I must say I am quite in love with the beta, for now. (I'm lvl 6, played the first 5 missions and some coop). The gameplay feels good, and the sense of exploration is wonderful. Let me go on the moon, dammit !

Enemy IA and diversity seems great, also. I've enjoyed every encounter thus far, despite the classic "enemy waves" formula. The level design has always made each fight interesting.

Also, I made a gif

Quick question, just completed the ancient recording mission and the choice of reward is between a machine gun and rocket launcher.

Is the rocket launcher any good? I haven't been very impressed with either the shotty or the sniper and don't want to end up with another dud...

Ahh, I was just referring to the characters themselves (i.e. faces), not so much the gear. I meant the gear is the thing that really changes you in this game, so they shouldn't worry about a "plastic surgeon" messing with persistent player identity like you might with an MMORPG.

Haha, oh. I can see that, though I can't imagine it would be that difficult to implement and I'm sure there are some people that are more particular about their character's face even if it's rarely even seeable.

Especially since you have to go through that intro after making someone to even see what they look like ingame compared to that background.

Normally I'd agree, but in the case of this beta what we got is really just a demo, so all that would be doing is save us replaying those what, 4 intro missions. I wouldn't mind.

Same here, this is in no way a beta just like the alpha wasn't an alpha at all... People that want to start fresh can just create a new char or delete theirs, just saying. Besides beta available to all, I didn't even use my amazon codes, and although I preordered on PSN us store (so essentially paid for the game) my beta access came through euro psn trick, so anyone and I mean ANYONE that wants to play this on Playstation can.

Machine gun is more versatile, but the rocket launcher is a destroyer of closely grouped enemies.

I'd say go with the machine gun, it has more ammunition and you can use it way more often than the rocket launcher. It chews through enemies like a hot knife through butter.

Excellent, many thanks.

There is no even playing field, I was lvl8 the night the beta came, you think we won't see lvl15 and such on release day? :)

It only took me 3 hours to get to level 8 and I wasn't even trying, rather worrying regarding game length if you ask me.

It is, I'm pretty sure I won't be playing the game 2 months after release but I don't doubt I'll get my money's worth. Besides I got nothing to play on consoles (waiting for TLOU)

The level cap is 20 and you're meant to reach it in a day.

It's about loot, not a number on your emblem.

Some people don't like the loot endgame and there better be shit tons of loot, cause so far it's pretty poor in the beta.

I went with rocket launcher cause of old Halo vibes but regret it. Should have went machine gun from the start.

Machine gun will get you many more kills, with the ammo provided from drops. Especially in mp. Snipers are great(at least the one I have is), but my shotty has no range but destroys up close. Probably just a problem with the betas lack of content.

I love rocket launcher. It make me feel like I have 3 superb to use when I get its ammo in PvP.

Also, since I think you're a warlock, their super pretty much serves as a free shot of a rocket launcher anyway so they already have solid crowd control potential.

I am indeed a warlock. The nova bomb is a beast, but it takes ages before you can use it again.

I don't mind though, especially now that I've got a cool new main weapon and the machine gun. Also noticed that I can upgrade weapons, something I hadn't noticed before, so that's cool.

It is a bit disappointing the rocket launcher doesn't seem to be up to much. As you mentioned, I only really considered it because of how much of a beast it was in Halo, glad I asked before choosing.

I don't doubt there will be more dynamic events in the game but why can't they randomize the type and numbers of Mobs brought by the flying ships?

What's the best way to grind for new gear? Demon's Lair at level 8?

Probably. You'll get engrams that often give items that you won't be able to wear (i.e. level 9+ req.) but the mission rewards itself should be wearable and are the top tier of what you can get and actually equip in the beta.

  • Hit detection is wonky. People will die a full second after you've melee'd or sniped them in the face. I've wasted a Golden Gun shot several times thinking the guy didn't die, but it was just lagging behind.

Do we know where the servers are located or if it's P2P? I'm in Australia and the kill lag is often up to a couple of seconds.

I'm not really digging the game so far.

I'm a lvl 5 hunter.
The gameplay is ok, but my main issue is that there have been too many times in which I had no idea what I had to do or where I had to go.
Your minimap always shows which direction to go and the touchpad gives even more precise waypoints. The game tells you, at all times, precisely where to go.
In the level selection screen (ie, Earth, Moon, etc.) I have no clue what missions I have played and what not, and I don't know what are story missions and what not.
I find it quite weird that they don't tell you which missions you've completed (at least I haven't seen any of that). You just have to keep track of that yourself for the time being. They do tell you which activities are story missions and the recommended level to play them.

While playing a mission, the objective description is too short and many times provides barely no information.
I was once playing a mission in which I had to "scout" something. No idea how to do that. There was a progression percentage that seemed to me it was randomly increasing. I had to leave because I had no idea how to finish that.
The others are pretty straightforward but scouting had me scratching my head in the alpha for a while. You are supposed to stand precisely in the objective location (usually in a vantage point like a rooftop) "scouting" the area. You don't have to engage any enemies.

I don't understand the "even playing field" response from those who want character wipes.

By the time I'm able to play the game there will be players at level 15+ as I make my character again. Crucible normalizes PVP damage so what are people afraid of exactly?

I've never really gotten into shooters a lot, I really need to relax while playing, noticed in PvP I go very rigid and use too much force on my controller. Died numerous times because I'll Aim Down Sights while moving forward, but accidentally click in the left analog so I'll break my Aiming/Shooting and start sprinting towards the enemy ><.

Yeah, not only that, but also the beta is short, besides having the missions ticked off and getting to level 8 hardly anything you can do will matter once you hit level 9 or 10, and you can do all that stuff in a day.

The only people who would be 'disadvantaged' would be people who didn't get to the beta, and with all the extra codes floating around and the ability to share saves between generations that really doesn't leave many people behind.

With all that being said, there's nothing even remotely close to a dealbreaker if the progress doesn't end up carrying over. If you look at it from the other perspective, all that's going to be 'lost' is about 6 levels and the necessity to do the few story missions. You will easily be able to grind all the levels back up using missions locked out from the beta. So I guess it's not really that big a deal.

I agree on that end.

Though to me, I would prefer it considering all the XP burn we're all experiencing. Some of these bounties and stuff all give a ton that we aren't getting, and if the game 'counted' that we would shoot way ahead, and if it didn't count that it would be a massive waste.

So how much content is actually in this beta ?. I've done a few story missions and now theres some multiplayer pvp. When the pvp unlocks, is that all the story stuff for the beta done, or is there more to unlock ?

I've still been using bounties to level up new weapons I find instantly.

I always make sure that when I turn in a bounty, everything I have equipped isn't already fully upgraded unless I don't have anything new.

Yes, the info in the minimap is what I expected to see there.
But the objective description you see after pressing the touchpad is very short, and sometimes the objective change mid-mission and I think that's not properly communicated.

Yup, a big ommision there.

LOL, so that was it. :D

To be fair I've been playing on PS3 all day and it looks pretty fucking awful graphically. Like, really really bad, nowhere close to the footage I've been watching of the game up to now from the PS4 version. If the game wasn't as good as it goddamn is I wouldn't touch it.

Breaking news: Last gen does not look like the PS4 footage we've been seeing all along.

I'll be genuinely shocked if even the XB1 footage looks the same. But 360/PS3? Come on now. This cross-gen shit has got to stop already.

There will undoubtedly be high level players within days of release. But are the levels accelerated in the beta? That may be why people are capping in hours.

They had said previously IIRC that you can reach the level cap of 20 in a mater of 'a few days' so I'm sure you level pretty quick in the full version too. They also said that the point of the game wasn't to be a level grind but to focus on the moment to moment play or something like that.

Don't think so, otherwise you'd have to repeat Story Missions to get enough level for the next ones. Right now it seems pretty smooth, curve-wise.

There's a fan on the roof of one of the buildings, if someone's standing on it they go flying up a bit.
