May Watch Dogs 2 be the new Assassin's Creed 2!

A sequel where instead of fixing the problems of the game, they just make it a generic open world game and throw a lot of side content? Well, I guess it worked with AC1 where instead of fixing the problems such as the actual missions and combat, they just threw a lot of crap in to the game and people eat it up.

Watch Dogs was garbage, but of course it sold well. I can't blame anything, because even I feel for the hype.

Man, PS4 is killing it.

Yes, exactly this happened and people strangely loved it.

That's the second time I've seen that pic being used for any (imo deserved) Watch Dogs criticism.

First, was against me :p
It's a strange position to hold. Finding the sales of a game as "unfortunate"? People shouldn't act like their opinion on a certain product is the final word on it, let folks buy and enjoy whatever they want.

There are a lot of games I don't like at all but have been happy they're successful. cantwealljustgetalong.jpg

I agree :)!

Agreed. I mean, we're all gamers, right? Shouldn't we all be wanting video games to thrive and be successful?

Hacking mode was pretty fun, and the core stealth mechanics were really easy to use, and master. If they integrate MP modes more tightly with the campaign and the story missions like in the E3 reveal for the sequels that would be amazing to see.

This % of sales breakdown seems a bit disastrous for Microsoft. 360 went down massively in favor of PS4, and Xbox One doesn't even edge out the PS3. Both of Microsoft's platforms put together don't even match PS4 alone and this is early evidence that Sony overall may be controlling about 50% of the console game market. Hardware numbers are good to have, sure, but this is much more interesting and telling. Those are the real numbers they care about.
While that's true, both AC and Watch Dogs were heavily marked almost exclusively for PlayStation.

Sure, it's undoubtedly paying off for Ubi, but might be inaccurate for drawing market share conclusions.

Sure, but it's never been this lopsided, even with with exclusive marketing. CoD Ghosts for example had exclusive X1 advertising, and was treated as such yet the Ps4 version still sold more.

Don't take my post so seriously.

Of course everyone's entitled to their opinion - I'm not dismissing anyone's valid criticisms. I could list many problems with the game (primarily the story), I just think overall it's far from a *bad* game.

I try not to but whenever someone uses the term "Haters gonna hate", it usually follows by a broad brushstroke as a means to write them off. It's not a very good excuse to use in any context because it is just a convenient placeholder in favor of a more substantial rebuttal.

The game sold good, but that is not the main contention of this franchise. It's the fact that Ubisoft can can get away with shady marketing practices and having consumers vindicate them because it "sold" well - which of course ends up paving the way for more questionable consumer-ethics in the foreseeable future.

On this subject, I was at the park yesterday and on the pathway, written is purple chalk, was a huge Watch Dogs and the logo. I was like, WTF? No joke. lol

Yeah very happy with Watchdogs even though I bought it on PC first and then because of the stutter I bought the PS4 version which was great.

Now the stutter is better with 'Theworsemod' I'm playing it again on PC.

It's evidence that the game had a lot "next gen hype" and that the Playstation marketing was effective.

The "next gen hype" helped in terms of PS4 sales too since the PS4 was the cheapest new system to play the game.

It wasn't the cheapest in Europe based off all the Xbox 1 sales. But now that they are the same price I'm sure sales will be equal.

I find this the most interesting out of all of it.

Wii no longer accounts for any significant portion of Ubisoft sales even though as recent as last year it accounted for 10% [Probably Just Dance mostly???]

Wii U seems to account for an insignificant amount of Ubisoft sales albeit I doubt there were many to begin with on the platform

Assuming the PC category includes digital which I assume it does because that's far too high for physical only then it makes up a little more than a quarter of Ubisofts sales and consoles [X360, PS3] make up about 52% of their sales. Also I wonder if this is unit sales and not revenue percentages as I'm curious what the average value each sale represents for the varying platforms.

PS4 is dominating Ubisoft sales so the co-marketing deal certainly seems to have helped

Vita is dead dead dead

You need to move your cursor to see the breakdown of other years. For example the most dominant Wii year

This is also super interesting. Thanks

I have not played the game, but really nothing about what I've seen from the game or the response seems to warrant sales like that.

Did they say anything interesting in the call?

Of the overall sell-through data of WD, PC represented 10-12% - of which 70% were digital.
PS4\XB1 digital share of is 10%, with the XB1 being a bit more than 10% and the PS4 a bit less than 10%.

The digital share for 360\PS3 is only 3 to 5%.

Digital copies are bought more in the US than in Europe.

They'll talk about 360/PS3 Assassin's Creed "soon".

Thanks, new thread here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=852742

This I think I might also copy into a new thread. We rarely get this data.

Fun game.
Will buy sequel (Since 2's are always better).
Would like them to take success and make diverse character who's more compelling, interesting, relatable and with more life (Because Aiden was the worst ubisoft character to date with his faux Batman voice).

enormously undeserved.

never played a big budget video game so uninspiringly designed.

Yup, agreed. Well, the bright side is that it shows that new big-budget IPs can do very well, so maybe we'll see more of them.

But PS4 at 36% and XB1 at 17% is kinda shocking. It was obvious that they'd have sold more on PS4 overall, but more than double? Ubi even had an XB1 exclusive ready for launch (Fighter Within)

Congratulations Ubisoft. I am enjoying Watch Dogs. I am happy Ubi is making money - hopefully they can fund other titles like Child of Light and Valiant Hearts: The Great War. They are also one of the few big companies that makes games for Vita. As a consumer I prefer Ubisoft to EA or Activision. Looking forward to Far Cry 4 and the Division.

Well it does show the power of marketing and hype. I feel no need to contribute to the Ubisoft AAA sales with my money. Rather spend $20 each on three lesser hyped games.
