Hi guys - Thanks for the interest. Happy to answer questions about the show here on GAF.
If Vegas were a touch closer to Toronto I would have loved to witness this first hand, because I think this has great potential now that cable television no longer has a hand in advertising to muck things up.
My question is with regards to when you say this event is 'a celebration of the medium in light of recent events' (mobile makes it difficult to go back, find and quote your exact words). How will you be addressing these events? I can understand it's meant to be a joyful occasion meant to bring people's attention back to what we care about, which should be video games, but to be frank doxxing and death threats against personalities alongside SWATting on Twitch and other streaming services against fellow players would need one helluva rug to be swept under. Sure, our medium is meant to be evolving into something more mature, but this is a very extreme transition that I feel should not be the case.
I mean, on the one hand it would be ballsy to bring out Anita Sarkeesian et al. if only for a fraction of the show, but the Pandora's Box it would open on your new baby leads me to believe it very unlikely to happen.
Cool beans. Will surely tune in because I have nothing else to do and I love me some world premieres. One question though, if successful, will the show only take place in Vegas every year or will there be different venues the following years?
Will you give us any more gif worthy moments Geoff? I need more sensual lip licking.
I love you.
How are the awards decided in this show? Do we know?
Hope its not one of those awards where you have too pay an entry fee too even be nominated.
No entry fee to be nominated.
Voted on my worldwide media in most categories, there are also a few fan categories too. Will share more about this next week.
Nice looking forward too hear moreNo entry fee to be nominated.

What beverage and snack should I indulge myself in while watching the show?Hi guys - Thanks for the interest. Happy to answer questions about the show here on GAF.

I imagine it's not as enticing if you don't expect to either A.) win awards or B.) reveal games.
Everyone else there probably expects to do (or at least feels good about overall) one of the two or is a platform vendor.
Is Kojima already there?
So it'll air on Wii U and Reggie is on the advisory council but Nintendo isn't one of the backers? I'm taking it that NoJ couldn't be convinced then.
Well, Valve certainly won't get awards since they haven't shipped a game this year, which leaves the other two. So, you're saying there's a chance for B ?
Kojima is on the advisory board.
I don't know if these questions has already been asked Geoff, so apologies if they have but here I go: Last year, the documentary clip about the doctor and the body-builder taking part in the Donkey Kong tournament was probably one of the few highlights of a weak VGX award show. Will we see a similar feature during the Game Awards this year? Also, will you be hosting it in addition to producing it, or will you be taking a backseat in favour of someone else?
EDIT: Also I forgot to ask; I assume this'll be streamed internationally, as it always has been (EU-Ireland)?
i just wanted to co-sign the idea presented earlier of troy baker co-hosting and/or doing music at the show
Yes full global stream.
That Vice story/package was cool. Definitely looking to see what we can do with short films inside the show, we will see where we get with that.
I don't think I'll be hosting the show, still figuring that out.
One of my other biggest concerns, and this has been expressed by others, is that there is a level of class that this event needs to have. That it doesn't insult the viewer and cater to the lowest common dominator that are only tuning in for the music acts and crude and outright insulting jokes. Sadly I think that is what the VGAs end up being regardless of what it was intended on being at first. Perhaps because there will be no cable advertising interference this won't happen but I think the concern should be expressed.
Many want the games industry it to be viewed as important and respectable as any other industry but representations of it have to hold themselves to a certain standard. By treating such an event like this as another trade show (E3 ala the Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Not Ubisoft, etc.) or high profile award show (BAFTA, Oscars) and less like the MTV movie/music awards and certainly no where near what the VGA's devolved into. That might include possibly boring some people and educating them on various fronts so they have a appreciation of what goes into the games they enjoy or possibly just toss aside without a care. Addressing some problems within the industry and praising the good that is being done.
This might be asking to much. However with this being a fresh start it's at least an opportunity to walk in this direction. It's your baby and I know you have a vision of what you want it to be. These are just some concerns I and I'm sure others have as well.
That doesn't mean there isn't fun to be had and jokes to tell. However that this is being done to represent and to celebrate a billion dollar industry who's customers and fans range from children to grandparents, across a wide spectrum of economic classes and cultures should be remembered.
Thanks. Definitely been thinking about this a lot. Not sure I have the answer quite yet, but it's something I am pondering. Certainly open to suggestions.

Steam is also streaming the event, like PSN and XBL.Nah, I think they're there because they're sort of like a platform vendor and they intend to run a sale on the games getting awards.
It's not impossible they reveal a game. They usually prefer Game Informer though.
The part in VGA (or VGX?) with Gustavo Santolaria performing TLOU theme was great.I think a good inspiration is the show about The Last of Us they had a few months ago and Geoff produced it.
Great news.Excellent note, I am going to print it out and show it to people working on the show.

Wasn't that in the The Last of Us show I referred to?
You should at least co-host or spend sometime on stage.

Anyone think Fallout 4 will be revealed ?
