CFB Week 9: Humble Pie, Driskel, 280,000 defrees, Driskel, riots, and more Driskel

He's a damn good DC. I'd be cool with Muschamp being FSU's DC next season. That'd be pretty ideal, frankly.

Ugh. It'll probably happen too.

I still can't believe our defense gave up only two scores and 119 yards, yet it was 42-13.

edit: yay, new page. No more Driskel glimpse when reloading.

Oh hey, Archie Manning is dropping out of the committee, the week of the first vote. Health reasons.

Enjoy your playoffs!

Oh, and no fill in for his spot. They're letting him back in next year.

Could he even be considered impartial with Ole Miss in the hunt?

Get lou Holtz in there to replace him.

Blessed man still keeps ND in the playoff... I admire his passion, but let's be realistic. Still need to win the next five games, look good, and hope for some more clusterfucks for other one-loss teams.

He really is. Despite having such thin numbers (and talent) to work with, the secondary is showing real signs of improvement in being in the right place and there to contest passes and pick balls off. When he starts getting the guys he wants (if he sticks around), he could really have a great defense.

That's what's so crazy about Muschamp. Their defense is still really great, but Driskel is so bad that it doesn't matter. Thing is, anybody would be better than Driskel. I don't see why he won't take a chance with someone else rather than being so stubborn.

Don't really get the bolded statement. This is his 4th season there. He should have the guys he wants already.

I don't follow Gata enough to know about attrition or things like that but everybody on the roster that's not a 5th year senior was signed under his watch.

It was maddening how long Harris was on the bench. He messed up early, but Driskel is a proven fuckup and Harris just made a freshman mistake.

Sorry, I may not have been clear who I was talking about. I'm talking about Jeremy Pruitt, our defensive coordinator. His first year on the job. Not talking about Muschamp until my second paragraph.

Muschamp has had plenty of time to prove himself. As much as I love him being there, he's not head coach material. I'm glad the Gatas found out and not us. He needed to take Driskel out permanently last year.

Exactly. Harris is going to make some dumb mistakes because he's a freshman. But he's probably going to make some good plays too. Driskel isn't going to make any good plays, and he's going to continue shooting your defense in the foot over and over. Driskel being out there over and over has to be one of the worst things about being a Florida fan right now.

A walk-on would be a better option.

I just look at Gators (Meyer or Muschamp recruited) that are now playing in the NFL. Like Hammond Jr. Or Burton. They are producing and even starting. There is a serious lack of talent development on offense.

Plus Pease set us back so far. No o-line recruiting to speak of. Missing the boat on key talent. And telling the WR coach to back off Rudolph and Cooper. The seven step drops. 14 seconds in the pocket to develop a play.

Ah. I probably would have gotten that if I had gone back to the original post that Meier was quoting.

Muschamp doesn't know his ass from his elbow when it comes to recruiting offensive players. And while the defense is good, there are no outstanding players who blow you away with their play. Our best player might be Hargreaves, and he's incredibly inconsistent.

Muschamp's first weakness is his subpar recruiting at what was the best program in the state. His second failing is his stubborn loyalty to Driskel. Whatever he promised him to get him signed was far too much. I want to find my posts from the first games Driskel played for us. I picked up on his shortcomings immediately. I think I've said from day 1 that kid isn't worthy of being called a Florida QB. He somehow managed to be worse than the failed project that was Trey Burton at QB.

This is not hyperbole, folks. This is the worst Gators team, and Driskel is the worst Gators QB I have ever seen. I've been watching the team closely since the 90s, and we have hit bottom this year. If the Dolphins can't get Harbaugh, I'd love for the Gators to make a run at him. Get his recruiting and passion in this football rich state, in a big money conference like the SEC? Hell yeah. PEACE.

Harbaugh would be short term. I'd like Mullen. Starkville has one wal-mart and is less than an hour from Tuscaloosa. Anyone that can win there...

Muschamp stuck with Driskel because he really thought that was the best chance. And that's why Muschamp has to go.

Edit: Cris Collinsworth was the worst QB we had

Has Driskel officially unseated Chris Rix as the worst QB in the state of Florida?

Chris Rix wasn't that bad. Xavier Lee was worse than Rix.

Rix gets a bad rap because he was a douchey average qb at the same time as our dip into mediocrity.

You have to remember those were the Jeff Bowden days.

He was apparently shot amid crossfire. damn

His mother apparently told somebody that it was a stab wound from an altercation he wasn't really a part of, but he was in a boot after getting hurt during the game and couldn't get out of the way. Says he's more beat up from the game than from the events Saturday night, so he's hopeful that he'll get to play on Saturday but it will just depend on how quickly it heals.

Has Driskel officially unseated Chris Rix as the worst QB in the state of Florida?

Is Kyle Wright in the conversation?

This is really unfair to Rix. He was actually above average. There were a lot of other things going on in the program that contributed to the dropoff, and Rix had to follow up after Chris Weinke, who had an insane run at FSU QB.

When I think of hilarious interceptions, I think of Chris Rix.

thanks for the updates. Gotta keep calm. I'm used to seeing my team choke. Especially the Titans, losing a 25 pt lead and then losing to Colt McCoy!!

Colt McCoy fellas

I'd just like to point out the last QB to beat FSU was Jeff Driskel.

Orange Power is in full meltdown mode because we're finally having a down year after a run of unprecedented success.

I'm just hoping we can beat WVU and Texas at home and not look embarrassingly outmatched in the other road games.

When i think of Chris Rix I think of a hilarious blown call leading into a long touchdown pass to win the game late in Gainesville while I am in the student section cheering and thinking about how i am about to get my ass kicked. But Florida fans are too classy for that. For fucks sake, they aren't Miami fans.

The thing is he'd score plenty of points and look good and then WOOPS RIX'D for a pick-six. It was maddening but he was at least putting points on the board and moving the football most of the time. At that point all of us in Tallahassee had been spoiled by like 11 years of excess and Rix had to take it on the chin.

He was honestly a better athlete and more consistent performer than two of Tallahassee's elder deacons, Peter Tom Willis and Danny Kannell, names you will hear very few in the city ever speak ill of.

No news out of the UAA for two weeks, according to the best sourced reporters. Which means, lose to Georgia, you go immediately.

I don't really see the advantage of a mid season firing. I think Muschamp is gone but it just won't be announced till the end of the season.

Never worried about getting into a fight in Tally. Or even Baton Rouge.

But Miami...

My wife has a very negative reaction to football (due to a former husband's obsessiveness with NFL) but I still keep up with the college scene as much as I can, and try to get to one FSU game a year (though being in Tallahassee while FSU was in Raleigh this year might mean I brick).

Muschamp's safe until the end of the year unless the team is literally on the brink of collapse. One humiliation and a 3-3 schedule don't equal that. The only way I could see him being replaced is if there was a interim head coach who might make a reasonable permanent head coach ready to hire right now.

The wife is pretty understanding as long as I keep the honey-do list in check. I'm not above bribing with known-favorite home-cooked meals if there are multiple games I'd like to see.

So after laying an egg last week, we get #14 Arizona State as our next game.

Sigh.

I think a loss would still have us on track for the Vegas Bowl, though, so not all is lost.

It's very likely that Taylor Kelly will be back for this game, too.
