The Monster Hunter model is unproven on consoles for any game not named Monster Hunter.
There's a reason why Capcom moved the franchise over to handheld, and why they aren't even bothering with WiiU console ports.
when was the last time they tried though? I mean, have they really made an effort to get MH established in the west? Didn't Dragon's Dogma do well over here?
Last time I saw MH on consoles was an HD remaster on PS3 and Ultimate on Wii. If they actually release a MH with full-blown visuals and a story-line I don't see how it won't perform well.
The series is so popular on handhelds, I get it, just don't see why it hasn't been expanded on yet.
Destiny, Borderlands, Warframe, these are basically different takes on the Phantasy Star Online formula which is kinda the original Monster Hunter formula. I think co-op is universally appealing, and MH is no exception to this. If MH had a SP JRPG aspect to it, I think it would sell just as well in the west, even on consoles.
This is part wishful thinking on my part, but I truly do think Capcom is just wasting a perfect good opportunity. I mean, DD kinda already proved that the formula can work, and work well. I think the west just plays online more and local co-op is not appealing in the slightest. So you have to have a portion of the game that you can play by yourself, and then go online to team-up.
They way Destiny works where you always have to be online but can go off by yourself would work well for a MH games.
