I'm going to contrast a fair amount of the opinions here and say that I couldn't be more excited for this.
Like many of the people here, I've been with the franchise since 1942 (even though I was 8 at the time...) and it seems people seemed to have forgotten what the series is.
It was never about hardcore, sprawling modern military warfare really, it was about massive warfare in different theaters of war. We had World War II, we had Vietnam, we had the future in 2142, we had a quirky modern spin-off series in Bad Company which for many was the pinnacle of the series, and then we had the modern military warfare in Battlefield 2, 3, and 4.
Hardline is just another setting in the series but you still have the vehicles, objective focus, massive player counts and pretty much everything that made Battlefield, Battlefield. First and foremost, it's fun. It's in the same vein of the Bad Company series where it just doesn't really give a shit.
I don't know, it could just be me (and it seems like it is) but I think that the game has just gotten a bad rep from that first Beta and its probably going to hurt it a bit in sales. Here's hoping they ramp up the marketing campaign with some commercials and social media promotion and manage some decent sales because I would take a fun spin-off and creative sequel any day over another modern military entry that takes itself as seriously as a heart attack like Battlefield 4 did.
