Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

I'm kinda hoping this bombs badly now, i liked the 1st game (even though it was more Uncharted than Tomb Raider) and was looking forward to Rise (on PC), but after this i really hope the game fails - if only to teach them a lesson on not pissing off their fanbase.

It's also true that it's "100% exclusive to Xbox One"... in Holiday 2015.

If if weren't timed, all Microsoft/Square Enix would need to say is that it's exclusive for the life of the title, and they'll clear up all the confusion - and Microsoft would surely be proud to tout such a thing, no?

I remember during the conference Jim Ryan taking some shots at this very subject when talking about some of the games lineup.

If they had specified whether it was timed or whether it was a full exclusive, I wouldn't even give it a second thought. But when you have everyone questioning whether it is or not, it's like Microsoft didn't learn a thing about messaging problems last year.

really ? do they do this with every exclusive ? point out in blog posts that it will never hit other platforms ?

right now it says exclusive and we wont know if its not until 2016

in an official blog post they probably wouldn't but when several people ask them to elaborate and they go into PR mode and refuse to budge on "holiday 2015" you know something is up

This is crap...

I have both systems, just so I can play exclusives, but there is no way I am buying this.

You have exclusives that are made in house.

You have exclusives, like the recent Sunset Overdrive, where the developer gets to keep control of their product, so staying on one system makes sense.

You have exclusives, like Bayonetta 2, where one of the big companies helps fund the game which would have never been made otherwise.

With all of these I have no problem buying the game and is the reason I own all the major systems.

Then you have crap like this where one company pays to keep the game off other systems. This is complete anti-consumer shit. This is not helping the gamer. This is not creating exciting content for your fans. This is not making me want to support your company by hiring the most talented artist in the industry and giving them a chance to wow me. This is 100% complete mafia bullshit of taking out all competition and leaving me one single choice.

fuck you I am not supporting this...

god this place is crazy.

If this was Sony people would going nuts and laughing at MS.

MS can't do anything right with most of you.

Questions:

Whose responsible for this whole mess actualy ?

A. MS (for paying)
B. Square Enix (for receiving)
C. Crystal dynamics (for backstabbing the ps + pc community)
D. Sony (for not paying)

I'd blame A for even starting this whole conundrum but I'll blame B and C for taking the money.

Man the CD statement cracks me up every time at the end.

"We not ignoring PS or PC , go buy temple of osris and tomb raider DE"

Such odd choice of exclusive even timed if wanted make some money lock down COD or Ass Creed.

I'm talking about from the time from the E3 in June reveal to the EA announcement. One of the devs even said it was timed exclusive to start with here a couple months ago.

Ahh okay, I see what you're getting at. Basically PS4 owners could still be fucked regardless of whether its timed or not right now lol. LOVE IT.

I firmly believe that in 2 years time, we will be seeing this title on PS4/PC. If SE truly gave in to M$ with the cash that was handed to them, M$ would have come out cleanly and said that TR is now "only on Xbox One." They mentioned exclusively on Xbox One in Holiday 2015-->timed exclusive in my book. Seems pretty clear to me...

Sounds like a lot of people in this thread are desperate to say this isn't permanently an exclusive. Developers and Publisher are saying it is so stop spreading false facts.
Titanfall 1 was an exclusive but the series was clearly never going to be. EA Wants Titanfall to compete with COD and that can't happen without supporting all the platforms.

It almost gets to the same level of "'We Have A Product For People Who Can't Access The Internet, It's Called Xbox 360'. Its such a stupid statement that's pretty insulting to their fanbase on other systems.

Damn.. Now I feel bad for supporting these fuckers by buying the Definitive Edition on PS4 and digitally also... Fuck...

Crystal Dynamics and SE can shove it. Complete BS really.

Screw over the fanbase that got you the most sales next gen... Jesus..

TR2013 broke even for SE, wouldn't be crazy to think they need financial help.

I'll have to see a source as well. And is Tomb Raider 2013/DE the only thing from SE for them to fund the project with?

Titanfall 1 wasn't going to be exclusive until the project was almost axed by EA due to all the drama surrounding Infinity Ward departure setting the game back. When they first showed the game at E3, I'm sure they (EA)were still working out the deal with Microsoft to ensure security over the project.

Sounds like there's just as many people desperate to revel in other people not being able to play a game.

This all seems like it gonna be a bad deal all round.

Tomb raider fans are probably not gonna buy it out of principal now unless they only have an xbox one which had half as much sales then the ps4 version of definitive.

Uncharted, if it is out next Christmas is gonna steamroll it sales wise.

People with both consoles are more then likely only gonna buy one or the other for overkill of genre and most i would assume would opt for uncharted. (me)

Tomb raider is def not a system seller its one of those games you buy on the cheap when there's nothing else decent out.

Square will likely have high numbers as a target and probably not meet them at all and lock the doors at crystal dynamics as is the trend with big publishers lately.

Even if it does come out later on other systems. No one is going to care by then

Wishing ill-will on all of the people involved with the project. Seriously?

We've reached new heights people.

They are not saying that. They are dancing all over PR speak like someone shooting pistols at their feet with "holiday 2015" shit.

I fucking hope Uncharted 4 is out by next holiday. No, I would actually want ND to troll SE by releasing it on the same day as this game. SE is losing it...

Normally in such a situation I would say "guess I'm getting the pc version", but I can't even do that. I probably would have had a xb1 by then anyway, but this deal makes me not want to get a xb1 or the game.

They specifically stated it's an Xbox exclusive and it'll arrive in 2015. They didn't say "It's an Xbox exclusive for 2015 Holiday".

And again a Square Enix employee said 100% exclusive.

Wow, even when you understand that Microsoft has near limitless bags of money, you just can't guess what the limits of that power are till it hits you in the face. Congratulations Microsoft, I guess. Sucks to be all of us without an Xbone though. Particularly those of us who really enjoyed the first one, on the PC. I hope it's worth it. I think EA second guessed itself with Titanfall, but it was too late. The Xbone is getting crushed 3 to 1, man that must've been a huge pile of cash. Damn.

Tomb Raider 2103 is a amazing game. Whoever not planning to buy is definitely missing out.

I haven't played it yet and I got it for free on PSN. I think I'm missing out more for not playing TLoU, Portal 2, SMG2, and other games which are all probably better than Tomb Raider 2013. I guess I don't really care. I'm sure I'll get around to it.

If this does end up being an actual exclusive, it won't be the game to make me buy an Xbox One because Uncharted 4 exists and it will be nuts.

It's Microsoft's fault for not being clear about. Hellblade is cut and dry -- timed exclusive. MS will not confirm if TR is coming to other platforms or not, which leads everyone to believe it's timed. It's deceptive and is going to backfire in their face if it turns out to me timed.

Nothing will top that statement.

What is it with MS and clumsy PR they been improving and now today failing get message across we have people saying timed while others permanent exclusive. They have nothing lose just by saying it timed

They are just looking for their off the record or otherwise timed date figure. That's all.

I am sure even if the game fails the people involved will be just fine, i mean if it fails badly (like i hope) - they can always release it on the other platforms (if it is in fact 100% exclusive).

Consider that lots and lots of people are naturally going to be curious about the new Tomb Raider game when it releases. They're then going to investigate PS3 and PS4 versions, only to discover that they don't actually exist, which is a pretty big talking point, as we've seen. This topic of conversation then snowballs and publicly reinforces the statement that Microsoft is serious as a heart attack about Xbone and securing exclusives for it, which makes buyers feel more comfortable about supporting it and receiving future cherry exclusives.

It's basically taking advantage of the high profile branding Tomb Raider carries to get people talking about Xbox, and buying Xbox hardware, two birds with one no doubt expensive stone. And if they keep doing stuff like this, it'll probably pay off, at least in terms of re-establishing their hardware.

Even though the idea sounds a bit convoluted, it's the only way it makes sense.

I'm not going to pretend I know the inner workings of Microsoft's business strategy, but it seems like this money could be spent better elsewhere (like their own studios and IPs). But if what you're speculating is actually the case, then perhaps it isn't as baffling as it seems.

Tomb raider?

Okay, I'm clearly out of touch if this is a megaton.

Agreed, I have no fucking clue why a TOMB RAIDER thread has 110+ pages on neogaf just because microsoft possibly has exclusivity to it :/ I feel like I'm on a different planet right now.

Tomb Raider Definitive Edition sold more than twice as much on PS4 than Xbox One.

Square you fucking idiots.

http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/tomb_..._over_twice_as_much_on_ps4_than_xbox_one.html

Square probably feels:

MS Money + Sales From All Three Platforms - Money Lost From People Taking a Stand - Money Lost From Releasing on Other Platforms Late > Sales From All Three Platforms From Simultaneous Release

They're only idiots if it truly is a MS Exclusive forever and

MS Money + Xbox One Sales < Sales From All Three Platforms

really ? do they do this with every exclusive ? point out in blog posts that it will never hit other platforms ?

right now it says exclusive and we wont know if its not until 2016

Of course both console makers call an exclusive an exclusive. This thread is bizarro world, I thought GAF was good with PR.
