There is some straight up admitting of piracy in that benchmark thread..
The amount of illusory moral superiority in this thread is hilarious.
Which posts?
Very much so.
Shame it wasn't dogecoin, really. The memes write themselves.
why don't you go find out and report back to us.
LolIt's been interesting to see this guy's feeble attempts to justify it throughout this thread, after removing the word shit from every other sentence we can conclude the following:
1. piracy is a victimless crime. you think otherwise? lol
2. anyone opposing this is surely feigning
3. i dont like the RRP, it must be artificially inflated
4. why won't they the lower the RRP, they'd still make bank on consoles
5. its all good, it is AAA after all. they take it into consideration
6. scratch that, anyone opposing is now surely a corporate apologist
7. there are worse things happening in the world right now, leave us be
8. they already make too much money, its time for others to get a piece of the action
and you have the audacity to claim people are talking shit? you're free to do as you please, just don't try to sugarcoat it in public so you can feel better about yourself. cunt.
If the source is 4chan, 99.99% of the time it's complete bullshit. Besides, if there was a duff torrent (for anything), there's going to be comments about how it's duff all over its page on The Pirate Bay.
That is pretty damn low. Unless Ubisoft is doing it themselves as some kinda counter-piracy measure (they arent), the guy infecting other people's computers is the biggest scum here.
I disagree. I wholeheartedly support any action taken against thieves. People who pirate are stealing. They might try and justify their motivation by claiming games are too expensive or they have been burned on crappy games in the past and to that I say get a job and watch a Letsplay before buying.
Not only am I glad that their computers got the virus I wish it also took all sensitive material from their hard drive, I.E., nude photos, financial records and home addresses and posted then to all the chans. Nothing is worth than the self entitled who feel they can take whatever they want without consequences.
Fuck them.

Gotta say, I think it's been proven on several cases that pirating actually does damage a company. The Witcher 2 being and excellent case of this.
This is for the Witcher 1/2

This stuff does hurt the company, I do believe The Witcher 3 has been on the ropes on more than on occasion and CD Projekt Red had to do re organize itself as well as cancel projects, I dont quite remember links for these statements.
Pirating does hurt, It's a shame people try to justify spending their $60 when a company has put in millions to create the game. Sure some games have not lived up or warranted a $60, But if you really like the game and are excited for it and you like the developer then support them.

I love when people don't take into account, that many people pirate to benchmark the game on their system and decide if they'll purchase it based on that. If it runs like shit or they don't enjoy it, they delete it. If they do enjoy it, or runs well, they buy it. It's amazing how no one considers this.

The amount of hoops you need to jump through to make taking a product that isn't yours not stealing is incredible. If you pirate a game you are stealing it. If you go into a store and take a game do you think you'll be arrested for theft or breaking copyright law? Why is it that when it turns digital it isn't theft?Just warned a guy on my Steam list playing a torrented version.
No they aren't. They're breaking copyright law.
I agree, though maybe not for the same reasons.
...and that's why you don't pirate games.

Just to fix the wrong in this post:
1) CD Projekt was in dire financial straits BEFORE Witcher 2 was released, and the cause of that was attempted console port of Witcher 1. They had to cancel it, let go many people and pay back Atari, barely surviving
2) Witcher 2 has been immensely successful on PC, and it is thanks to that sucess, piracy or not, that CD Projekt was able to build second team for Cyberpunk, and make first team bigger than it has ever been, for Witcher 3
3) CDP know far too well that not every pirated copy is a lost sale, and many pirates can be converted into paying customers. Because many pirates are pupils and students, who only start buying games when they get their own income. Acting as if each copy pirated = lost sale is stupid.
Give me a break. Yes I'm sure there are 5 people out there who do this.
On the topic of Piracy not affecting sales.....
FM 2014 sold near 20% less than FM 2013, the difference being 2013 had to wait 6 months for a working crack , FM14 was cracked day 1.
I do it. I actually stopped playing 30 minutes into the game after realizing I enjoyed it and plopped down $60 for a pre-order. Yes, the ratio is low for people who actually end up buying the game, but it's really not as low as you make it out to be. I've even talked to two other people who did the same, placing pre-orders for the PS4 version after trying it on PC.
And I have to say about the bitcoin thing, hilarious. I got my version a few days ago (non-torrent version) and checked task manager after running the game the first time for hidden processes. However, I don't understand how people are applauding. The pirates are still getting their games and the person responsible for spreading the pirated game gets money. After all, this isn't much different that the risks pirates typically take by downloading stuff they have no clue about whether or not it contains a virus.

I don't want to be a snitch but I know one that has been edited
The problem is proving the link, at least if you want to use that as evidence.
I can understand someone wanting to play the PC version without having to deal with UPlay, but if it were me I'd just buy a legit copy and find a way to crack UPlay off of it, or pay for a copy of the game somewhere and then download the torrent. Have you ever tried to install a game through UPlay (not a UPlay game on Steam, just UPlay)? It's bullshit.
That's just one example of piracy being a service issue a lot of the time. People might not want to deal with intrusive DRM, or always-online DRM. It's the main reason I still haven't bought Diablo III. Steam has worked around this by providing enough value with DRM software that creates minimal inconvenience. Many people pirate because it's actually the quickest and easiest way to acquire media, regardless of whether they pay for it. I've seen people who pirated all their music switch to iTunes simply because it became a smoother process.
An interesting case is the PC version of Max Payne 3 and how pirates managed to cut down on the download size compared to the official digital version. MP3 on PC is like 35GB partly because it has so many audio languages. Torrents for the game from what I hear give you the option to download just one language, significantly decreasing the size of the download.
Lastly you've got the issue of markets. Some people might live in much poorer countries were far fewer people can afford the local official price. Some might live in countries where the game isn't available at all, or is censored, so they gotta get around region locking. Then you've got Australia where people deal with those issues and having to pay like $90 for the standard edition.
The only times I've ever pirated or cracked PC games are when I didn't want to have to insert the disc every time I played my legit retail copies of COD4 and Crysis, and when that Deus Ex Human Revolution preview build got leaked. Playing about 30 minutes of that pirate preview build convinced me to pre-order the game.
Of course you've also got people who are just addicted to getting games for no money, but it's different for everybody.
How does this compare to previous Football Manager games? On the topic of Piracy not affecting sales.....

If it's the one I think you're talking about, he bought the game, but got antsy and downloaded it early so that he could play it before his key unlocks on Tuesday.
Not exactly the same thing as straight up stealing the game, to be fair.

I'm glad you have such high opinion of pirates.
People in any of the WD threads seem to not* care about letting people know they pirated the game. A lot of Juniors are doing it, they are so open with it that I kinda wonder if it's not bannable to admit that you pirate on gaf anymore.
Posts like, "I've been playing it for a while, and while it runs ok on my PC I'm getting the 360 version since I'm used to console gaming. PC has nice graphics though. I'll probably buy it on PC later down the road."
Who said this was a virus? Maybe its Ubisoft's way of making piracy profitable?
So you admit to piracy? That's silly. There is a review out there for every major release and a simple Google search will give you fps results for your hardware or something close. There is zero reason to pirate besides I want something free.
Content can be bought in almost all cases even if out of region.
