps has nothing to do with the pace of the game. It simply makes everything feel significantly more responsive and smooth.

I know that :p

I'm just saying i hope the decision wasn't made because they felt they absolutely needed a faster framerate to further CODify the game.

Destiny sounds interesting at the moment and I have faith that Bungie will deliver a great game though it's a whole different beast, at least from what we've seen it looks like Borderlands with good shooting/art direction to me. Halo fans may want to play a game like this but it's not gonna replace Halo, as I see it Halo fans want an amazing Halo game and that's what 343i will hopefully make.

Halo 4 while a good game had problems but it was the first game on a huge series (that is definitely not easy to continue) by a new studio on old ass hardware. Personally I love Halo and I'm willing to give 343i a second chance before writing the series off, IMO Halo 5 is the real test for 343i.

Why do i always see people posting about Destiny in these threads as if it's the same kind of shooter as Halo. Looks like Boarderlands to me gameplay wise, not that it's a bad thing. I already have it on pre order and will play it day one, but it's no substitute for Halo and has no effect on my hype for it.

I don't get Destiny at all.
people say MMO yet it doesn't have the best parts of one,
people compare it to Halo yet it doesn't seem cohesive and looks like you are just clearing mob after mob "teleporting" from dungeon to dungeon.

So far to me it looks like Halo Firefight with fancy weapon and awesome visual. Because thats what they have been showing since last year. No new game type, just clearing out bunch area with friends. No sure what do they mean by exploring and MMO type experience people are saying.

All those sites are just desperate for hits. Of course Frank would be upset at possibly having the game/title leaked since it's under embargo. I mean Bonnie was up at 3 AM to announce it for and the better part of the preceding day, most of us were wondering what Halo 5 had to do with Guardians of the Galaxy.

As a gamer/consumer, I love leaks. We're naturally curious and want to know things as quick as possible. It's like hearing breaking news, getting some secretive inside scoop we wouldn't normally have. But if I was in the industry and planning a large reveal, having to keep my mouth shut for months, of course I'd be upset too.

I hope it ends up being good because a lot of people in my Socom clan are the ones that are really hyped for it, so I will end up having to get it anyway.

To me, it looks more like co-operative campaign where everyone gets the equivalent loot from big boss kills rather than the competitive scoring that Firefight has. I have no idea how the competitive multiplayer is supposed to work, I don't even know if it's been talked about publicly yet.

Wow, there are some juicy tidbits of info here that should be added to the OP or something. Frankie says the engine isn't just an iteration, it's completely revamped. This I was not expecting, considering they're shooting for 60fps. Honestly I'd almost be happy with Halo 4's visuals at 60 fps. Also, a hint at a decent ranking system making it's way back? You're doing it, you're doing it Peter!

I would kinda be as well, but this is next-gen... I want really juicy graphics at 60fps! Even 900p, that'll be fine.

Halo 4 on 360 was just amazing visually, I hope they can up the game on X1. For sure Halo 6 will bring the goods however.

Well hopefully they can get Halo 4 running at 60 fps on Xbox One, but this time at 1080p, with MSAA, better draw distances, and a decent split-screen mode.

I personally loved Halo 4, but as other people who disliked it are pointing out, don't hype yourself up yet.

We've got a teaser image and two pieces of concept art with no context. Let's wait until E3 before we commence the hype.

And who confirmed this to be Sanghelios?

Me. Two suns, a statue of an elite with an energy sword, reddish setting, the architecture of the Sangheli as described in the books. Not a whole lot of planets it could be. Had it not been for the two suns it could be a Sangheli colony elsewhere, but they make the odds very high that it's Sanghelios proper.

If those were suns, this planet the art takes place on would look like Mercury. So if they are suns, then Forerunner spectral dilators are operating at a significant capacity to keep the planet biologically stable. Which means it can't be Sanghelios (If they are suns), since Forerunners weren't around long enough to implement spectral dilators to allow evolution to take place.

Also, would you care to provide me with a citation/quote(s) that you used to make the visual connection to Sangheili architecture?

...Wait, what are you talking about? Sanghelios DOES have multiple suns without any forerunner trickery, three in fact, and the two visible ones there narrow down the selection a whole lot. And Sanghelios does look a lot like mercury, red dirt and all.

http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Sanghelios

a trinary star system of the stars Urs, Fied, and Joori.

I guess they could be reddish moons or something else, but I'm talking probabilistically, combining what they appear to be with the statue of a Sangheli with his energy sword.

I'll have to drudge up some quotes from the Kilo-five trilogy for the architecture, but seeing as near a whole book happens there it's described fairly well.

Hey, actually finding Cortana isn't implied by searching.

And the entire time, the Chief is hunted by Dustin Echoes, now wearing SIV armour he found in the Chiron TL-34 dumpster, wanting to get back at him for the abandonment on Alpha Halo.

And then the game-long fetch quest ends with the Chief finding a McFarlane Cortana figure.

Damn, Dustin Echoes brings back a lot of memories and lame jokes between my friends and I, haha.

I know and understand that.

The problem I'm having is the proximity of the suns to the planet in the concept art. If they are indeed suns, then the planet's surface should be comparable to Mercury. Which, is why I'm saying Forerunner spectral dilators would need to have been implemented to keep the planet stable at a biological level.

Ah. Well it's concept art for one, they could make the suns appear smaller in the final game, and just have that there to show there are multiple stars. And besides, each sun doesn't have to operate at the temperature of ours, there are far cooler ones out there. And Sanghelios does have a far higher lowest temperature than us, at -5C.

And Sanghelios does look much like Mercury, since you bring that up. Lots of desert and red sand.

Mercury is molten on one side and frozen on the other.

I'm well acquainted with Sanghelios. The problem I'm having is that nothing in the K5 trilogy ever remarked anything regarding Sangheili architecture to look comparable to Persian architecture.

Which is why I'm asking for a citation or two. I'm just not buying into the whole, "It's Sanghelios!" spiel just yet. Although it is rather compelling.

Mercury is molten on one side and frozen on the other due to its lack of atmosphere, which Sanghelios doesn't have the problem of. And like I said, the sun could burn cooler than we're used to for all we know, or more likely the exact distances weren't taken into account for the concept art.

I'll try to hunt down some quotes on their architecture later.

Actually, since Sanghelios has a "blood sun" which I'll take to mean red, it's very likely it burns cooler than our yellow sun.

I missed the initial news, but let me get this straight;

Halo 5 title leaked, along with boxart place holder? New protagonist who will share lead with Master Chief, ala Halo 2?

Also, someone from 343 found out about the leaks, and is (naturally) upset? Did I get all that right?

It was not leaked. No info on new guy other than him being new.

Nothing leaked besides that there was an announcement coming. We have no idea what the implications are of the new character on the art that was released by 343. It's not final box art. Frankie chimed in about the leaks about how they suck, so yea you were right there.

Appreciate it. Some people in my circle were trying to tell me Halo 5 info was leaked. Thanks for the clarification.

New Spartan on top looks incredible.

I wonder if they try(or going from the trailer tried) to stick Chief with a new AI.

I'd like to actually see his reaction to getting a "fake" Cortana as a replacement.

Little off topic but I'm interested in people's opinions on the forerunners. Do you guys think that halo 4 did a good job portraying them?

I was personally a little disappointed with the way they handled forerunners. I understand they wanted to introduce new bad guys, but I always envisioned forerunners as extraordinarily superior to us technologically. I always think back to the line that guilty spark says in the first halo about Master Chiefs armor being around a 3 on a 20 point scale (or something to that effect). When I ran into a forerunner weapon crate with "forerunner battle rifle" and "forerunner assault rifle" etc it ruined a lot of the mystique of forerunners in general.

At what temperature do the suns of that world burn? And what is the atmospheric density? And what creatures live there? And what time of day is it? How do Rayleigh and Mie scattering work there? And so on and so forth...

lol, furious.

I was supposed to sound like a mildly disappointed dad.

Just like the covanant guns, the forerunner guns have to be toned waaaay down for gameplay, otherwise you could one shot literally everything. They can make elephants into molten ash in one shot.

And the Didacts Armor *is* way more advanced than Chiefs, that's why he literally had to be fixed in place for chief to even have a chance. Again, hard to portray in games, but I wouldn't be surprised if forerunner armor could withstand nukes, especially as the Didact is foremost among their military and military got better combat skins than civvies.

By the way, the exact quote was
"May I suggest that you upgrade to at least a Class-Twelve combat skin? Your current model only scans as a Class-Two, which is ill-suited for this kind of work."
, and we don't know if classes directly tie to strength. Ie they could have more to do with functions than strength, as 343 also later says Chief is a good planner for bringing an environment suit. Maybe class two is like a hazmat suit for them, while class 12 is combat, etc.

I'm preobably reading way too far into this, but I find that this is worded fairly specifically.
The Halo Bulletin: 05/21/14 said:
It’s 2:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on Friday, March 16. After about an hour of sleep, my alarm goes off, but for the first time in weeks, and possibly months, I don’t hit the snooze button. Instead, I jump out of bed, throw a hoodie on, grab my backpack and keys, and I’m out the door. After a quick, foggy-eyed drive down the road, I swipe my badge at the door, and find a (mostly empty) studio, with a few fellow members of the Community team already at their desks. It was time to announce the title of the next installment in the legendary saga of the Master Chief, Halo 5: Guardians.
Now, the general speculation right now is that the Ridley Scott feature is going to be following Mike Colter as "Marlowe" and that this character is also the unnamed spartan on the Visual ID art released last week for Halo 5: Guardians.
Back to the Bulletin, What if the reason that the team keeps wording halo 5 that way and referencing a 2014 Halo release because the next halo release we'll see is a small back story for Marlowe? Of course, IF this were the case it would essentially be what MGSV: Ground Zeros is for the Phantom Pain, but it would be cool to release a game to support this new character. It would be like if they released the Arbiter half of Halo 2's campaign as a small stand alone.
I feel like they could do this alongside a Halo 2 Anniversary as kind of a Spartan Ops style "demo" campaign.
(Frankie, tell me I'm reaching if this is ridiculous)
I don't necessarily want this to happen, it's really just speculation, but it really could be interesting.
TL;DR: Marlowe could get a game before Halo 5 comes out.

I'd be down for a small Halo title staring the new guy. I want another ODST though. I don't want another Halo staring a new character bc it will just be like a normal Halo. ODST was fresh and fun.
