Apple iPhone 6 [OT]

A4 chip was the same CPU core (Cortex A8) and GPU (PowerVR SGX535) as the 3GS, just clocked a bit higher and with more RAM. It was the iPad 3 A5X of its time. Yes, the display was new and beautiful, but much like the iPad 3, some things actually ran worse than the 3GS because of the resolution bump without a sufficient bump in hardware capability. And the 3GS ran iOS 4 absolutely fine.

The design was great, the display was beautiful, and the camera improvements were nice, but I'd hardly say it was a tremendous jump.

I do remember iOS 4 being moderately laggy at times on the 4, especially during something as basic as the multitasking tray animation. I wouldn't go as far as to say it was a poor performing like the iPad 3, which had a new model less than a year later. Nevertheless, I still consider it one of the landmark iPhone revisions. The display alone set it apart from Android competitors at the time, who were more insistent on using bigger displays with the same or lower resolution as the 4.

Crap, now I'm confused on if I should do Next. I'm already a line on the 10GB Share plan and my 5 is $20 each month. How would my pricing compare for buying the 64GB 6 up front ($300 + $40 activation) vs via Next 12? Is it like you drop the Activation fee and then you do payments adding up to about half the phone's true cost, so it would be more like $400? I can't see how it compares to what I am doing now but I think it would cost me more...

Is the Apple Store going to let me add a phone to my Verizon Account with Edge Installment Billing? I was going to buy outright, but I think I'd rather pay it off over time, plus with a 10GB Data plan, it'll only $15 for the line, then like $40 for the 6+, and I can pay 50% of it off by calling Verizon, which will decrease the monthly even further.

Just weighing my options, instead of dropping $900+ tonight, I thought I may try and do Edge.

But, that's if Apple Store does it, I guess I could order from Verizon

OT, but sharing to pass the time: I went to shop around for cell plans to see if I made a good choice with T-Mo. Before tax and fees, I am paying 90 USD a month for 3 lines, 2 baseline, one unlimited unthrotled data. To get a similar plan from Verizon with enough data for my needs, it would cost 230 USD before tax and fees.

How the fuck is Verizon still alive with those rates?

They have the best cell coverage. Anecdotally, I'd never understand what not having cell signal was until I switched to T-mo. This was about 9 years ago though before I had a smartphone.

Holy FUCK the 6 Plus is ENORMOUS. I had to double check their iPhone 5 size with mine to make sure it was giving me the right size on my screen. I knew it would be big but I didn't expect THAT big.

I'm almost rethinking my purchase now O__O; Dunno if I'm man enough for dat 5.5.

Yeah. Comparing it to my Nexus 5 has removed all doubt, 4.7" 64GB locked in for me in less than an hour and a half!

Are in-store preorders enough to guarantee a phone on launch day? Online is a no-go for me so I'll be heading to the AT&T store later this morning since I'll be transferring an upgrade from another line on our Family Plan.

It really does depend on how much stock Apple has got. If you want to hedge your bet, higher capacities generally sell out slower. Also get there early.

I'm really surprised so many people are getting the 6+. Good for us 6 buyers I guess. I wonder if people don't realize how big a 5.5 inch phone really is.

my bro says he is is getting a 6+ and i'm still shocked.

i was pretty sure he'd get the 6, i mean he used to crack jokes about my Note 2 but nope. 6+ it is.

Okay so for about $40 more in phone cost, you can upgrade every year with Next. That's what I'm getting out of this. And I can't tell but it seems like it also take $5 off my current 10gb bill because I'm currently paying $20 for my line and it seems to say it would go down to $15 on Next.

Pretty much it. With their 60 dollar single line plan I'm going to switch to verizon from t-mo. I've been on a family plan so my bill has been pretty damn cheap but it's time for me to move on. I live in a rural area so I basically have 2g 90% of the time. My girlfriend has verizon and she constantly has an LTE connection. I feel like I have these amazing devices but I can't even use their full potential unless I have wifi.

What kind of plan do you have? The mobile share plan? I do and when I talked to the rep at the AT&T store he said I would lose my $25 discount on my monthly bill if I signed a 2 year contract instead of going through the Next program.

It's the family 10gb plan. And I didn't think about that with a new contract being agreed to and all. I guess the discount is grandfathered? So it is definitely best to go Next from now on with AT&T?

I can't tell how dark the back of the space grey is.
In some pictures it looks like this:

But in others it looks like this:

AngryChinchilla, it's a lot like the sheen of the ORIGINAL iPhone.

Just go to a store and see it on a modern iPhone or iPad; this will be the same.

6 Plus has a better screen, better battery and a better camera. And it is significant superior in these categories. Pretty important categories.

When you look at the 3S to the 4, and the 4S to the 5, there are drastic worthy chages in the models. 5S to the 6 is a 5SS if you will. The only real upgrade is the 6 Plus and it is 5.5 inches.
5S -> 6: Redesigned phone, bigger screen, better screen (contrast and viewing angle), thinner, slightly improved battery life, NFC, more powerful internal hardware, better camera. EDIT: Also got a boost in wireless speed.

4S -> 5: Redesigned phone, bigger screen, thinner, lighter, slightly improved battery life, more powerful hardware, better camera. EDIT: LTE support.

Yes I think it's grandfathered in. I switched to the same 10gb mobile shared plan earlier this year and my bill went down. Right now they are charging $15 per device but the rep said if I signed a 2 year contract it would go up to $40 per device. I would be paying an extra $25 a month for 2 years ($600) plus the up front cost of the phone ($400 for me) plus the $40 activation fee. That's $1040 which is way more then just using the next plan to pay the cost o f the phone ($850) over 20 months.

here is the guide:

If you have the unlimited plan:

You pay $60 approx for Phone, $30 for data, if you get the 64 gb iphone 6+ it will be 440$ one time fee for 2 years.

so 90$ before fees and $440 up front.

total cost in 12 months: $1520 aprox by September 2015.

If you have a NEXT 12 month

You pay $130 for the plan and the Phone for 12 months: $1560 by September 2015

In the AT&T next plan, technically the phone is never yours, you will always have to trade it in at a lower cost to ATT to get the next phone for 0 down where as in the unlimited data, you own the phone at the end of the contract and can unlock and sell it for more than the trade in and technically cover the entire up front cost of the phone.

I just don't know anymore.. can I purchase two phones from T-Mobile's site, without having an account with them, and still qualify for having my Verizon cancellation fee paid? Do I just walk into a T-Mobile store after I receive my new phones?

I don't think you have to trade in your phone with the next plan. It gives you the option of trading it in for a new phone every 12 or 18 months but you are not required to. You can pay it off in 20-24 months and then after that the phone is yours.

Apologies LOL.

I think I'm just bitter that by upgrading, I'm losing my Verizon unlimited plan.

What about calling them up and switching to 6 GB, I've heard of success stories doing this. If you use less than 6 GB.

I want the space gray, but i will never ever buy a iPhone again that comes in a different colour than the colour of the material beneath the anodised colour.

My black iphone 5 looks HORRIBLE, the anodising comes off to easy and that lighter aluminium colour sticks out and makes the phone look like crap.

This is too true, oh iPhone 5... what you should/could have been. I think silver is a good bet, but I think the transition from a chamfered edge into a curved edge will hopefully solve this problem.

Ah, so I forgot about that. I will be selling my 5 on my own, essentially covering the original cost. With Next, you trade in your phone only for the sake of ending your payments early. So you basically are out $380 and the phone if you do ATT Next, but if you pay upfront, it's $340 (activation included) and you get to sell the phone for $250+ at the end. The catch is, I guess it might kill my discount to do a new 2 year contract.

ATT website says their support is available every day till 3am. Figures all departments say they're closed tonight so I can't ask.

Wasn't this rectified with 5s? The Space Gray color is much closer to the aluminum on Macs and the iPhone 2G/4/4S.

You have the Slate aluminum. They changed it to Space Grey with 5S/6 because of that problem you described. Space Grey is pretty close to the aluminum color so scratches are way less visible, though still not great.

Guys I can't decide on the 6 or 6+ and what color.. but for sure I am going 128gb.

I originally wanted the Gold Iphone 6+ 128gb... but I am leaning more towards the silver and black also add to that the 6+ might not even fit in my pocket.

I wanted 6+ earlier but after really seeing the size I decided 6. Silver will look better I think.

What are you looking to buy? Carrier?
