Halo 4 does. Reach's counter can be misleading, as the in game counter shows everyone playing the game, while Halo 4's only shows people currently playing War Games. Next time someone pops in Reach, count each playlists population. That's the number you would need to campare with Halo 4.

Halo 4 has more.

Okay so Halo 3 was wrong either way lol

These guys are just listing their favorite Halo to play online.

Personally, I've been playing Reach exclusively, because I'll have plenty of time for the others in November :)

Hope frankie can address the state of Halo 2, 3. and 4 in the MCC.

This is something that actually hasn't been answered to my knowledge. And it affects Halo 2, 3, and 4.

Are we getting the games EXACTLY as they shipped? Or are we getting the latest version?

Shipped Halo 2 was a bit of a mess. The BR had a big spread, nades were weak (or too strong I forget).

Shipped Halo 3 has the melee situation, and a couple of hiding spots and such.

Shipped Halo 4 doesn't have the Turbo update! RIP!

I'm pretty sure they said in one of the Halo bulletins on Waypoint when they did Q&A it was going to be the most up to date/recent version of all the multi-player suites.

I loved it but the dig at Bungie was unecessary. That's the company that made all the stuff he also loved. And it was stated as if it were a fact, rather than his opinion.

Dat internettiquette.

That and reach is the greatest human accomplishment of all time. Again, I'm not joking. Seriously want to get my reach on if I can find my disc.

Yeah, I find it kind of funny they had that dig at Bungie then proceed to show a clip from a game they made.

Well, this is it. Microsoft has made an official statement regarding the international localization for the MCC:

Halo 2 will come in full English for Spanish territories, both audio and subtitles. However, we are trying very hard to maybe have a post-launch patch at least with a localization for texts. But we think that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a superb compilation of Halo games and fans will be as excited as we are.

Brilliant. Despite all the efforts from their community, they're still going with their "no localization" strategy. There goes my copy of the game... Here in Spain this is generating quite a large buzz, sure it will explode as well in America as soon as they wake up.

Microsoft, what are you thinking?

It's really sad H2 will never get a proper dub in here, if this same thing happens with H5... I (and lots of people) will lost their shit.

Frankie words about this issue and H5 gives me some hope this won't happen in the future.

Atleast we are MAYBE getting local subs ... *sigh*

Edit: english will also be better than that shitty neutral dub, seriously... listen to this. When arby says "demon" I always die a little inside.

Which Halo is the most popular now for multiplayer? Reach or Halo 4? Or is that just a silly question....

I ask because I need to get my Halo fix and can't wait until November!

Halo 4 probably, but if you want to play a good Halo game hop on Halo 3 instead.
or Halo 2 PC

Bungie tried some new things with the game, and not a lot of people liked what they tried out. It's not like they set out to make you dislike Halo or anything.

Oh I know, I never said that. But they showed clips of Halo 2 and 3. Reach destroyed the competetive community. I doubt bungie set out to do this, but it happened. I still had fun with the game, especially post update, but I really hated a bunch of its mechanics.

I'm fairly certain they have actually confirmed this in a roundabout way. You see, there will be the standard playlists (Team Slayer, Team Objective, etc) which will contain maps (and therefore the relevant sandbox and settings) from all 4 Halo games. So in Team Slayer the lobby might get 3 options: Sanctuary (H2), Valhalla (H3), and (sorry can't remember Halo 4 map names, quit playing it rather quickly). If the lobby votes for the Halo 4 map, then armor abilities and loadouts will be present, but if they vote for Sanctuary then they won't.

Then there will be a dedicated playlist (at least one, maybe more) for each game. So, say, you choose Halo 2 playlist, then the lobby options might be to vote for: CTF (Sanctuary), Team Slayer (Turf), and One Bomb (Zanzibar).

What I DON'T think you'll see is dedicated playlists for each game in every game mode. AKA I don't think we'll see H2 - Slayer, H2 - Objective, H2 - Swat, H3 - Slayer, H3 - Objective, H3 - Swat. I think we'll just see TS (all games), Big Team (all games), Swat (all games), Team Objective (all games), H1 (mix), H2 (mix), H3 (mix), H4 (mix).

I seem to recall the SDCC panel actually showing a video (or maybe it was E3?) of the pre-lobby where you could select which playlist to search and it was essentially this sort of setup.

That sounds really good to me, actually.

I think everyone respects Bungie for their tremendous work on the franchise, just a fair amount of fans feel slighted with their last game and how they went out with Halo franchise all together. The video is made from competitive guys for all Halo fans, so there is some slight biased on how we feel. The competitive crowd and Bungie just didn't mesh, from them saying our opinions don't matter to mocking members (even if deserved). I'll always love their product but in recent years I can't say I really care about Bungie like I do other studios.

Glad you and the rest of 343i enjoyed the video, Snipetality been making some incredible Halo content in the last year.

I'd much, much rather be down on a JiP match every once in a while then wind up in 4v2 or 8v3 matches pretty much every couple matches. Big Team especially was unplayable for me in Halo 3 (I literally wound up in at least one 8v2 or 8v1 match damn near every single time I played) and Reach wasn't much better (which sucked, because I loved Invasion but was almost never able to get a complete, even-sided match after the few couple months). In Halo 4 it's not even an issue.

That said, the most ideal situation would simply be to bring back Ranked and Social, and lock JiP to Social matches only.

get a group of Halo players. You'll rarely get that when you have 8 players and it usually matches 8 with 8 if it can.

Watching those pro-team finals on Halo's twitch stream.

The games are so good. To my surprise, I also really enjoy Bravo and Goldenboy's commentary, as opposed to just watching the games. They're fun.

Wait for goldenboy's interview of a tall player on stage. Hilarious. Bravo was born to commentate, dude can pull 5 mins of commentary out of his hat like it's nothing.

Yeah, I'll just go do that. And every single time I play I'll make sure the other 7 are on.

...ooooor how about no, let me just matchmake without getting fucked over. :3

The combo is really nice. Goldenboy brings the hype while Bravo brings the knowledge.

Honestly, Halo has a history of great commentator pairs. Unfrankable, Gandhi & Maven, Puckett & Gandhi, Bravo & Goldenboy, and any combination of them.

Yeah. The Bungie dig really spoils that entire video for me honestly. Was rather good otherwise.

I can't say that I disagree though...

Bungie made a few drastic changes and then just left. I'm not saying Reach was a bad game (The worst Halo games are still better than 99.9% of other shooters) but it simply wasn't Halo 2/3 quality good. When the bar is set so high so early on thats a really tough thing to compete against.

The rock/paper/scissors/FUCKINGARMORLOCK style gameplay really hurt competition.

Sprint harms map design.

Bloom is bad for fast gunplay.

Once we get away from these things and back to a more pure Halo experience I'm certain we will see a Halo revival.

Gulf between production values and messaging coherency.

I'm actually not so sure about that...The message is pretty clear to me. Classic style Halo is what we want. Bungie created classic style Halo...and then they changed it.

I'm certain they had the best intentions and hindsight is 20/20 but nobody now can look back at Reach and say the franchise is in better shape now than it was back in 2010.

I have strong faith in 343, they are some of the most awesome, and hard working people I have ever met...They clearly have heard the message... Bring back that original trilogy feel and gameplay and the players will come.

Hopefully MCC really kicks XB1 sales into overdrive.

I agree in spirit with what Sundance said, but I also agree that a hype video maybe wasn't the best place to express that sentiment.

I'm actually not so sure about that...
It basically solely blames a single Bungie game for a very broad problem, and especially without tighter context introduces uncomfortable finger-pointing into a hype video.

It forms a narrative that makes sense, and it's not unreasonable as the "how Halo got here" story, but the way it's focused conflicts with the feel.

Has there been any video of the game selection screen? I.e choose the halo game you want to play. Halo had always been slick with its interface but I have never seen a good game selection menu with remastered collections (maybe Mario All-Stars?) but wanted to see how they were handling it.

It seems pretty clear that Reach was just a springboard for what Bungie wanted to do in Destiny. I don't think they wanted to make Halo anymore but they had to. So they beta tested their Destiny ideas in a Halo game and then everyone told them they hated it.

That isn't to say Reach is a bad game, I actually think it's a great game. It's just easily the worst Halo IMO.

From what I understand from separate interviews with Paul Russell, and Marcus Lehto, there were parts of Bungie who didn't even want to make Halo 2 but they had no choice because MS wanted it, and that halo fatigue had started setting in with the dev team as early as halo 3 development.

I'm glad Bungie were able to go off and do their own thing that they actually wanna do... And that we still get halo games too ^_^
Bungie going off to make their own thing seems like the best thing for both themselves and for halo.

That's possible, although only the people in that inner circle would know for sure. It's true that in and of itself Reach isn't a bad game. If it had released with totally different graphics and a different name, as a new IP, with zero relation to Halo, people probably wouldn't have been so hard on it. The problem was that it was such a departure from what MADE Halo... Halo in the first place. It grew into an extremely competitive arena shooter, and the chaos that ensued with changing that formula too much sparked the Reach bashing.

The fact that Halo 4 followed that trend isn't anyone's fault. It was just the next logical step in the progression. I find that I can have fun in Halo 4 (even in the Infinity Slayer playlist) if I go into with with that mindset, that it's just chaotic fun. But it just doesn't feel like Halo anymore.

Signs point to a return to form with Halo 5. My hopes are high given the fact that 343i are doing a REAL beta test, early enough in development to actually USE what they learn from the beta to affect real change for the better in the final product. Most betas these days are glorified demos...
