Curious to see what direction EO5 will go, if the new logo is any indication. The old logos favoured old-style serifs to match a story book feel (especially with the Roman numerals). The Untold game then updated the look a little and used Arabic numerals, but this one looks even more different. The main text has transitional-style characters, so they's still relatively limited contrast between thick and thin lines, but now that V is a ridiculous modern-style serif with really exaggerated line contrast. Combine that with the English text now being included, and I'm wondering if this is their way of communicating that the series is going to drift towards a new direction.

I've never played a mystery dungeon game before, but if there's a solid gameplay pedigree there you can sign me right the hell up.

I could understand bits of it but not the whole thing. I might try to piece it together to do a rough translation but I'm at work so can't make any promises about being able to spend time on it until later.
Here are some questions if you need them:
1. Which game should I start with?
2. Do I need to play the previous games / Is there an overarching story?
3. Do I have to draw the map? I'm lazy.
4. Help! I can't kill Hollow Queen!
5. Are there any other (modern?) games like EO?

1 - I think this is a good idea to add (I will put EOIV and EOU as the answer unless someone makes a strong case otherwise)
2 - This is actually in the first main section of the OP.
3 - This is also in the OP already under the mapping part.
4 - This is really specific, but can add it since it does get asked a lot.
5 - I like this idea but I don't know what to put here, suggestions? Edit: Besides PersonaQ, of course.

Just a spin-off not like Atlus is actually gonna go in that direction with the series. And I'm not worried about EOV not being on 3DS. Most I could see is it also maybe going to Vita or WiiU and that's a long shot.

EO on Wii U is my dream game but it would be the biggest flop of all time.
I'd buy 100 copies of the game if it ever comes out haha.
First-person dungeon crawlers or games as close to Etrian as possible? If the latter, Generation Xth, Wizardry, and Labyrinth of Touhou are good games (and I know nothing about Touhou). I'm sure there are others, but that's all I can recall off the top of my head that haven't been mentioned.
Wasn't there a CT for niche dungeon crawlers? I think I saw a link to it not long ago, but it was an old thread and I don't remember what it was called to search for it. It may be outdated but it could be something to link to in terms of other games at least in the same ballpark (FPDC), even if they aren't "like EO."
Closest one is probably Strange Journey.
Other than that, any Wizardry clone is close enough.

I feel the same, I thought everyone knew that I consider EO3 to be the best game of the series.
Who the hell doesn't like EO3 the best, the classes and everything are so awesome. EO4 was just an awesome jump to HD(lol 240p) and it's pretty friendly for newcomers, it's also the most balanced entry of the series.

3 still is the best by far. I still didnt like how 4 went backwards with the classes. D: Its why I quit playing the classes bored me. Even though the airship stuff was amusing.

I can't go back to the old DS-based ones because the interface is so clunky by comparison. Wait for the remake with proper skill trees and better mapping.

Couldn't agree more.
There was just something about three that sealed this franchise as one of my favorite. Probably has a lot to do with Labyrinth II and Labyrinth III aka THE FLOOR IS NOW LAVA HOPE YOU PREPARED FOR THAT SOME TIME AGO!

Yep no problem. Im a bit busy at the moment, so all of those were just ones I had subscribed to outside of the Wizardry one, that one popped up when was looking for the western dungeon crawler community thread.
Know there are other OTs, but dont have the time to search atm.
