I still have the beta installed on my PS4. It's staying there till launch day. I couldn't get the Limited Edition due to it being out of stock but I chose to go down the digital route. Now I just have to request September 9 and 10 off and have the alarm clock wake me up at midnight to start playing.

Did they wipe characters? My app says no characters linked to app now.
Nope.

I still believe!

I'm a different Everyday Math.
Are you the good Everyday Math or the evil one?

I still have the beta installed as well even after Bungie said you could go ahead and delete it in the last weekly update.

It just sits there... taunting me.
Luckily for me, it's been push back a bit by the games I bought and several other apps so I don't have to see it, taunting me, luring me to open the app and see that dreaded message again.

After reading through this thread about games that are basically useless now due to online servers being shut down, I was wondering...

Have we had any word from Bungie addressing this aspect of Destiny like how long they plan on keeping servers running (will all the titles share servers, so basically it plays into their whole 10 year plan) or for example is there any contingency plan where if servers are taken offline players can continue to play the single player content (story missions and such) anyway?

Also for veterans of the Halo series, how were Bungie in the with keeping server support up for the MP portion of their past titles?

I think they are taking some steps that would lead me to believe they won't be super focused on keeping online support very long for the first game after the second one comes.

They already said that characters will transfer over to the next game they make, so I think they won't be very worried about keeping Destiny running for 6 years or more.

This is my personal opinion, and shouldn't be taken as fact, except for the part about character transfers, that's legit.

Character transfers are a little disconcerting, i wonder how that'll be dealt with in D2

From amazon twitter:

Nice. Definitely called it that more would pop up sporadically in that eBay thread. Same thing happened with the Xbox One preorders. A few weeks out there was a frenzy, so I listed both my and my brother's preorder cards from Target on Craigslist and sold them each for $150 to very grateful parents who wanted to buy consoles for their kids. A week before launch Amazon listed more and I was able to pick one up then.

Time is a flat circle and all that.

I wonder how they will address higher leveled players when you transfer to the next game.

Will you just have to use higher difficulties?

I imagine it will be like an MMO expac, just adding more content for level 20+, but the amount of content is equal to a new game.

They are probably saved on Bungie servers, which would make it pretty simple to move along to the new game.
Does anyone know how long after CoD MW came out to CoD MW2 it took activision to take down any dedicated servers?

Actually, I don't even know if those ever had any dedicated servers...

Whats disconcerting is that if you're not leveling up and or adding something of significance to your character from story based missions then whats the incentive? The story? pffft!

I was wondering this myself and I think higher difficulties makes sense. It depends on if there's a limit to how much "Light level" we have. Maybe a difficulty that's especially for people over say level 26 or something

No one at Bungie has said your level or gear transfer over. So technically it could be just your characters likeness.
Would blow in my opinion.

It will probably be like moving from Sword Art Online to Alfheim Online. Same character, different outfit, lose your level, lose your weapons, grow fairy wings...

I'm sorry.

Eh my character is still intact. My hunter is too agile to just get wiped like that.

Or like Kiroto in GGO, and get your stats converted from one game to another, but get a different avatar? That'd work too.

I was playing Titanfall yesterday and the whole time I was thinking about how much I wanted to play Destiny instead, and then I realized I forgot to post this video
and this one
something about the spontaneous death made me laugh so hard

Well... InFamous Second Son sure kind of removes the itch of wanting Destiny.

I am so freaking glad with my PS4. It felt like the perfect time to step into current gen.

I still load it from time to time just to listen to the music, there's no way im deleting it until I get the retail version in my ps4. That music....

While I'm here though...

Not sure about SOME of the phrases of music
in the beta though. I can definately hear Marty's influence but without any disrespect to Mike Salvatori, C. Paul Johnson, and even Paul McCartney; I'm pretty sure I can tell which pieces didn't have his input (I realise this is a sweeping statement which is impossible to know for fact, but I believe he does have a signature sound and compositional technique which is missing in some of the music).

For an ingame example, the 3 stage defense part where the ghost is disabling the barrier on the array mission - the music that played here was much weaker (in my opinion) than other music in the game.

The instrumentation of it fits well for the action, but didnt fit with the rest of the music, and I felt the overal composition and instrumentation lacking when juxtaposed with the overall theme and especially the action music at the end of the same level.

The music is truly excellent, but there are one or two examples of stuff in there that just doesn't sit as well for me.

Obviously music is HIGHLY subjective, so this is just my opinion.

I'm just glad the man got paid finally.
Hope he will still be working with Bungie in the future.

That would make sense to me, maybe it could work like a New Game+ type of deal..? So anyone who is new to the 2nd game does the first mission designed for regular lvl 1-3 while players who have finished Destiny can 'tick a box' where it makes said mission lvl 21-23?

Character transfers are a little disconcerting, i wonder how that'll be dealt with in D2
I guess they could do what I assume WoW does whenever it adds a expansion, basically level cap is raised for everyone (for example 40) and then new players are fast tracked through the lower levels up to 20.

Agreed, if we couldn't transfer all our stats and gear that would be a big disappointment and make transferring characters pretty useless as Destiny doesn't have much of a in-depth character creator nor the choice/consequence system like for example Mass Effect.

I bought 60 of them to sell on eBay for $300 each. But since you are here I will sell it to you for a low low price of $299. Just kidding but i bet thats what some people did. Apparently the Xbone also had the Ghost edition instock for about 10 minutes.

This next month is going to be a long one.

Your avatar looks like Arnold as a black man....I can't look away.

Dream teams and false freaking out over erased characters(my bad)

And Team Leftovers.

My app still loads the character but I get a server offline message.

Do you guys really think there won't be a character wipe at launch?

Would be a nice little surprise if my character survives through to retail, but I don't have any real hope of it happening personally.
