All PS Now games available in open beta

Rented Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 for 3.99 for 7 days, which seems reasonable to me (as I plant to beat the game in that time-frame and never touch it again).

The experience went really well. I completed up to the first opening boss. There was very little input lag, if at all. I tested the movement in game quite a bit, and it was very slight whenever I was looking for it. I would definitely not play a fighter with this but Bionic Commando was very playable and I didn't feel inhibited by the streaming at all.

As for the video quality, I play fairly close to a monitor. I could clearly tell it was being streamed but the quality all in all was pretty impressive. Video compression is only really evident when your looking at static images or standing still. It was pretty easy to forget that I was streaming a game when I played the game because the compression was not noticeable.

I hope Sony adds more RPG titles, because I would love to rent some.

7 days should be enough for mgs4? Always heard it was pretty long.

No kidding, there's A LOT of cutscenes. Have some popcorn or snacks ready. If you not in the mood for sitting and watching/listening to exposition for up to 30 minutes at a time... this isn't the game for you. If you haven't already or familiar with MGS1-3, this is not the game for you.

Gameplay-wise is pretty fun, I think 7 days is probably plenty of time to get through the game. When I played it I was a big MGS fan and I was very motivated/captivated by playing it and wanted to finish it. I think I went through it in 3 days. Two of those days where the weekend where I just played/watched all day.

If you have that kind of time and patience to "soak in" the entire game you can do it.

Alternatively, if you have a PS3 just go to GameStop and buy it used and you can return it within 7 days for a full refund.

The one suggestion I would make is make the 4 hour rental Game Time. Not real time.

I just got in and looked for the first game I wanted. Zone of the Enders collection.

$4.99 for 4 hours.

Damn you Konami. Should of guessed.

I would easily pay those prices to play MGS Collection and MGS4 on PS4 before MGSV hits if it was my only option and if it was available here.

Not a bad way to test Catherine if you are unsure if you are going to like.

That is less that what I would be charged to rent games in the past (excluding the 4h option, that is just silly the way it is right now), sure not that many games on the list that I like but its a decent solution for the lack of backwards compatibility. Persona 5 should show be put on this service and to strengthen this year lineup of games on PS4.

4 hours option should be played time.

I really hope their thinking is that by setting the prices so high they can keep bringing them down, since price increases are never well received. Not touching anything PS Now at the moment.

Final Fantasy 7?
Castlevania: SOTN?
Resident Evil 1, 2, 3?
Soul Reaver?
Blood Omen?
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance?
Champions of Norrath?
The first few GTA games?
No 2K or EA Sports games?

...where are these games at?

Nah, I'm not going to pay for this. Sony can comeback with a new strategy for this. Nine of those games are first party and that's a damn shame. They don't give even their best in this service to give it a bigger push.

If Sony wants this pay-by-title business model to succeed, they (and the publishers of the games available in PSNow) need to realize that older games (think 2+ years) need to beat, let alone match, the going retail price. Otherwise, the convenience of digital streaming (which is not exactly confirmed at this point due to bandwidth caps, latency, etc.) will become decidedly less important than cheaper prices, even if that means buying something on eBay/Amazon or driving down to Gamestop.

It is readily apparent to me that the guys at Sony are not ready to make PSNow practical in terms of cost. I think this is going to stumble out of the gate, possibly never to recover unless Sony starts thinking like a customer.

You could buy the games cheaper sure, but if you don't own a PS3 how are you going to play them?

If you have a PS3 why would you stream the games to PS4 in the first place?

I got Way of the Samurai 3 30 day for 6.99 just to try the service out.

You can see some stream artifacting on things like scene transitions, and there's like 3 extra frames of lag which is fine and to be expected. I could totally play full length games with those minor inconveniences.

But what isn't fine every 5-10 minutes it would hiccup and I'd lose video for a split second, and then have choppy poor quality video for a few more seconds, and then it'd catch up back to normal. I guess that's not too surprising considering they can't really put a buffer on it, but it's really not a fun thing to deal with.

welp just played about a half hour of MGS4 over the internet and it was pretty good! video quality wise it looks great. You don't really notice that there's compression or anything unless you sit really close to the screen. There was no perceptible lag to me, but I am not very sensitive to that sort of thing.

My biggest disappointment? There doesn't seem to be any surround sound support which is a huge bummer for me =(

Just to be sure, if I pay a rent using a PS4 I can play anything there, doesnt matter the platform, right? I think I'm gonna try Ninja Gaiden 3.
Edit: Never mind... I just double checked what GrayDock told me, and yeah, its impossible to even access it from Brazil with a NA account... damn it.

Rented doa5 for 4 hours no input lag or visual degradation that I notice I have a 50 up 50 down connection. Do you still get trophies cause I got 3 and it did not show in my progress on ps4

Ughh... I tried the 4-hour rental of Way of the Samurai 3. It's convinced me to buy a physical copy or the PSN version whenever it's on sale. Not that's it's unplayable, but I don't see myself paying for a limited streaming license of a single game.

I think the video quality sucks :/ I'm not sure if its the game or the streaming though. I have a 50/30 connection. Also during play, I keep getting notifications that I'm getting messages or friends are joing my party, but when I go to check my inbox it's empty.

And while we're on mgs4, this is the first time I'm playing it. I've played all the other mgs games, but this one just feels way different than the others so far. It's a really strange feeling.

This is taken from the overview of rentals.

But it only mentions needing to sync to show them on PS3. Maybe something is broken?

I would much rather stream the ps3 version of Contrast for $12 for 90 days than buy the full ps4 version for $15..

So the rental period continues even when you're not playing, correct?

So theoretically someone could start a 4 hour rental then two minutes in be hit by a 4 hour blackout and lose out on their rental?

You have to sync trophies on the PS Now server through the server's XMB. You're basically playing on a mini PS3, so the limitations are similar, like no auto-syncing trophies. Also, if you have PS+ you can download saves to the PS Now server from cloud storage.

While this service is in its early stages, I guess it suits best certain genres.

As time goes on, and it gets better, you can throw fighting games in there too hopefully.

No. The timer starts when you start the game.

I am Korean.
Final Fantasy 13 is 7.99 for 30 days.

I've never played any FF games in my 30 or so years of gaming, but I've always been interested in trying. I've never seen one that cheap either in stores so to me this is a great price. I don't know what used game prices are like in the US. But in Canada, I'm ok with some of these PSNow prices. I really am.

You'll forever taint your perception of the series with this move.

I would change the model to full subscription per month.
Sony or publishers had to differentiate games into several tiers based on genres.

Ultimately, you would have unlimited playtime, but you can play only in the tier you pay for.

The pricing is not supposed to be as expensive as buying it new. :S

No. The timer starts when you start the game.

I think they meant that if they start the game and then there's some kind of power outage does the time continue...yes, it does

Once the buyer starts the game the timer is on...it goes by real time not game time

its possible not everyone thinks the pricing is absurd?

Nonsense! I'm a gamer! I am supposed to be cheap and entitled to playing games for free dammit!

Yeh prices are fine to me except a few games which are influenced by the publisher. A lot of cool shit though. I'll def, get critter crunch for 90 days for just 7 bucks. The 5.99 for 7 day games are perfect. Exactly the price it should of been.

I will use the 4 hour sometimes just to sit back with a game for a night and throw it away again until I want to play. Perhaps RPGs could have better options but I expect things to change over time

Prices are fine if you want to play the game fully through and get it for an appropriate time to do so. The low times like 4 hours are stupid, though.

Yo that's messed up if true. MGS4 deserves to be played with surround sound.

I mean, I didn't really notice any input lag and when I played it, it must have been very little. However, I just put that in about fighters because fighters are 60fps and are heavily reliant on precise input timings, where even the smallest of input lag could ruin the game.

Bionic Commando was perfectly playable for me. The controls didn't ruin my playtime with the game at all.

Aside from the 4 hour pricing, which I don't really see myself using, I plan on picking up several titles through the 7 day feature when the library expands a bit.

Hang on, its 4 hours real time, not game time? Wtf lol

So I basically pay the money and have to hope I don't need a shit or get hungry or I'm wasting part of my time. Amazing.

why would you ever do the 4 hour one though? just pay a couple more bucks and get the 7 day option which is much more reasonable.

people act as if the 4 hour is the only option

Wow some of these games are $4 for 90 days. I was really expecting a lot worse from this thread. There are very few (that I've checked) $50 for 90 days things.

This crap will be great for people who usually rent games or buy new then sell used anyway. Due to the low replay value of a lot of these titles you could easily get your fill on a $4-$8 90 day rental and actually have it for way longer than you normally would.

edit:

Fuck off with these PS3 games.

How about that?

It's gonna be okay, man. I don't know what those PS3 games did to you, but you're gonna make it through this.
