Amazing!

I love Tekken and Pokemon. A battle game with the better of these 2 will be awesome!

Can't wait for a Wii U version, of course.

Y'all, this is definitely coming to Wii U. "It's coming to arcades first." Pretty much implies that.

Awesome announcement though. Blaziken will be my main of course. Fire type master race.

Remember when the whole crowd sang the Pokemon anime song at CEO 2012 and would not stop even after they cut it off? There is definitely an audience for this.

Looks pretty bland and cheap, background looks like something someone could muster up with a collection of free 3d assets... but in Harada we trust.

That's cool and all, but it would be weird if they flooded the game with Tekken music after stating that this game is not just a Tekken reskin. I would like it if the music were Tekken-style remixes of pokemon music.

But Pokemon music got nothing on Tekken. :/

Electric Fountain
Your Sunset
Moonlit Wilderness
^ Version 3
Original School theme

Just to give a few examples.

I'm not saying it should all just be remixes of old Tekken music.

New music but with an infused flavor of Pokemon and Tekken.

I'm glad all the Pokken hype was regarded. I haven't played Tekken in years so I have no idea if I actually enjoy the mechanics this game will have but I hope it's fun!

This game will be nothing like Tekken.

They already confirmed there is no low-mid-high game. That already makes this different than all the other traditional fighters on the market.

So I made an image of my "roster" for it. Of course I don't expect it to have 99 pokémons in the final version of the game, this is more a collection of pokés that I think could be interesting in this style of fighting.

Plus an mockup of character selection screen

Looks great! Based Harada. Imagine it were like Tekken Revo and you could download and play online for free. The Wii U purchase gets more tempting by the day.

I wonder if this arcade is running on Wii U hardware already or if it's on Triforce or something. I guess Triforce probably is not too different from Wii U either.

So is this basically confirmed to be releasing on Wii U? If so, I'm thinking about getting a cheap fighting stick for Tekken Tag Team, TvC, and this.

Don't want to end up getting two sticks if Pokken isn't coming to Wii U though. What say you, GAF?

There will more than likely be a new stick released when the game comes out.

I have an idea for a potential replacement to the high/low system.

Blocking is done by a guard button. This is known in-game as Protect. Like in the actual games, Protect will block anything on the first hit. For every hit in the blockstring afterward, however, the amount of time you are allowed to hold block decreases, just like how in the RPGs Protect has an increasing chance of failure for each use. At a certain point you pretty much have to time your blocks to the exact moment the opponent the opponent attacks, a la parrying. At this point you're in a rough spot. You have to make sure you don't get baited into using a bad block by your opponent mixing up their attack timing. To avoid this, you can block fast attacks, or when your opponent is using a slow attack to throw you off, take advantage and sidestep or backdash out of the way and punish.

I'm thinking too hard about this.

If I understand you correctly, basically you have like a single bar for the whole round to show how much more you can safely block before you have to start straight up parrying? I don't think this is a good idea for a couple reasons. A system like this would end up putting a player in a very big disadvantage if you don't manage how much you can safely block. It's not necessarily bad, but for a Nintendo game it seems too punishing and puts the player in too big of a hole to not be able to block regularly.

Also, in the games Protect only increases the failure rate for each successive turn used, but works fine if you do it every other turn, so it would be cool if you can take this idea but put it only to single combo strings, like you can block the first hit, but it's harder to stay blocking while they do a whole combo on you. Ultimately, I like the idea of instead high/mid/low blocks you have physical and special blocks, with each poke having different physical/special attack and defensive stats and you get punished more if you don't do the right kind of block for the right kind of attack.

Awesome!

Do you think it'll be compatible with the Wii U Tekken stick? Think I'll just buy one Tekken stick now (to play Tekken TT2) and get the Pokken stick if they release a new one to go with the game.

The TTT2 stick is basically a Wii CC, so if Pokken supports that, it should work.

Please no.

Considering that Masaaki Hoshino (Soulcalibur producer) is involved as the project's lead, apparently? I wouldn't be surprised if a Block button is involved here. It'd may make more sense for a game where maneuverability and projectile-usage may take more precedence here than it would in Tekken.

As a guy who loves SC, I wouldn't mind it, either.

The official English trailer on youtube says "Planned for Arcade release in Japan in 2015". There is no "first" there. The official Japanese website also says nothing more than "planned for Arcade release in 2015".

It may come to the Wii U at a later date (2016), but it is definitely not certain at this point. Mario Kart Arcade GP (and its sequels GP 2 and GP DX), also developed by Namco, never got a home port, for example.

Actually, I think if it is ported it is equally likely to be a launch title for Nintendo's next home platform, which should arrive in 2016 or 2017.

I hate block buttons too, but if there's no high lows then I'm not sure how that could be handled. Again, just throwing things out there.

During the reveal stream one of the dudes who's working on this game, said what Trago is quoting. And then followed up with a, paraphrasing here, 'I probably shouldn't have said that.'
