Why would he apologize? Its his job to try to predict the market. Does the weatherman apologize every time it rains when he/she says it won't?

He doesn't have to apologise for a wrong prediction, but to dismiss people who challenged his predictions as fanboys made him look pathetic.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
I can't imagine what would have happend if Destiny got around 90 metacritc...

Nothing. It sold purely on hype, first 2-3 week buyers don't give a shit about the reviews. But bad word of mouth and bad reviews are going to hurt long term. So game will not have leg after couple of months and if things don't change then they will have hard time selling the DLC. So if the reviews were 90+, it would have continued to sell well beyond September.

Sony’s co-marketing deal for Destiny helped the PlayStation 4, but Microsoft had some good luck with its own free-game promotion as well.

Consumers spent $1.1 billion on new physical games and consoles at U.S. retailers during the five-week period from Aug. 31 to Oct. 4. That is up 2 percent from $1.08 billion over a similar period in 2013. The year-long trend of new-console sales making up for lackluster software continued once again.

Hardware sales generated $432.7 million in revenue at retail in the U.S. That is up 136 percent from last September’s $183.4 million. Gamers also spent more than twice as much on buying new consoles compared to August. That’s likely thanks to the release of publisher Activision’s massively successful sci-fi shooter Destiny.

As well as Destiny might have sold, it wasn’t enough to match last year’s gigantic September. Consumers only spent $481.2 million on new games at retail, which is down 36 percent from $754 million in September last year.

Sony has issued a statement on its performance for the month of September in advance of this evening’s NPD report. The publisher says that Activision’s Destiny broke PlayStation Store sales records for first day, first week, and pre-orders.

PlayStation 4 also won the month in the United States. The publisher says that it sold three times as many consoles, including bundles, over August 2014.

Sony says that revenue for the PlayStation Store is up 90 percent over September 2013

Disagree you can see that in UK charts as how Destiny has fallen.

360 (Halo 3 release Sept. 2007) : 527.8k
PS4 (Destiny release 2014) : 550k?

Hopefully more people understand that a game does not have to be exclusive to be a system seller.
I feel like it sold more PS4 consoles as a multiplat over exclusive. The hype reached unreal levels. It would have been heavily scrutinized otherwise.

No but I don't get paid for my predictions and my Twitter comments getting quoted from Nasdaq :p

I hadn't thought about that. A Pachter quote actually could effect stocks. If ran in investors publications. Surely not this quote but he has a lot of power.

"Bad word of mouth" ... hah.

Destiny still has great word of mouth. Have you looked at your friend's list lately? On both Xbox One and Playstation 4 it's Destiny, Destiny, Destiny.

Well that's my prediction of the Xbox One winning shot out into outer space lol. I think I just put too much faith in Pachter. Not only was he was incorrect he was massively incorrect. His numbers weren't even in the same ballpark. Good for Sony! So glad that they're doing well. This is what happens when you laser focus your console on gamers and build a powerful and brilliant machine. They deserve all of their success. And this is coming from a lifelong Xbox fan.

Also ~550K sold for the month is insane. Ridiculously high sales.

My god how is this even possible with that marketing deal that went into overdrive?

A good way for MS to boast as because PS Destiny bundles don't count, MS's free give away (even though it's essentially a bundle) does count.

Because tons of people bought the game with the bundle?
Seems like many new customers were waiting for Destiny as the reason to buy a PS4.
At the same time Bungie's name is still strong among the Xbox fanbase.

Btw lol at Pachter's prediction, huge win for PS4 this month, didn't expect them to break the 500k barrier.
