DRIVECLUB |OT2| You Can't Rush Evolution

You can buy replacements and it's a pretty easy fix. Last time I looked (couple months ago) you could only get them from China (2-5 weeks shipping) and they were kinda expensive, but now I see Amazon has them, $11 and change for 5 pairs, free 2-day shipping with Prime. I just placed an order. I have four DS4s with broken R2s.

Four! What the fuck?

Thanks for the info though, I will see if they're available in the UK, if not it might just be worth going the Sony route.

Either won or came second place in all of my online races and multiplayer time trials today. Feels good, especially given I'm not even that good, and when luck plays a fairly big role lol. Carnage I tell you. One guy was straight ramming me over and over, but the new tweaks make it so you can maintain traction and not spin out if you're belligerent enough.

It's became painfully obvious that my feeble hands and mind have reached their limit on DC and age (39) is counting against me.

Whilst time trialling one of the new tracks (to learn so when I eventually do a challenge I won't come up terribly short) my wife dared speak to me and broke my concentration. Which wasn't too hard, feeble mind and all.

Bang, threw the controller in disgust (first time since I got the ps4) and got on the wrong side of my wife in the process.

Going to have to accept that there are some unbelievably talented guys out there AND I'M NOT BLOODY ONE OF THEM!!

My R2 button just broke while playing. It started to stick halfway, had a look and it seems one of the cheap little plastic hinges is broken. Fucking cheap piece of shit. My only pad too.

Same thing happened to me. A temporary solution is to just remove the spring and it will work almost identical to how it did before. I bought myself another controller as I wanted to play there and then but it is more than serviceable without the spring and as the poster said above it is cheap to fix, or you could send it back to Sony if you are still in warranty.

You have to go in and set the screen size in your PS4 menu, I believe. For whatever reason it may not be set correctly even though other games look fine.

Whatever it was, the latest patch seemed to fix it without my needing to mess around with any settings. I was initially playing with just the initial disc install.

Now I just need to figure out how to play this game. The handling feels quite a bit different than other racing games I've played.

I just got to try the time trial mode.. and is excellent.. my only issue is, if you already started your last lap when the timer ends, you should be allowed to finish it.

Welp, just hit 405/405! I can't remember the last time I got such satisfaction out of conquering a racing game.

Interesting note on Venom HL1- I had beaten HL2 awhile back, tried HL1 here a week or so ago for about 15 minutes and could only muster two stars. First attempt tonight I nailed the third star like it was nothing. Feels good man.

What a treat this game is. The visuals, the handling model, the AI difficulty, the competitive focus- everything just dialed in. So glad I jumped in when I did (around xmas).

Please try this before you buy a new one:

Open up the controller and remove the spring attached to the R2 button - that's it! It will still work with the broken hinge when you take out the spring.

My controller works perfectly - see this guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYaYks2o2Qg

I agree, and to combat ppl wasting time have their lap end as soon as their last lap time exceeds their fastest.

Going to phone Sony tomorrow and see how long a replacement will be. If not I will try this, thanks.
same thing happened to my controller that came with my system a week or so ago - used their online support, told them I wanted a warranty replacement, and sent a picture of my receipt

I got an e-mail and an address to ship my controller to immediately after the conversation ended (paid ~3 dollars for shipping), and they got it a few days later on a Monday

Wednesday I got an e-mail saying it was on its way and to expect 3-5 business day wait, but Thursday I received the new one via FedEx

Man, that drift event in the electric car in the Photo Finish DLC was a tough one. That was until I realised the trick to it was to get the right balance between maximizing the angle of the drift, and keeping my speed high enough so I could link them together. Cool event, I enjoyed that one.

Aside from the Hatches that's the only drift event I've 3*d and I got that after one attempt!

Dat torque vectoring.

Unless you're talking about the Dezir one, which is an asshat.

The Japan playlist is giving me the best races I've had in awhile. Full grids with good racers who aren't complete dicks.

I've got a relatively free day today so DC will be getting some loving! Gotta get GAF UK CS up to level 40, currently 5m points away.

What I liked about that one was that a day or two before I had multiple attempts on a Solo Challenge with that car/track combo so when it came up in the Photo sector I nailed it. _b

Last night I drove laps in one challenge I had gotten from a Gaffer for around 40 minutes, trying to get a clean enough lap for me to be satisfied. And behold: I was not even the last one in the chart. I think I was 4th or 5th with three or four people behind me. Hurray! Progress! It felt good!

Then I looked at the stats.

Me: 22 tries
Everyone else: 1 try each

My time is probably going to be destroyed when the other participants notice my climb and put on some more effort. Oh well, ups and downs.

The brightness looks pretty good to me, but I wouldn't mind having some in-game exposure/contrast video settings. I think what you're seeing in Chile is pretty much how it is in the real part of Chile that Evo used as a template, it's a pretty drab looking environment.

xibwzr.png

If they made the brightness setting stronger I feel the cockpit view would be way too overdone in brightness considering how bright it already gets when you're in the shadows under the trees. Highly depends on the track and a specific area within it though.
Yeah I hear what you're saying and made a good point, especially the cockpit views but I guess it depends moreso what cars you're using.

For instance...the last pic you quoted of the Zonda R in cockpit actually looks fine in terms of brightness because its quite dark and very cramped inside the car and visibilty is not great. Same as a Koeniggsegg or Lykan cockpit...so the camera compensates by increasing exposure to make the overall scene brighter.

Try the same in a GTA Spano, standard Ferrari 458 or even a Pagani Huayra and you'll see it gets slightly drab and dim looking in sunny conditions. It's also more apparent in general in the external views.

Imho, its not such a big deal but I think the exposure/brightness could be turned up slightly but not so much where it runs the risk of being overdone in cockpit mode as you said benzy

So I reached level 22 and I must say that the constant bumper car racing is starting to piss me off...

I mean the gameplay is pretty much bumper car racing and the fact that most tracks are ridiculously narrow makes things worse.

I dont understand why make such narrow tracks... You have an arcade racer, you know that if you make narrow roads, gameplay is gonna look like destruction derby.

I think the game could remain perfectly arcade if it didnt involve just so much crashing constantly. It is virtualy impossible to finish most races without crashing one way or another, and no i dont "suck" i am at 115 or so stars and hardly had any problems. Many times its just the ai crashing on to you anyways.

On another note, is it possible to disable damage from cars? Since the game is mostly about crashing your way to the checkered flag, i would at least want my car to look good.

I think you just got lucky bud!

The races I had on the first track (can't remember the name) were a real crash fest unless you got clear at the start and the race I had on lake Shoji in the hypers was just like I was the only one who knew the track (which may well have been the case). Hopefully that'll improve as peeps get used to them.

I finished the night on the old tracks and had this...

http://youtu.be/ddxWNg184X0

3 times I try to pass the leader and he deliberately tried to put me in the barrier every time. Wish the game had a way of detecting and punishing this.

Sploatee, I'll join your club, as long as you don't mind having a part-time member!

(also, let's hang out this weekend mate, I'll pop round Saturday or Sunday and we can play some Mario Kart! I can finally get infamous back too, haha.)

I didn't know you had this! Yeah sure. I'll think of a stupid name. Right now I quite like "steady on, love".

Or we could just go with "BritGAF".

Sure! I'll speak to E.

If I remember right GRID had the option to vote on kicking someone from the game. It wasn't perfect if you were going against a group of friends or if other people didn't see the accident but it was better than nothing. Sadly not a lot of people play fair in mp. :/ Imo it was better a few months ago when the community wasn't so big.

You guys think their is any chance of them adding a Fiat 500 or Abarth in a future expansion? That is basically the only thing that is holding me back from getting the season pass. As strange as that may sound.

That would be nice and it works nicely in real life (like in the F1 qualifiers), but there is a potential drawback in this game. When should the game stop the timer and move on the the next time trial? The easiest way is to add the then fastest lap time to the initial time and when that expires too, move on the the next time trial. But what if no one is really trying anymore, because of e.g. worsened track conditions? Everyone would just have to sit it out, getting bored. That's not too bad on a very short track, but on the longer P2P ones, the quick paced setup the multi player time trial mode now has, would be lost.

Yeah that wouldn't really work in DC as the lobby is shuffled every race but it could be that if they are reported multiple times they can only get in races with other bashers for a while. I think pre Christmas was pretty good driving wise but then a lot of new guys have come on and have resorted to bashing to try to compete.

Yes & no - it's a logical car to add to hot hatch, and there's been no new cars added to that category, but there's no other Fiats in the game yet (unless you count Ferrari's) so can't say whether it'll happen or not.

Shan, that's why I just stick to challenges and now Mutli TT. There's no skill or fun in crashfests. It's not just DC of course but given it's currently in the limelight there's probably more attention on it. Great that you won that race though 8)

Yes, finally managed the DeZir Drift, after countless attempts.

F You Renault DeZir, and F You Driveclub drift physics!
Had difficulty with that. But after doing the same track in a challenge it's peanuts for me. It's quite satisfying to get pushed by a challenge and owning your own score by a wide margin.

I still have hope. I don't really get the blatant neglect of the hatches. They are like the few cars in the game that the players may actually own.

I've returned to DC and was wondering how much of an impact being or not being in a club has on the overall experience? My wifi connection is dodgy at best which isn't a big deal since I hardly play multiplayer and am very happy with just going through career mode. I even grabbed the season pass as a reflection of my new found appreciation for the game. Thats not to say I have no interest in joining a club, and if it is worthwhile, I'll run a wire to my ps4 to get more online stability.

Is it me, or have the graphics been upgraded since launch?

Lack of club cars primarily.

It is satisfying to finally nail it.

Even though Evo say the physics haven't been changed in the latest patch, I am convinced they have, tyre grip appears to have been increased and weight transfer appears to have been tweaked too........

If / when you make a club, send some challenges for the club called NVR Alone. It's a new club with people more or less new to the game.

ps. I like "Steady on, love" nice americana ring to it (in my ears anyway)

Finally picked this up. Was really hesitant on buying this as the drifting videos I've watched of this game didn't seem like the type of tire/drifting model I am looking for in a racing game.

So two hours in and so far the drifting/tire model is okay, but kinda not what I'm looking for in regards to "feel." Funny enough I ranked 1st (in rain drifting ) for one of the Japan tracks.

There is a vid on youtube, but you can fix them. Take the DS4 apart and remove the spring located on the R2 button (this is why it sticks) then put the R2 button back on and your good to go. It feels different but it doesn't stick, it's a good temp measure. I have gone through three now, will take this one back to asda in a couple of months and get a new one. The problem seems to be caused dabbing the throttle or single shot guns in other games, as these are the kind of games where mine have broke, hopefully they'll revise the design soon as otherwise it's a great controller, just made out of cheese.

EDIT.... beaten like most of my challenges :(

It probably depends on how popular are the hot hatches races amongst the community. I enjoy them both in sp & mp and I still play them regularly, but I'm afraid there may be a lot of players only interested in faster classes.

This, many people just enjoy the fast cars, those of us who know better can know just how much enjoyment can come from racing Hot Hatches and the slower cars ;)

How am I meant to ram you into the barrier @40mph?

Traveling @200mph in my Zondazzzzzzzzzzz can take 6 cars out on the first corner.

Yeah had some good races last night in the hot hatch class, sometimes find that it's not as frantic and people are wiping out everyone in the first corner, it's more about drafting and taking the right lines for corners.

I believe it was a huge mistake to make most tracks so narrow. It is the reason why this thing is a crash fest most of the time, be it online or offline.

That's probably why people are loving the Japan tracks as well, more room for side by side racing without the need for taking each other out.

Yep, game needs more of that.

I am pretty certain the narrow tracks werent originally designed for such racing as we see it now.

It just doesnt make sense to put 12 hyper cars in twisty roads that barely fit 2 of them side by side. These tracks are lovely to sport some time trials or drifting, but the head on racing is kinda shit really.

I disagree, as I find that (clean) racing on narrow tracks is more challenging, and hence more exciting.
The narrow tracks also reflect how most roads look life in real life (i.e. two lanes).

When you get in a good lobby I don't think there's anything that can beat an online race - I had a evening with 6 of us in a party and a lot of the events were like having private servers and the difference was immense. Challenges and multi TT are brilliant but some of my clubmates just want to race online.

Yeah winning the race eased the pain :)

Wait, are you telling me that you can actually perform clean racing on these tracks offline and online...?!?

I find it virtualy impossible. Hell I rarely overtake someone without having some kind of contact with him. If I go too conservative then I will come last. Clean but last. I thought of actually responding with the "i dont believe you" gif! :D

During offline AI will just ram you one too many times. During Online I dont even have to explain myself.

If you can manage to perform clean racing offline, then hats off to you, but I think you belong in the incredibly incredibly small minority.

This is not a game that is set up for clean racing. It is actually set up as bumper car racing.

Also, the concept of 12 hyper cars racing in such narrow twisty roads (even if the width of the road reflects reality) is pretty nuts.
