You may want to double check, but I was under the impression that 012 includes a retelling of the original game as well after you beat the 012 story, so it might be worth it just to buy the one.

Doesn't the second Dissidia have the storyline of the first included in it? There's pretty much no point in getting the first game.

Edit: Dammit Baliis! Beaten.

Terrible advice u got.
Dissidia 012 also includes the first dissidia.

Yeah I discovered that myself a few minutes ago. Hadn't pulled the trigger yet on the first Dissidia, so crisis averted! Thanks all. :D

Also, are FF5 and FF6 more playable/enjoyable when using the Vita's Disc Load Speed option? Or are they still pretty much rubbish ports? :/

I can't find FF V on thr PS Vita store. Is this one if the games on the PS3/4 store and gotta transfer to Vita??

I can confirm i can download it via the download list on vita. Buy it on the webstore and then go to your download history on vita to get it.

I ended up buying a PSN code on Amazon, adding it to my wallet and then buying them. Good grief, Sony...

Chrono Cross
FF VIII
FM3

All my yissss

My FF PsOne collection is now complete.

This is my requisite post, as I make in all PSN FF sale threads, aiming to prevent anyone from making a terrible mistake like buying the SNES -> PS1 ports.

GAF, I need some assistance. What's the consensus on the PS1 ports of older FF games?

They're fucking awful. Three to five second load time just to open or close the menu. Twelve second load time to get out of a battle. Load times everywhere. Plus weird graphical glitches and issues, and super fucked-up incorrect music. It is indeed in actuality better to never play these games than to play them in this bastardized, gutted format.

EDIT: Let me clarify: the only titles I'm talking about here are FFV, FFVI, and Chrono Trigger. Origins is a nice adaptation of FFI+II without all the weird balance tweaks the later ports add (which improve FF2 but ruin FF1, IMO.) The IV complete collection is almost assuredly now the best way to play the "original" version of the game.

Secondly, can someone clearly indicate the key differences between the PSOne Classic version of Final Fantasy Tactics vs. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions?

War of the Lions replaces the ultra-crappy localization in the PSX version with a sweet, brand-new localization by Alexander O. Smith (of Vagrant Story/FFXII fame), reverts the balance changes in the US version of the PSX release, has brand new pen-and-ink-style animated cutscenes for important story beats, and has a little extra content, but the music is a little screwed up and it has annoying stuttering and slowdown when you cast most spells.

Picked up FFX/X-2 HD as I never got around to playing those back on PS2. I also grabbed FFT: War of the Lion so I can play that for the first time too.

Excited for some "new" FF to play, good timing SE.

Thanks, d/led on the webstore and then on PS Vita. Surprised Sony didn't have this in the PS Vita store. That thing needs a revamp soon. My FF collection is complete now. I will never buy another SE game on IOS. My god the touchpad controls are bad compared to the Ps Vita. FF games are perfect for thr PS Vita. Will do most of digital gaming on the PS vita now, woth the occasional IOS exclusive game. Now if only SE could port DQVIII to the Vita store along with all DQ iterations.

That's the line I was fishing for.

And thus, I continued on to buy Dissidia [012] which is in all shapes forms and fashions better than the original and is basically a scam that SE is still selling the OG Dissidia. And... FF9. Because why not and I already have FF8 and hated it. Fucking draw system...

You can easily play through Final Fantasy VIII without ever having to Draw a single spell. The last time I played it, I never used Draw other than to get Guardian Forces. The best part about Final Fantasy VIII is that its systems are so flexible that you can basically play the game however you want.

I don't remember FFVI being anywhere near as bad as.people claim on the PSX.

Now....Chrono Trigger...that's pretty bad yeah.

Hmm, duly noted! I'm leaning towards Origins, 3, 4 Complete Collection, and Way of the Lions. But having a gap between 4 and 7 will drive me bonkers. And I'm not about to drop dough on a GBA just to play the best versions. (At least, that's what I've heard. That the superior vesion of FF6 was on the GBA, but the music needed an overhaul to be enjoyable again.) Grumblegrumble. Idk. Part of me likes the idea of having them all in one location, on one piece of hardware. But I cannot deny that those issues you pointed out would probably drive me up the wall. Blah.

I have 3$ in my wallet, so I think I'm gonna buy Front Mission 3. I bought the PAL disc version a while ago but sold the game after playing it for like 3 hours because it didn't click with me. Gonna give it another chance. For 3$, I don't risk much.

EDIT: Bought.

Jump on X HD if you haven't, fantastic game and remaster.

XIII-3 not low enough for me. Need sub-$20. Can't resist experiencing the horror.

Might complete my 60Hz collection of the PS1 titles, actually.

PLEASE HELP ME VITA GAF.

I will be getting a Vita soon, and want to get Final Fantasy Tactics for it.

What's the benefit of choosing between PSone Tactics and PSP Tactics?

All I can remember is the magic FMVs on the PSP version were a little slow, that's about it.

And the story is stupid.
"Hey Sephier, I bet you don't have the guts to be evil."
"Oh yeah? I'll show you"
About an hour after that is where I stopped playing. During some flashback sequence. The environments looked... Above average =}. Best complement I can give, honest. Besides, it was confusing figuring out where to go. I'll complete it one day if someone bets me for a minimum of $100. But no one I know would put me through that hell.
Bought FFX HD, dunno why. I know I won't play FFX2 dammit.
Just try FFX-2. You may not like it, but you paid money for it. May as well confirm if you wasted it or not.
=D

Nah. Fuck it. I tried playing either 5 or 6 on mobile and literally everything about it agitated me. I don't even like 16-bit art style. In fact, I think it's inherently ugly. Battle system is dumb (only FFX has ever done TB right). I'll end up watching a Let's Play one day.

Lightning Returns was worth it at full price.

Tempted by LR...
I'll see if I can get it somewhere else first tho. I have the other two on disc so don't see a reason to break that...

Thinking for maximum diversity FFV, Duodecim, and FFT for Vita. Thats a lot of game for $20. FFX HD is tempting, but I only have a 16 gb card.

Last time the older FF's went on sale VI was the only one that didn't get a discount so this time around I just picked up VI. Now I can finally have FF1 through FFX-2 on my vita. Noice.

I've got $35 in PSN credit I've been saving for Disgaea 4 on Vita, but for those prices I think I'll just pick up FFX/2 HD and perhaps FFT (PS1) and Front Mission.

Refer to charlequin's post in this thread. He explains it more elegant than I ever could.

Are there any gameplay differences between the FF 1 and 2 PSP releases and the FF Origins collection of those two games? Not that the PSP versions are even available on PSN for some reason, but still.

Also, is any of the dlc for FF 13-2 worth it? Are the things just ways to unlock stuff early or are they actually locked to dlc?

Thank you both for your help! Completely answers my question.

Oddly enough, I'll be getting both now that I think about it, but the answer I got is still important; I will play War of the Lions on the Vita, and if I wanted to later, play the PSone version on the PS3. Thanks again guys.

Thanks for the heads up! I was on the fence with VI, but that video showing off its gameplay turned me away. Got FFVIII and I noticed that Persona 3 Portable was on sale, so nabbed that too!

I too would like to know! A time difference would also be appreciated.

The Origins versions of 1 and 2 still have the gameplay intact from the NES versions. The PSP versions are based on the new, "refined" versions of the games from the GBA versions. Most of the differences are in Final Fantasy I in the PSP versions. Final Fantasy I on PSP is MUCH easier than in Origins and monsters drop two or three times as much money and every item costs half as much. It also has a MP system for magic instead of magic levels. Most of the changes in Final Fantasy II are bugs that made leveling skills easier and stats no longer have the ability to lower. Origins is the last way to play Final Fantasy I and II with their original gameplay mechanics.

I'll be playing the PSone titles on my PS3. When I get a Vita eventually, will I be able to carry my saves?

Chrono Trigger fans is Chrono Cross worth it or should I just play Trigger?

Chrono Cross is mostly a spiritual successor, if my memory serves me correctly. The ties to the original are few and far between. Trigger is a masterpiece that any RPG lover should play at least once in their life. Cross on the other hand... It's a fun game, but with a ridiculously bloated cast of characters, the game tends to falter under its own weight and ambition. Still fun and worth a fiver I'd say. But Trigger is definitely the one you want to prioritize.
