Oh, and i don't have to tell you this, but you put 50 keys in this thread, not 25 like you said. A minor nitpick.

Actually, I numbered the keys from 1-50, and split them up between two threads (1-25, 26-50). So in this thread, it was always 26-50 (unless I made a mistake somewhere!).

Wound up trying a bunch of keys that were already taken so I got locked out for a bit, hopefully there's still an unredeemed key when I regain the ability to redeem codes. :p

Heh, sorry. I guess people are taking codes without mentioning it. If you end up without a code and still want one, just let me know and I'll send you one through PM.

Hi, I'm part of a dev team called The Working Parts, and we just released our first game on Steam, called They Breathe! I made this post in the Steam thread for May as well, but thought it would make sense to make it here too. Hope it's ok!

The game is an atmospheric, experimental indie title about a frog. It has no on-screen user interface, no dialogues - it's a very 'pure' experience. Don't want to give away too much, since part of the fun is exploring the game on your own. It takes about 30 mins to play through, with a price-point of $1.99/€1.49/£1.49. The game has been available through Xbox Live Indie Games and Desura before, but we've made some improvements to the Steam version and added achievements and cards. And it works great with a 360 controller.

But anyway, after 14+ years of being a NeoGAF member I wanted to give something back to the community.
So I've decided to give away 25 Steam codes for They Breathe in this thread (and 25 codes in the Steam thread for May as well, just to balance things out). Quote to reveal! And would be nice if you pointed out which code you've taken.

Used #37. Will check this out right now. Thanks! :)

Hey all! We just put out Astebreed on Playism.

If you saw us at PAX East this past April, you would have seen the game on the center PC of our booth. It's a frenetically paced arcade shooter with a dynamic camera that shifts between vertical, horizontal and 3D shooter as you play through a level.

Here's a kickass trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYsfyMut3TE

And a few screenshots!

If you like Panzer Dragoon, Cave shooters, beautiful particle effects or even crazy PSO style techno music, you must play Astebreed.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Just played through the current IGS deal Soul Gambler. I was interested in it previously already, so I figured I might give it a whirl now.
8VJjDLH.jpg

https://indiegamestand.com/deal/

The game is a virtual graphic novel loosely based on the Faust myth and presents the player with different dilemmas and opportunities to make important decisions. I liked the clean style and I was kinda impressed by how different the set pieces can play out depending on your previous choices and skills. I also thought the story was entertaining throughout the whole game, and knowing or not knowing the Faust myth probably wont affect anyones opinion on the game. The game is rather short, especially if you only consider playing through it once. It took me around 1-2 hours to finish the game and to get most of the achievements in 3 or 4 playthroughs, but the first playthrough was by FAR the longest, since I was skipping all the texts in the latter playthroughs. Length feels fine to be honest, especially because the different choices actually feel like having an impact on the overall story, compared to other games with choices like Mass Effect, where, outside of major choices like THIS CHARACTER DIES, the choices rarely give different story advancements. Sure, I'd love it to be even longer, but it was definitely worth $1 for the 2 hours. So yeah, recommended as gaming quickie.

They Breathe - It's a short game that doesn't tell you what you have to do or how the game mechanics works (besides the "press the space bar to swim faster" message in the title screen), it really pass the feel you venturing into the unknown. I like these kind of games where you need to pay attention to understand how the "world" works, not every game needs to have a tutorial holding the player's hand in every new discovery.

------------------------------------------------------------

I'm pretty sure M_B will post about it in the #screenshotsaturday posts but I anyway, Lucas Pope is working in a new game: Return of Obra Dinn.

tidD2Ti.gif

The thread on tigsource has a lot of info.

In 1802, the merchant ship "Obra Dinn" set out from London for the Orient with over 200 tons of trade goods. Six months later it hadn't met its rendezvous point at the Cape of Good Hope and was declared lost at sea. Early this morning of October 14th, 1808, the Obra Dinn drifted into port with sails damaged and no visible crew. As insurance adjustor for the East India Company's London Office, find means to board the ship and recover the captain's logbook for assessment.

Edit: I'm too slow xD

Holy Wow Studios launched a kickstarter for their next game "Icarus Proudbottom: Starship Captain" and they are asking for $50,000

94ec6901edbf0bef0ac4c71adc5237a8_large.gif

Icarus Proudbottom: Starship Captain is not an action game, a strategy game, a build-a-ship simulator, or a 4X Space Epic - there are already hundreds of those! It's a character-driven adventure game & bridge simulator whose goal is to make you feel the pressure and joys of being a captain and communicating with your crew.

It seems to me that all codes are gone. However, it might be just Steam which tells this after a few wrong tries.

Yeah, heard some people had trouble getting codes to work, might be something wrong with the codes. Worst case scenario, if anyone's still missing a code for They Breathe and really want one, send me a PM.

Voting May!

RULES THIS MONTH IN SHORT: Up to 10 games, at least 4.

Why?
Because we want to offer people who first step into the thread an easy go-to list for great games. Plus it gives more attention to the titles that really deserve it.

How?
Everyone votes on his top 10 games out of the ones that already have been released AND are mentioned in the OP (So everything in Post 2). I'll tally the results and put the best 5 in the next thread. A minimum voting count of 4 is required. Feel free to vote for games that you deem "important" or the ones that you enjoyed the most. Since this is a rather communicative thread, feel free to include a short description why these games ended up on your list or a "honorable" mention if you feel that one game deserves another mention even though it wont count for your list. That way it would also make it interesting to read which games we should check out that others might have enjoyed. You dont need to "rank" the 10 games. Every list entry gets 1 point for the overall ranking.

When?
This thread is still open until the end of the month, so you can drop your list in here whenever you want. You can also change your list up to the last day. I wont start the count before the last day of the month, so everyone has still time to revise their lists and play some games. Speaking of which, if you dont even KNOW 7 games to vote for, there are plenty free games in the OP to check out. Most of which are rather short too. Use the remaining week to catch up with 1 or 2 titles you didnt get around to yet!

:(

Probably will have to pull an all-nighter on Wednesday to write up my usual impressions.

I stopped playing Destiny of Spirits, so thats a plus for my time, but Demon Gaze and Wolfenstein took up quite a bit of my free time in the past 2 weeks. That plus tasks for my job. Maybe I can squeeze in some last minute play time, but not sure.

Maybe this is the wrong place to post this, but I'm pretty excited and want to share what me and a few friends have been building in Unity. This was also posted in the Steam Greenlight page as we just launched our Greenlight campaign! We're still working on it, but we have a little over half of the game's content built and we're cruising along trying to get it finished.

The hook for Tinertia is that you use the right analog stick to fire rockets in any direction (on a 2D plane) and if you want to jump you need to fire at the ground to rocket jump, there is no jump button. Everything is physics based, so the angle you shoot at determines how you jump in the air, off walls or off the ceiling!

We're going for very tight, difficult, and short levels that really force the player to learn the rocket mechanics. Hopefully a few of you guys are big into difficult platformers!

Yeah, Mario Golf is my Destiny of Spirits at the moment. It's like regular gaming and indie gaming are separate activities and I can only entertain one of the two. Only with the former, I'm not getting _as_ swamped with titles I can only spend 20 minutes with before they get buried under new stuff. So yeah, I could claim 'being busy' was the only reason, but I can't deny that my newfound joy in finishing games had something to do with it, as well.

Still, that's hardly a knock against the games, just a personal matter.

Posted my impressions throughout the thread. May was a good month. Battleblock Theater, Always Sometimes Monsters, Transistor, other stuff. Those will definitely be on my June list

Icarus Proudbottom Wekly was great, if I didn't knew
about the kickstarter I could never have guessed to where the story were heading.

Thought i would post up my work in progress. Really just a basic level and some dogfighting at this stage, largely using tons of asset store kits/models but i plan on keeping the lowpoly style.

Looking for game ideas. Some of the things i am thinking of adding

-More ship types (large capitol ships e.t.c)
-Possibly rogue like elements ?
-Plan on keeping it simple and fun

http://ausroachman.itch.io/prototype-flyer

Love everyones opinions and ideas. its still in its very early stages but looking to grow it from here.

Love everyones opinions and ideas. its still in its very early stages but looking to grow it from here.

It's not a recent game, but from what I understand they added content in the new release and there is a sequel coming out this year.

I like to read post-mortem about games so I'd like to share this one about the Icarus Proudbottom series, I advise to read it after you played the games.

Stardewvalley (my most anticipated game) developer posted two new blog entries from the last time I visited game's blog, one about the game's music that is turning out to be awesome and other about the Festivals. I still hope the game get released this year.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Because I dont have any time left this month for impressions, I'll resort to ratings for the games I played and power through some last week impressions. If you want more detailed impressions on a game you havent played or are curious why I rated it low/high, let me know and I'll write them up.

1. Echo of the Wilds 10/10 - Survival game with a great art style mixed with a mysterious story and a rewarding progression. Super lovely, has a demo and I'll buy the full game later. I really need to find the time to make a video on it. Every Voting list this month that doesnt have this game on it in one form or the other means that you didnt play the game, not that it wasnt good enough to be on your list :p
2. Icarus Proudbottom Weekly Typing 10/10 - Pretty much perfect for a story focussed typing game .
3. BroForce 9/10 - Didnt think I'd ever like a game that is aimed at "Bros", but here I am.
4. LEVEL 22, Gary's Misadventures 8/10 - Neat stealth game with quite difficult secrets to find.
5. The Fourth Wall 8/10 - This one got me by surprise, puzzle platformer that I thought was pretty standard at first but the way they use the mechanics together with the level design is actually quite...interesting.
6. Regions 8/10 - Lovely puzzle game. I want this on my phone.
7. UFHO2 - Cute puzzle strategy game, oozes with style and charme.
8. Mighty Tactical Shooter 7/10 - Love the concept, but the execution is a bit lacking. Its just not very nice to play atm. Cool concept to tinker around with, though.
9. Life Goes On 7/10 - Like the concept, but it seems a tad expensive. Its also kind of repetetive to go through the levels a million times until you can finally clear it.
10. Airships 7/10 - Lots of potential, love the building part, but needs more building elements.
11. Orbitalis 7/10 - Works well, challenging.
12. Beneath the City 7/10 - Charming game, good puzzle mechanics and challenging levels. Tad simple though.
13. Radium 7/10 - Good action platformer working with "magnetism".
14. Narcissus 7/10 - Surprisingly challening concept for an endless runner.
15. Slip 6/10 - Ikaruga Jump&Run. I like this game...in concept. Unfortunately, the jumping physics feel "off" and I couldnt quite bring myself to enjoy it so far. Might retry that one again though as its otherwise a pretty good game.
16. The Sun and Moon 6/10 - Interesting concept for a platformer and the level design makes it rather hard to navigate. The novelty effect wore off rather quickly.
17. Cross Code 6/10 - Actually really like this one, but as a prototype it only has like 10-15 minutes of content. If it had more levels, it would be among the best games this month for me. Works very well.
18. Vox 6/10 - Cute game, but still needs more content.
19. Lamp and Vamp 5/10 - Good Strategy game, but a copy of multiple other similar games on iOS/Android. Unpolished for a PC "release".
20. Another Star 5/10 - Cute RPG, but mostly collecting "loot" as currency instead of actual loot feels a bit cheap.
21. MuSquare 5/10 - Seems pretty standard for an collect/escape game, with some minor twists to the gameplay formula, but not all that outstanding.
22. RagTag 5/10 - Another roguelike, but the gameplay mechanics dont seem very well thought out atm.
23. Indie Action 5/10 - Not very polished.
24. Ronin 4/10 - Gunpoint clone and worse at everything.
25. No More Bullets 4/10 - Not fun to play.
26. Dark Deception 4/10 - 3D Pacman, didnt see much of the horror effect though, so maybe my experience wasnt what its supposed to be.
27. Croixleur Sigma 4/10 - Super generic.
28. Power Grounds 3/10 - Simple and uninteresting roguelike.
29. Because This Is Literally The Best We Could Come Up With: Retribution 2/10 - A powerup that shoots cheese is original, I'll give them that.

Still need to try CyberHeist with a friend of mine and Sandbox (Anyone got impressions on those?). And yeah, Echo of the Wilds is easily my favourite this month. The style is refreshingly interesting and its just really well made overall. If you havent checked out the game yet, you really, really should.

Well I just bought Echoes of the Wild. Will post impressions probably tomorrow. RPS did a good review back in March: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/03/24/review-echo-of-the-wilds-survival-sim/

Didn't play much this month, although it's definitely more than usual. *EDIT* Fuckit, I got nothing better to do, I'M GUNNA PLAY SOME GAMES. I'll update my list as I play them.

1. Depths of Fear :: Knossus - It's really rough around the edges, however I'm really enjoying it. Your character is tossed into a dungeon and forced to take on 8 legendary creatures from Greek mythology. As you enter each creature's den you are forced to hide from them until you obtain the medallion that allows you to fight with them head on. Each dungeon you enter into is randomized so you always have to be on your toes. Unfortunately, the game is locking up my computer, so I haven't been able to sink my teeth into it. The game's sole developer has been active on the Steam forums and is dedicated to fixing the game's problems.

2. Beneath the City - Once I heard that the game was heavily inspired by Thief I had to check it out :p. The inspirations is super obvious from the start, there is a light gem and water arrows for putting out torches. The guards (which are the only enemies in the game) are also called Hammerites. The biggest departure from Thief however, is the fact that the game has a top down viewpoint and is turn based. Anyways, I played for about 30 minutes and had quite a bit of fun with it.

3. Ronin - It's like Gunpoint except you're a ninja...and the combat is kinda turn-based. When you click the jump button the game pauses allowing you to dodge your enemies bullets. I dug it.

4. Dark Deception - First person Pac-man. It's not really scary, but I had some fun with it. Being in first person makes it a little difficult to know exactly where your enemies are though.

5. Crosscode - Nice pixel art and the combat mechanic was pretty neat. Not a whole lot of content right now, but I'm definitely interested.

6. The Last Night - Super short adventure game made in 6 days. There really wasn't much to it, but the art was amazing.

7. Power Grounds - simple rogue-like, with a neat magic mechanic.

8. Echo of the Wilds - It was okay, not a big fan of the tutorial. I hate it when games teach you obvious stuff like walking, I just wunna play! The narrator reminds me of the Pagans from the Thief games. I'm kinda rushing through these games at the moment, so I don't think I'm being very fair. I'll check it out again sometime.

9. Croixleur Sigma - Fast paced hack n' slash game. I only played for about 10 minutes, it's not really my thing.

10. No More Bullets - Seems like I was doing more running than luring or sneaking. Didn't really care for the way it looked either.
