Apple iPhone 6 [OT]

How the heck is the 6 inferior to the 6 Plus besides Optical image stabilization?

6 Plus has a better screen, better battery and a better camera. And it is significant superior in these categories. Pretty important categories.

When you look at the 3S to the 4, and the 4S to the 5, there are drastic worthy chages in the models. 5S to the 6 is a 5SS if you will. The only real upgrade is the 6 Plus and it is 5.5 inches.

The 6 Plus has a better battery (the 6 is also improved over the 5S, but not as much so)

Well a bigger size does lend room for a bigger battery

They have to justify the extra $100 somehow

Anyone know anything about Verizon preordering? The guy there didn't seem to know much. He said I could call at 3 AM but also I could come in at open and preorder one instead. Just trying to figure out what I should do.

Apple website, T-Mobile version.

Nope, it should be unlocked in both. Although you will not be able to use it on VZW or Sprint.

There is nothing to substantiate that it is 2GB.

I just read about this.

“The T-Mobile iPhone is contract-free and can be used with the GSM carrier of your choice internationally, but comes preconfigured for use with T-Mobile and needs to be activated with T-Mobile in the United States,” an Apple retail support representative wrote. “To use the iPhone with another carrier in the United States, you will want to contact T-Mobile for your available options or wait for the unlocked version of the iPhone to be released.”

So I guess the T-Mobile version is unlocked out of the country but not within the States.

I understand that, but at least make the 4.7 inch model much better than its predecessor. New features aren't through a phone, it is through the OS. A 5S with IOS8, is literally barley different than a 4.7 inch iPhone 6. The only difference is .7 inch of screen.

It's most certainly not the same thing as the 5s. Larger display, A8 SoC, better camera, NFC chip for Apple Pay, etc.

Also the screen is better too with higher contrast ratio and better viewing angles, same PPI but higher res. Also it has slightly better battery life than the 5S.

To say that there isn't a good improvement over the 5S is straight up wrong.

I can assure you this is the official stance, but has not been the case historically. Everytime a new phone comes out there's so much confusion, and it is completely their fault when they have so much contradicting stuff like: https://twitter.com/TMobileHelp/status/510174691655712768

But, if you buy from Apple and pay full price I am reasonably sure it will be unlocked and also they will unlock it for you through a request if it is not the case.

Since all of this is so shitty, I might go with a Verizon phone at full price to be safe. Since that is a CDMA device it's unlocked for all GSM networks.

The 6 Plus is a good improvement over the 5S.

The 4.7 inch model is an improvement. It isn't a good improvement at all. I am sorry. It's disappointing. It's the same screen just scaled up for a bigger 4.7 inch screen. The 6 Plus is the only model with an actual new improved screen.

I just cannot fucking decide. I know I'm getting 128gb, Space gray, but I cannot choose between the 6 and 6+

I cut out teh template and even went to an ATT store and held the G3 and Note 3. The size is awkward one handed, but perfect 2 handed. Enough to make me stop using wife's ipad mini and completely sell my Ipad 2.

Fits ok in pocket, but teh 6 is just so much more functional size wise.

The battery life, resolution and OIS is also killing me.

I want all of that in the 6, but damn the size is the killer for me in the 6+

Got less the 3 hours to decide lol. Fucking apple

What? The 6 and 6+ screen have the same advancements to the screen. Both screen are higher res but the 6+ has improved PPI. Both screens have the higher contrast ratio (actually the 6 has better contrast ration than the 6+) and better viewing angles. What was the massive improvement between the 4S and 5? Cause that wasn't some massive leap.

3 hours huh? Just a bit less than how long it will take to charge that 6+ from 0 to 100 with that 5W charger!

Am I missing something or is ATT Next not a bad deal?

It seems to basically be an interest free no fee loan for the price of the phone that you can pay off at any time.

Already on the contract free family pricing, and not going to sign another service contract.

Get the 6 and NOT the 6 plus. Apple has no restocking fees within 14 days, so you can return it and get a 6 plus should you feel you need it.

You, myself and hundreds of thousands of others are all thinking the same thing. It's so shitty, apple seriously sucks.

Or you can do the opposite as well lol

Everyone I've asked said they are getting 6 +. I talked to about 30 different family member and friends. Obviously that's not hard data lol. But I was surprised by how many people are opting for the bigger phone.

Someone earlier said they polled their office, and the majority said they were going for 6 + as well. Damn. I wonder what the demand will be for + vs the regular.

I'm getting a 6. My 5 is on it's last legs.
The 6+ is just a little too big to tAke to the gym or go hiking with. I still want my phone to fit in m back pocket.

It depends on the person, you do know you have to trade in the phone to get a new one right? This is what makes it a bad deal for me, but I suppose it could be different for others.

Seems that way, yes - it appears that since introducing the Next program they may have changed some things so that yeah it's a lot better.

I believe I'm going to go with the Next plan and (if possible - apparently it is) keep my grandfathered unlimited data plan.

According to some threads on the macrumors forums you only have to trade in the old phone to get a new one if you haven't paid it off by the time you want to upgrade.

With all of the crap Best Buy has pulled with saying there will be online preorders and then changing to instore only and then some horror stories I read online about losing unlimited grandfathered stuff I might just pay out of pocket and get AT&T even if I do have enough BB credit to make the upgrade free :x

Anyone else getting on AT&T when trying to press "View Upgrade Options":

I'm really surprised so many people are getting the 6+. Good for us 6 buyers I guess. I wonder if people don't realize how big a 5.5 inch phone really is.

Changed my mind y'all. Not getting Plus. I went to Best Buy and that Phone/Tablet hybrid size just feels like it loses some of the sleekness of a smartphone. It also isn't super great one-handed.

So, I'll let 6 Plus serve it's original plan to just make sure people who want TV's in their pocket to have it and I'll stick to the more iPhone sized 6. I need it to fit in my pocket and not be so big that I'd be jealous looking at James Bond's more reasonably sized phone next to me.

Sure it was. The 4S had 512MB of RAM, while the 5 had 1GB. The 5 also introduced 4G/LTE which was huge. The lightning cable charger for the iPhone 5 got my battery from 35% to 90% in literally 25 min.

If the iPhone 6 introduced equivalent significant changes in addition to its better processor and slightly larger screen it would be a nice upgrade. But there isn't much there.

Yea, if you pay all 20/24 payments you can get a new phone without trading in, but at that point I feel like what's the point and do I sign up for next again. I don't know, it's hard for me to buy into paying more monthly and saving 200 upfront. But it does depend on the person.

What do you mean? I don't intend to trade it in for a new phone in 12 months, as I would pay it off entirely and it is mine to keep at that point. There doesn't appear to be any fees of any type tied to it.

Every single iPhone people say its not different. I remember people saying the addition of LTE and the 4 inch screen weren't "different" enough from the 4S.

4.7 feels too small and 5.5 is too big. Really wished they went with something in the middle. 5 inches feels perfect for me.

I am currently an AT&T Next customer (got a Note 3 last year on the Next program). While some people might knock off the monthly installment plans as a rip off, it is not if you like to change phones every year or just plan on buying the phone for regular price.

e.g. My Note 3 was $700 off contract (or full price). I took it via the Next program and pay $35 monthly for 20 months ( $35x20= $700). I paid taxes when I got my phone and Im paying installments for the next 20 months (8 months left). Lets say I was getting the phone full price, I just pay the $749 and no contract. I can move my phone to wherever I want, what Next does is that it extends the price of the phone for 20 months instead of a lump sum. So if you plan to stay with AT&T, Next is a great plan.

Now, lets say that I want the new iPhone 6+ (which Im planning to get). I just go the store, trade in my phone, pay the taxes on the iPhone and continue paying the new phone. If I were to get the new iPhone on contract, I would have to add $25 monthly to the total of my bill for the whole 24 months of the contract ($25 x 24 = $600 plus the $399 for the iPhone 6+ = $1000 plus taxes).

"B-b-b-b-but mingoguaya, you just lost $350 on the Note 3 for the year you used it!" said someone once. And to this I reply, lets say I bought the Note 3 for a lump $700 + taxes, now if I were to sell it at the current value I will not fetch a lot more than $350. So it would amount to the same if I got it through Next than if I get it off contract pricing.

For a tech geek that needs to have the latest phone and can spare a bit more on the monthly bill, Next is a godsend. Before I would've had to wait two whole years to get a new phone, now I can try new OS's (I havent had an iPhone since the 3GS) every year and if I dont like one, I can go back to the one I like and not have to wait the full two years.

quoting myself for info relevant on Next. There are no hidden charges, and if you pay off the phone, you can do whatever you want with it.

Problem with Apple is that they can't make small bezels to save their lives, that's why the 5.5 is bigger than it could have been.

I'm personally going to stick with Space Gray. I love white iPhones, but I really do feel like the black bezel looks better against the screen. I know this isn't true for everyone. But that is my main reason for going with black.

I certainly agree, but it doesn't work for me because I would only ever upgrade once every two years. You are the perfect candidate for Next.

Ok, lets look at the changes between the 5S and 6:

- 4.7" screen
- Higher res screen but same PPI
- Better contrast ratio and viewing angles
- Better battery life for most tasks
- New SOC with A8 with better sustained performance over long periods of time
- Faster LTE with 150Mb/s (increase of 50Mb/s over iPhone 5S)
- New industrial design (much thinner and curvier)
- Better FaceTime and iSight Cameras (faster auto focus and better shooting modes)
- NFC payments

My only disappointment is that the 6 doesn't have 2gb or ram (neither does the 6+?). It's a big upgrade in every other way. I own a 5 and it was a nice jump from the 4S but it didn't blow it away. I think the biggest jump was the 3GS to the 4, that was amazing and I doubt we'll ever get a jump that substantial again. 6 is a solid improvement but we're at a point of diminishing returns, we're not going to see massive jumps like before.

I think the real question for me is, to get a case or to not get a case... This thing will be a beaut without a case but I kind of want a case with a flap that covers the screen since its so large. Decisions, decisions.

Same for me, I would have loved to see a 4" option. Oh well :/

I think once you use a bigger device you won't be able to go back to a smaller one, but it does suck that they are going to force one on people, but it makes all too much sense to do this for Apple because look, they can now charge more for phones.
