The stuff they added in Golden was just sugary fanservice. The ending of vanilla Persona 4 was fine.

I loved every fucking second of Persona 4 Golden. Every one.
Heh, was referring to Winter in particular and how they expand on
Adachi's personality
Not to mention all the little events here and there.
They expanded on the Izanaga mythology stuff, which makes the ending of the game make a bit more sense if nothing else.

Man, so hyped for the MGS video series. Not a big fan of the franchise myself because I never really liked how it plays (yeah yeah, I know), but it's perfect for a series like this with a novice who's probably gonna love the fiction and Dan who absolutely love the series.

Watching Metal Gear Scanlon right now, which is great since I was planning on playing through the series anyway.

They mention they're playing this on PS3. How does the Psycho Mantis battle work in that version? Does it have all the cool stuff in it still?

EDIT: Also, I've only every played The Twin Snakes. These cutscenes are very different!

just hit the home button and switch your controller to controller #2

and the memory card stuff works the same too. if you have save files in your active virtual memory card, the game will see them

dan should sneak some sotn and suikoden save files onto that ps3 just in case drew doesn't already know about that fight

The gameplay doesn't look that thrililng, but this Trace Vector music is great. It reminds me of Rez's music a bit. Definitely getting that soundtrack.

Dan already told him about that fight in the Demo Derby video. Not sure how much he'll remember of it though.

Drew's reaction to naked Johnny was hilarious. I hope in the next episode, Dan gets him to bypass the censor blur by zooming the scope right into his ass like I used to do when I played it as a kid.

It wasn't until typing out that sentence that I realised how weird it is that I used to do that.

I still don't get people's complaints about Twin Snakes. It usually boils down to three points:

1. Some different voices - Boo hoo, this is hardly game breaking, and it was the same voice actresses right? Just without the goofy accents?

2. First person option - This predominantly effects just the Ocelot fight, otherwise non-issue.

3. "Over the top" cutscenes - For one, the cutscenes were directed by Konami/Kojima, not Silicon Knights, and two, no MGS fan has the right to ever complain that anything could possibly be too "over the top."

I mean, there were far more changes in terms of gameplay, voice acting, etc from Resident Evil to REMake and that game is almost universally beloved.

Shitty remake is shitty. All it has going are the new 3D models, that's it. They even changed the music which was my biggest gripe with it.

Changes are not inherently bad. Twin Snakes had bad changes, REmake had good changes. It's as simple as that.

Anyways, loved the first episode of Metal Gear Scanlon, looking forward to more.

Also, MGS2's ending is the best part of that game. You guys are CRAZY.

Frankly, I'm more concerned about the kids that didn't crawl over and use the scope on Johnny's ass.

I wouldn't even argue that Twin Snakes had bad changes, just changes for the sake of changes.

And yes you are entirely correct about MGS2.

you speak so well
I just subbed for the MGS series. Is there any old Premium content worth digging up?

Never subscribed before?

- Any Random PC Games (Phantasmagoria in particular)
- Bioforge (starts on an Unprofessional Friday, search for the game to find the specific one)
- the Mario Party stream from a couple weeks ago
- Drew's North Korea trip video
- Flight Club videos
- Breaking Brad is pretty good, the recent Volgarr one is great since it's pretty much just the guys talking with occasional cursing from a frustrated Brad (and contains one of Brad's greatest moments as well)
- There are a lot of Demon's Souls/Dark Souls videos that are pretty good if you like those games

Couldn't you replicate the memory card trick simply by inserting the original games into the PS3, making a save with them and then using the memory card manager on the PS3 to import those saves back into the MGS virtual memory card?

Dan should do that behind the scenes just to make that entire encounter more memorable when the time comes.

They could just get the saves of those games off of Gamefaqs and put them on the ps3.

Twin snakes is great. Never understood the hate.

the game wasn't designed with MGS2 mechanics in mind and the developers didn't balance MGS for them. It breaks one boss fight and makes a mockery of most of the game's conflicts.

The cutscenes took the relatively-grounded
for a metal gear game, anyway
MGS1 and made it into some sort of post-matrix anime nonsense. Just because Kojima ok'd them doesn't make them any good. Also, the game didn't really look that good even when released. The game actually looks worse than MGS2, whose engine is used for this remake.

The rerecordings were good in that the stereotypical accents were gone, so you didn't have an NA-born asian person speaking like a caricature but instead she spoke perfect english, as she should've. However, they're also mostly half-assed. It sounds like they slept through this recording session vs MGS1.

REmake took the original game and made it better. It added new mechanics, yes, BUT they redesigned the game around them. They stayed true to RE1, with their additions fitting in damn well within the original game, and the game itself looked amazing and still does. Twin Snakes brings as many bad things with it as adds good things, and comparing the two only makes Twin Snakes look worse, not better.

The only people who i've ever seen recommend Twin Snakes are people who either played that first or never played MGS1. Just about anyone who played the games in order of release will tell you to not bother with Twin Snakes.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is the Best Metal Gear Solid and Its Ending Owns is the official correct opinion in the Giant Bomb thread on w w w dot neogaf dot com, thanks for your time

Maybe it's because I'd already heard and read the hate when I finally finished MGS2, but I had a neutral reaction to the ending. Overall I enjoyed my time with it.

MGS3 is still my favorite in the series and, being the one that starts the important events in the timeline, is coincidentally the one I recommend to most newcomers to the series.

re-recorded dialog. it's worse
completely redid most of the soundtrack with inferior songs. so bad
added new gameplay options to a game that wasn't designed with them in mind
and the goofy as fuck cutscenes. theyre not "over the top" theyre just dumb.

I've always been partial to the theory that MGS Twin Snakes is the propoganda/training program that Raiden went through before MGS2.

Ideally you'd just play both with precedence to MGS on the PS1.

I think I'm just going to watch Drew play through all of MGS and not try to play them myself. Will probably save my Vita from being thrown at a wall due to me getting frustrated at the controls.
