Rumor: MS cuts the XO price to 349,99€

I think £200 might be the tipping point...

Yeah..right into Xbox division bankruptcy (technical, not actual)

This console needs as short a lifespan as possible, it's been a mistake from day one

MS should just cut their losses and bring a true next gen machine to market in 2-3yrs time, still x86 based to ensure BC but free of all the Don Mattrick baggage that's been so disastrous for the entire brand.

Yeah, sometimes looks like total control over a market is the only thing that matters. What about a significant market share guys? I'm pretty sure that's exactly what MS is after here, not winning Europe.

Even if we take out the "dominate or bust" mentality they're leaking what little marketshare they had made with the Xbox 360.

MS in Europe feels more a gesture of presence than taking marketshare akin to their presence in Japan.

Off course Microsoft could have something else but we know what Turn 10, Black Tusk Studios and 343 is working on.
They could of course start to buy games / studios which would cost them a lot of money. And this would not be so popular from there investors who have demanded that Xbox bussines should be sold of.
They should have bought THQ when they had the change.

Which is exactly why it's hyperbole to assume that Microsoft have shown the entirety of what they have in production, especially only one year into a generation, and when all competitors have identified that they've either created brand internal new studios, or formed exclusive relationships with existing ones.

The problem with the Xbone isn't the games, it's the console. It's very debatable, but I'm sure many would feel that the PS4 had the weaker launch lineup and has the weaker holiday season ahead. There's only feasibly so much that games can do to remedy the Xbone's fundamental weaknesses against its competitor. So, they cut it at the neck, offer the perception of a system at a lower-value than its competitor which can still play Fifa, COD, GTA, etc. and hope that their exclusive offerings will beat out the competition's. Where in this process, is there any bearing on the amount of games Microsoft have readying to chug out? I can't see it.

Here in Sweden Xbox One seems dead before it´s even released. Zero interest from the people where i work. The antique hardware could be a serious turn off i guess.

The only Xbox One sku i would personally be semi interested in is the following at €199:

- Xbox One with no kinect
- Halo 5
- A gamepad with a cord (for PC usage)

Even then i would think twice before getting it.

Checking the same retailer over different countries (fnac), it seems that in Portugal, a territory where it hasn't launched yet, there is a bundle for the launch with 2 games for the 400. Could be just a launch bundle or could be the price for bundles post drop to 350.

Wouldn't be surprised if this happens in Europe only. Phil knows that the desperately need to gain back what remains of their 360 users there, and technically, it will not be unfair to other regions like the US as 350 euros = 469 dollars
......so technically it will still be cheaper in the US.

Quick question, why are people expecting a console to be slightly more expensive than the Xbox 360 as it is currently being retailed?

Didn't buy a XB360 for any price and certainly will not do so for a XBOne.

Wow, whats with all the hate?
Its actually not a bad system....
And if you compare to PCs, both of the new consoles have rather weak hardware...

MS just can't seem to get the price balance as good as their system balance....I think £200 might be the tipping point...

Why would they ever sell for this price? You can go out and get a 360 bundle for slightly less than that.

Every day I read this forum, I begin to think more and more that some people's grasp on pricing is really far out of left field (see projected PSNow subscription pricing).

That was my personal opinion regarding the price.

It mostly reflect how uninteresting the whole product feels i guess. Inferior hardware with no interesting games other than Halo 5.

Personally this just screams panic to me. Every week it seems that MS are loosing more and more traction with the Xbone.

At this point I wonder if the Xbone is now so far behind a price cut may not even be enough. It just seems to me that people are gravitating (for whatever specific reason) to the PS4 more.

While I don't think it's reached the same stage as the WiiU where the general public just completely rejected the very concept the Xbone just isn't (anecdotally) capturing anyone's imagination.

There is no hate. Competition is great.

I´m only honest about how excited i am about the system and the people i talk to seem to feel the same.

I meant for me.

I was interested in Spark (but it's also on PC) then I wanted to play Dead Rising 3 and that's also coming out on PC. By the time it drops to £200 it might have a few games I need it for.

Have anything to actually say?

I dislike the games, the attitude, the company and what moves it. But I guess there will always be someone offended by preferences.

What he's trying to say is that no one cares about what you did or didn't buy in the past or future.

Call me a crazy person but I still want the Kinect SKU for the voice commands. 349€ would be assumable but 299€ is the sweet spot. I mean, being underpowered compared to the PS4 i should be able to buy it at a lower price.

Hate implies strong feeling.
The feeling he describes, that also applies to me, is not hate. It is...indifference.
Europeans en masse just don't give a shit about Xbone, and there are many reasons for that. MS's past behaviour and policies, weak hardware, forced Kinect until a month ago, TV focused E3...
Personally I do not know a single person who owns Xbox (any Xbox, not just Xbone). Everyone owns PC, and few people own PS3s. Central Europe here.

What hate? He just said that people in Sweden are not interested in the console but he might think about it if they would bundle it with a low enough price.

Another price cut? Let's be real here, that's just pathetic. All that confidence (theirs and mine), going out the window to a horrible death.

Price probably isn't even the problem.

There's a good reason why people are gravitating to PS4 vs. XBO: stability. PS4 follows the pricing trends you expect a strong system to follow, hasn't done insane things like bundle their biggest exclusive with the system just three months after launch, and has had a consistent schedule of AAA and indie games. It also hasn't 180'd on any major hardware features or vision.

MS's actions are only projecting weakness and desperation (as you said), and will probably do more harm than good. How many people honestly rushed out to buy a 32X, Jaguar or 3DO when they had their massive sudden price cuts?*

*Not saying XBO is anywhere directly on those lines of failure, but it's optics of relative failure are similar.

I'm holding out on re-buying until Gears 4... might be another price cut by that time at this rate lol.

You bothered to quote me and give me your opinion and were not the only one, so people do care. I posted my opinion related to the rumoured price drop for the XBOne because that's my standing as a gamer. Seems quite on topic.

I feel surprised by how many people are coming at me because I dislike their console of choice. To arms! And all that.

More a case of you not adding to the conversation, just go away.

OT: I wonder if they're not only waiting to announce this at gamescom, but that it's the white Sunset Overdrive bundle that is $350

Saying the console has antiqued hardware is hate. It's certainly not truth.

What numbers did we get from Germany for the Xbox One?

Remember that

PS4 2013 German YTD = 250,000
XB1 2013 German YTD = 100,000

Thus

PS4 2014 German YTD = 290,000
XB1 2014 German YTD = 70,000

PS4 leads with a 4:1 sales ratio against Xbox One that was at 399 or 450 euro better value for money, had the biggest game of the year and could be picked up right on the spot in any shop in Germany.

Conclusion: Xbox brand is DEAD in Germany (and probably in most of Europe where it has launched so far).

Shit-posting is not preferences breh

Or...what interesting discussion can we make from a comment like yours? enlighten me

I have told you why and you even quoted it. Shit-posting is your take on it. I simply said I hadn't bought a XB360 and would not buy a XBOne. Purchasing plans or lack thereof are hardly what you describe unless you see it as so.

Conclusion, hyperbole.

If XB1 sold 25k more than it has this year in Germany, it would be on the same lifetime track vs PS4 as 360 was with PS3 (i.e half).

If it was like, $100 a lot of people would get it just for exclusives (sunset overdrive is the only one I can think of other than indies that will also hit pc). At this point the price minus the value of current exclusives is the primary value of the console.

I wasn't on NeoGaf back in the early ps3 days when it ran most 3rd party games slightly worse than the 360, but can't help but wonder if people said the same sort of things about it back then?

I think years from now once next gen is here, we will look back to these early days of PS4/X1 and realize just how small the difference really was between the two consoles.

There is nothing wrong with playing 3rd party games on X1. Some people on here have this concept that you will somehow have less fun playing a game on X1 just because another version has a few more pixels, or slightly better AA, and that is simply ridiculous.

This isn't like a generation leap in difference ....Just like the PS3-360, I never could tell much difference in quality for most 3rd party games that were supposedly 'worse', and the same is true with the X1.

I hope for Microsoft that they get more sales because the system is really good, has many games i want. It's actually the system i'm gonna play the most this fall/winter because the games coming for it are better than PS4 imo (Sunset Overdrive, Halo MCC and Forza Horizon 2...). People on forums talk about the difference in hardware as if it was a PS3 vs PS1 difference, too much hate that is getting kinda old now.

There are many things the Xbox One does better than the competition, quality of controller and network stability are one of them. But to each his own i guess, i just hope we don't get a dominating PS4 because that wouldn't be good for the industry overall and i especially don't want to see a cocky Sony.

Say what you want about the Xbox One and Microsoft's shitty policy and u-turns, but don't say the console isn't offering good games because that's really ignorant. Killer Instinct, Forza 5, Crimson Dragon, Titanfall and the other multiplats are pretty good and it'll soon have much better things like Ori, MC Collection, Sunset, Forza Horizon 2, etc.

I have all three next-gen consoles and right now, the PS4 is the one I use less, even with the PS+ games.

Mar Nosso, I would quit while you're ahead/behind?? Not being interest in Xbox products at all is not relevant to the discussion of a price drop.

I still don't think this cut will move many systems in Europe unfortunately. A decent drop in NA, coinciding with a good bundle might though.

I think slightly worse is being kind. Thankfully devs got up to speed with the system later on.

Are you seriously trying to argue it is selling well in Germany?

Come on man. There hasn't been more than 2 XB1 games in the top 50 in the German charts for months iirc.
