What's that streak of white that flashes momentarily on her hairline? Is that some glitch?

Noticed how his forearm plate reflects her as she walks by. Amazing!

I don't think they have to worry. Some of the later weapons are going to be shockingly brutal lol.

Even the most basic weapon needs to feel useful and impactful, though. RE 4 did that perfectly, but a lot of third person shooters since have dropped the ball.

The sacrificing of gameplay for cinematics is really going to hurt this game. Calling it now, this game will be reviewed as an interesting but short game that has little replay value. The overall verdict will be that it is worth a rental but nothing more.

The thing that those who focus on story over gameplay fail to realize is that while a very enjoyable experience can be made with a strong story focus, people don't pay $60 to watch a movie or TV. This is a version of the same trap that Microsoft fell into. The only thing that justifies the high cost of a gaming system is the gameplay. Once you start sacrificing the latter for the former you enter into a different market that will only bear a much smaller cost.

Who is doing that? Is this in your head, or have they said they were going to do this?

So far, the game play looks pretty damn good. The only flaws noticeably worth complaining about is the screen tearing. Anything else, would be a little bit premature without deeper hands on. AI will be tuned to the end of production, as well as guns etc.

If folks think this is "boring" gameplay then they are in for a lot of disappointment this generation. There just isn't a lot of room left to do something truly unique and original and execute it well without it becoming gimmicky.

It takes years to put things like this together, gamers blow through it in a weekend and complain all the way. I guess it's another reason to be concerned about the future of the industry. Gamers want new experiences, and that's fine, but even when a developer is trying to infuse lots of original ideas into an established formula it gets dismissed out of hand.

Wow it looks incredible, The atmosphere seems it will be intense aswell, Love the little visual details like the reflection on his forearm plate when she walks by, Incredible attention to detail, Those weapons just seem so badass.

All in all much better footage and delays happen so let's hope they can fix out the concerns people have reported.

The Last of Us, Uncharted, God of War, and InFamous say Hi.

I haven't played all those games but are you trying to claim that the gameplay in The Order looks as good as say Infamous, or God of War?

The problem that The Order has is the close integration between cinematic pieces and the action. It appears that they are trying to make that transition more often then in other games. However what that does is that it tightly constrains the choices that the player can make when they are in control, because if it isn't then the next cinematic wont line up. It is going to lead to the feeling that you are along for the ride rather than being in control.

Based on the footage, even the damn pistol packs a huge punch. Just look at their reactions to the shots.

Looks like amazing attention to detail to me. Like really old film footage that has scratches/dirt on it?

That's INSANE, holy shit!

Graphically this game leaves everything released and to be released and has been shown in the dust.

We have seen 5 mins of the game , i sure they will be times when there is nothing but game play for a while .
Just like TLOU and UC even if R@D wants to blend things together better than any other game .

I highly suggest people read the excellent CVG Hands-On preview. It even has an illuminating interview with one of the RAD people.

Also, my goodness at those gifs.

To be fair you haven't played the order either. You could go to youtube and search for some small gameplay clips of the games you haven't played from that list and tell us how the narrative/cinematic pieces of those games affect the whole.

Edit: To be clear, saying the gameplay of the order looks not as good as infamous or god of war is subjective and valid. The rest of what you said, not so much.

Actually that is a bad example. Most of the hits don't actually register it is only the killing shot that causes a reaction animation. That is the one thing that stands out from all the footage.

This game is certainly the closest thing to CG I've ever seen. The way the camera moves is also very impressive, super fluid. Fantastic work by RaD

Seems to me that what players want is more open worlds not corridor shooters. The challenge for developers is how to offer up the kind of story driven plots in such an environment. The idea of a 'game or AI director' is the way to go. It adapts the world and the gameplay based on what the player is doing. The future is procedural gameplay not highly scripted events.

On top of that, adding in more ways for players in single player environments to seamlessly interact or affect other players is important. This is actually a continuation of the prior point since the best dynamic experience a player can have in an open world is interacting with other players. The challenge here is to limit that interaction so that the player gets as many of the benefits of that interaction without the drawback.

Didn't notice this before but you could be right. I hope they fix this. I thought the other shots were thermite shots from either his gun or the other players, whilst he delivered only the pistols main bullet shots.

I can only go by the gifs cause my internet is being crap but the first guy hunches over a bit from being shot and the last guy stops moving. Being killed just causes the biggest reaction. Do they need to have grimaces n their faces too? I don't think they are perfect but its a start. What is it being compared to?

Where did get you this idea that everyone wants more open world games .
I am sorry i want games of all types and with TLOU selling 6 million it seems so do other players .
