Destiny PS4 Timed Exclusives will last until "At least Fall 2015"

I'll say again: There's no reason to whitewash and create a false equivalency here.

Knowing the history matters. Saying "both did, it's all the same" is a simplification that doesn't do us any good.

The fact of the matter is that, to stay competitive in a market where your competitor is buying exclusive time for the biggest franchises in the industry (Elder Scrolls, Fallout, GTA, Call of Duty) they absolutely HAD to do the same. There is no way around it.

It's bullshit, it's a bad practice, and it likely doesn't benefit anyone in the long run. But I'm not about to pretend that everything is equal.

Think this sums it up pretty well. I think we all like to believe that Sony could have just sat on their hands and let MS have every piece of exclusive content and games and went about their business and only focused on WWS and been successful. Truth is, they probably would have got destroyed if they did that. Closest example we have of a company doing just that is Nintendo and well...umm...

Because many times the platform holder will pay for the development of the extra content.

Content that might otherwise not be developed due to the extra expense.

Sure it's timed, but eventually even X1 owners will enjoy the content. So that's how.
So you're saying that were it not for Sony buying in, that this map would not be released at some point to both platforms at the same time, maybe even on day one?

If Sony paid for its development, why does the Xbox get it at all?

You see something that wouldn't have existed without Sony, and I see something that (in this instance) Sony paid for in order to keep Xbox gamers from playing. We've seen the same thing on the MS side, paying to delay COD DLC to Sony platforms.

No gamer ends up as the winner, or with a better product. Not that I've seen anyway.

Why? Most of us die-hard Bungie fans are also Halo fans as well and have to take it into account. All I really play these days is the odd multiplatform, blockbuster or Halo. I was worried about Halo for a bit, but no way in hell am I missing out on the MCC.

Now of course the best version of Destiny is one PS4, but if I can't support both consoles and I'm also a Halo fan, the logical step would be Xbox One. How can any Bungie or Halo fan also not be excited to play Halo CE/2/3 in 1080p/60FPS on dedicated servers. I can't wait to see what Halo 3 looks like with the res boost, and how dedicated servers and 60 fps affect the netcode and movement.

This year will be interesting, will really tell if most of us are Bungie fans, Halo fans, or both.

You can still be a bungie fan and own an Xbox one, you are still getting the game. No reason to get upset over stupid content that isn't important. I am a COD fan and buy them all on Playstation, yet Xbox gets all the DLC before PS.

Nintendo has struggled with third party looooooooooong before any of this stuff even began.

Haven't really heard any good impressions about Destiny PvP from people I've played Halo with over the years. Heard good things about the other modes the game offers, but reactions from those people to PvP have been "meh" at best.

I guess the same could be said for the other games as well. "Meh" doesn't really hold ground as the game isn't out yet and the true competitiveness has yet to reach its height, but everyone's entitled to their own opinion I guess.

I guess from the point of Sony it is aimed at fence-sitters and potential buyers than it is the established userbase.

there's no exclusive content with AC Unity, meanwhile Far Cry 4 gets that exclusive co-op -even if friend doesn't have the game- mode on PS4.

I though the AC demo during MS said DLC first on XboxOne? Um not sure on that. I could;ve sworn it said that on the scroll at the bottom of demo screen

The Far Cry stuff to me seems like more of a glorified demo you give away. If it was anything more than that they wouldnt let you give it to 10 people. Probably lets you play for 30 minutes or something like that.

The Destiny DLC i kinda feel mad about just because its BUngie and you've got so many people on Xbox that bought every single one of their games. Ayear is a long wait.

On the other hand though, if this is the true MMO its being made out to be, 1 map and a few guns shouldnt make that much of a difference since this game is supposed to have so much depth. Either way ill still be getting it on Xbone and ill be able to play with all my friends with no gripes.

I don't see how that's important. My point was, naturally, regarding the birth of exclusive DLC, not marketing deals.
Eh… its important when one is suggesting that one company is "better" than the other in terms of making timed exclusive deals period. Isolating it to DLC only doesnt make either look any better or worse IMO.

Exclusives are awful. That seems way too long

Its basically publishers saying "lol thanks for your money but so and so company paid us off so you get less".

Even as a ps4 owner, fuck that shit. I hated it with COD last gen on ps3. I paid 60 too, same as 360 peeps, why do i have to wait a month for maps?

Go for content parity but maximize each console's power graphically. NOT vice versa.

And people used to complain about MS getting CoD exclusives or any exclusive content. That only lasts 2-3 months top but a whole year? LOL.

It's really not. It's a completely irrelevant point.

I know the World Cup is going on and all, but moving goal posts is not cool, man :p

Arkham Asylum was 2009 and had the Joker challenge maps DLC. Regardless of who started what, this is all just marketing fluff that each company uses to try to distinguish themselves from the other. I don't think there's anything inherently right or wrong about it.

I find it hard to give a damn when Xbone got insomniac and respawn for entire game exclusives.

Except Insomniac said they asked around, only Microsoft was willing to fund the game for them and let them keep their IP. But hey, let's not let facts get the in the way of fanboyism. This isn't Microsoft paying to keep Sunset Overdrive exclusive, this is Microsoft being the only reason Sunset Overdrive is even being made.

Just like they're paying Platinum Games to make a game for their console. The situations aren't comparable at all. As for TitanFall, Respawn said they reached out to Sony and Sony wasn't receptive to them. In the end, EA signed a deal with MS

So? Sony is helping fund destiny by paying them money for exclusive content. It's the same logic of money given and product rendered. MS just payed more obviously.
It's really not the same thing at all. In the case of Sunset Overdrive MS is providing money that allows Insomniac to actually make the game. In the case of Destiny Sony is paying money to wall off content in a game that would have been made with or without said money.

Seems dumb on Bungie's part if true. Assuming enough Xbox gamers are still playing Destiny a year after release and enjoying it enough to pay for a new map and weapon skins is incredibly presumptuous. I can only assume the dlc will be free on Xbox or sent out to die on Xbox when 2015 rolls around. It's certainly not a plan based on maximizing profitability.

No, it's shitty, but you were acting like it didn't make sense from a business perspective.

Every Destiny add is a PS4 add. Every Destiny add tells you that if you wan't the full game, get it on PS4. The majority of people who are going to be seeing those adds will not have a PS4 or XB1, these systems are still extremely young, so the idea that people will already have their mind made up on which version to get is not true.

I don't think you give people enough credit. Just because the advertisement is a PS4 one, doesn't mean that people don't know that it's also coming to xbox one. Some people will buy a PS4 because of this but, not enough to make it worth while.

But if it can be removed from the game with the story still making sense, its probably not hugely important. Ya not having a strike blows, but if Destiny is as massive as its supposed to be, its negligible.

Still fucked up, dont get me wrong.

Could be a pay it back deal similar to Pub Fund games. Here's X amount of money to make exclusive content for our platform, it can be outsourced if you like, it can come to other platforms after this amount of time, but only if you pay us back Y amount of money.

Of course this is all theoretical, and likely may not be what happened at all. lol

MS help fund those games that otherwise would be vaporware so yeah, they should be exclusive to them.

Oh please if you believe Titanfall wouldn't have been made without Microsoft's "help", then i have a bridge to sell you, and please don't bring up that Geoff Keighley fluff piece.

Destiny has a $500mil budget. I doubt whatever money Sony gave them was to help fund the game. It was more likely to just get the content first on their platform.

Yep. Console bundle, exclusive DLC, early beta/alpha access. I'm sure there'll be PS advertisements that will similarly show this around mid-late August. It's gonna give it a significant boost.

Lol..

And some think, all of this is without a money hat.
If MS did this, GAF would be up in arms.

No they would both not be vaporware. Titanfall was coming out regardless and Insomniac could have published the games through another publisher that would have let them keep the IP. In each case (destiny dlc and xbone exclusives) money is exchanged to keep an existing product off another set of consoles.

Edit: Whatever this is OT. Let's get back to being outraged about a rumor from amazon.

You mean like titanfall? Except that was a whole game.

Btw, Titanfall is ready for a "where are they now" already. That game vanished SO fast from the conversation.

There are not a lot of options for them to maintain IP rights. EA allows this, which they used...and we got fuse. Not surprising that they would seek another partner
