Playstation Vue (Streaming TV Service) Launches Today Starting at $49.99

You might want to check my response.

Aint no claim, someone found my post that has my cable bill. And you can read further down to see the adjustments.

The response that conveniently leaves out taxes and fees? That response?

I know you are probably feeling picked on, but that's what happens when you insult people's intelligence, make a bold claim, and then don't back it up with evidence. You have already pushed your price up by $8. I am betting that it will go up more after further digging. If Cable was widely available at the costs you claim then no one would be clamoring for new options.

I think he means comcasts X1 box which is apparently a pile of shit. Not the XB1.

Oh, then in that case, he's right. Before I cut the cord I had Direct TV and Time Warner Cable, their cable boxes had the worst flippin' lag I'd ever seen. It made using a remote control a disgusting experience. The best box I ever used was Dish Network, and that was almost ten years ago when they released their first HD DVR boxes. I think Dish/Echostar has the best R&D of all the providers out there. I'm not surprised their the ones behind Sling TV.

Then please tell me how you are getting a free HD cable box when TWC says they cost 11.25 a month that is not included on your bill. Are you counting just getting it through the TWC app?

He's lying. I never knew there were igotbettercablethenyou warriors but Gaf has every type.

If you have a decent antenna, you get all of your locals (NBC, Fox, ABC, CBS, PBS). I get 22 channels with an indoor antenna and I don't live in the best service area (I live right beside a mountain). You can get a good one for around $20.

But I do agree that the dealbreaker for Sony is the lack of Disney/ESPN. Sling TV has that for $20, and that's really not a bad price for 20ish channels out of the box. Since my wife rarely watches TV and I only watch when my daughter is in bed, we don't need more than one steam going at once (plus we have locals on our antenna).

I was doing the whole OTA thing for awhile. But reception got progressively worth. Seemed like the stations were lowering the power output. Got tired of having to always adjust bunny ears for the VHF channels in Los Angeles to get half of the local affiliate channels. Ended up just signing up for starter tv bundle through time warner :(

You guys get cable for 50 bucks in the states? I wish... I pay about $120 for cable, internet and phone up here in Canada.

If you break your bill down. It's probably $50 cable, $50 internet and $20 phone more or less.

In the US you can get all 3 for about $80-100 prior to taxes, fees, additional channels and cost of boxes. Hence why many people pay upwards of $150.

Lol. I didnt see it that way. I just checked my bill. I paid 105 dollars total last month, total.35 dollars for the web, 62 for cable..so whats that? 7 dollars in taxes...Ill take it.

Regarding the box fee...Thats for additional boxes as far as I know. i dont pay 11.25 for mine.

Re, evidence..you mean the bill someone dug up? And sorry i was off by 8 dollars after canceling epix...i know its hard to believe but i dont rememeber how much time warner charges for every premium channel.

He's lying. I never knew there were igotbettercablethenyou warriors but Gaf has every type.

The scary part is apparently he takes screen shots of multiple bills to show them off on GAF? He's threatened to post his electric(?) bill, too. The hero we deserve!

For real, bro, let it go. You called people "morons" and got called out for it. You lied about your bill price, and the setup you are using relies on the TWC on demand app. That's not the same as a DVR, isn't as fully featured, and isn't what is being discussed in here. Take the L and move on.

So your $55 a month cable bill is actually closer to $70? Got it! It's just $15 more, what's the big deal! Buncha morons on here overpaying for their cable bills. For the record, I paid less than that when I had DirecTV, just saying.

For real, you offered up the proof. Let's see the full, unedited bill. Since you've already offered it up, and everything. I want to see the extra fee for the box and your taxes.

Maybe he is telling the truth and this guy gave him the hook up?

You should've tried the Leaf antenna. That shit is magic I swear.

The Box Fee is for every single box.

ESPN is the reason for higher cable costs in the first place. Imagine how expensive Vue will be once they lock down ESPN.

This doesn't seem like a proper cable replacement. Just a similar alternative to the garbage we have on cable right now.

Shouldn't be that much considering SlingTV includes it for $20, lol.

Threatened. I love how people read something and hear it how they want in their little brains.
Actually close to 70 because you felt like adding 7 dollars. And no I cant post my unedited bill..the amount on it is obscene and you might see it as a threat.

And go read the thread where the screenshot was from..I was responding to someone who was paying like 200 dollars for AT&T, hero.
Gotta stop arguing with ya'll..trying to play Battlefield. If you ever in Queens let me know I'll show you my bill and buy you a drink with all themoney Im saving.

I unplugged my cable sub many many years ago (8+) and have been shocked how long it's been taking to have some decent internet based subs.

I pay for Hulu+ ($7.99), Netflix ($7.99), and my Internet ($54 for 35/35) and run everything through my Rokus. Add to the the channel apps in Plex and I watch everything I want without issue and have decent fast Internet for less than $70 a month.

When I go to friends houses that have Cable TV it just is PAINFUL. Between the commercials, the interface and in some cases the quality, it reminds me why I left in the first play. Never again.

Sony has a great package and interface that IMO kills Sling (I tried Sling for 3 weeks, not for me at this time) but that price is kind of high.

$50 a month to basically watch the same content I get now for $16 with a few "live tv" perks and a shit ton of commercials? No thanks.

Call me when it is under $35.

The same $7 in taxes that you just said were on the bill? Fancy schmancy math from one of those morons you mentioned.

Take that L, son!

Sounds like almost our exact situation, except I found a dude selling yearly Hulu codes on Ebay for $35 per year. I picked up a couple of those, which puts my monthly Hulu cost at $2.92. Add in Netflix and we're sitting at $11 per month. I also did a one time purchase of a Leaf antenna for local channels + NFL on Sundays. I couldn't be happier with the setup. My wife is interested in Sling because of the HGTV offering, so we might be adding that into the mix. Would put us at $31 per month, still not bad. If I could find a subscription to just HGTV I'd be all over it.

For the record, I don't add my internet bill into the equation, because we would have that whether or not we had cable TV. It comes out to $45 per month.

Would love to sign up, but since Comcast is the only high speed internet provider in my town, they have me by the balls. 3 Mbps is $40, 6 Mbps is $50, 25 Mbps is $67 and 105 Mbps is $79. And you only get those prices of you sign up for either a phone or tv package. I'm pretty much stuck going with a bundle.

I think when comparing this to cable you have to remember that a key selling point is that there is no contract. I think many people can appreciate that fact. I just want to subscribe during baseball season, after that I can stop paying when I want.

Little brains, eh? Good to see that you aren't backing down from insulting people.

You seem really attached to this idea that you and you alone are intelligent enough to attain this magical cable bill. Everyone else is a moron, but you. If you have made it this far with that type of worldview, I doubt anything anyone tells you will change your mind. Have fun in Battlefield. I am betting that you will be the only smart player on your team.

Oh yeah, I plan on getting at least for just the Olympics.

Why don't you just fork over the $129 a year for MLB.TV and be done with it? I'm not a big baseball guy, so maybe the blackout rules would prevent you from watching your local team?

Oh yeah, I plan on getting at least for just the Olympics.

A local antenna should give you the full Olympic coverage for free in HD. NBC, baby. You wouldn't get the stuff shown on NBC Sports, but all the heavy hitters get put on the main network for free. Swimming, basketball, track and field, etc.

Blackout rules (if you live in the local market).

Yeah, pretty much worthless if you live near your team. That's unfortunate. I could definitely make use of this to watch the Royals out here in Colorado, but I'm about as fairweather as they come in terms of baseball viewing.

I saw an article on Vue and was thinking what a lot of people in this thread are thinking, "What is Sony thinking!?" lol

I like the direction that Sling TV is going in and they are adding more shows to their line up without changing the pricing as far as I can tell, but who knows what the future holds. For now Netflix and Sling TV is all the TV I want.

I like the smaller sports. I need tons of Curling, Modern Pentathlon, and the like. Last Olympics I used my antenna and a cheap OTA DVR, but the experience kinda blew. The Cloud DVR alone will be worth it for me.

And just to put a point on pricing, This 2014 FCC report puts the average cost of expanded basic cable at $66.

If you pay 100 dollars a month for CABLE TV then you are an idiot.
I pay 55 and have HBO, Showtime, Encore and every basic channel.

You must be on your first year then.

Those promotion prices save you the first year ( or 2 ) but after that, you are going to get rammed hard. I just got hit last month with a 105$ bill from DirectTV with no cable channels and dont even have fox sports channels, any of them not even SW which would be local for us.

I will have to call em up and threaten to leave to get my old price of $39 a month back

My folks and some friends are on Uverse and have a 69 - 99$ bill that is still within the promotion period. Those will go up to $149 or more once that is over.

That price outright kills it for me. As it is, I'm kinda on the edge with the cheaper Sling right now... The Xbone app added value, for sure, but the channel selection still isn't what I'd call fantastic, and the inconvenience of having to switch apps for local channels kinda sours it. If they could integrate live locals into the Sling app, or Sling channels into the OTA app (One Guide should be a no-brainer, but so far, no integration), I think we'd have a winner.

It would cost me less to add TV to my cable internet package and I'd get more channels. Plus, if/when Comcast adds data caps to my area, it won't cut into that.

Would love to sign up, but since Comcast is the only high speed internet provider in my town, they have me by the balls. 3 Mbps is $40, 6 Mbps is $50, 25 Mbps is $67 and 105 Mbps is $79. Ouch. I'm lucky to live in a fairly competitive area. Not at my address, but the surrounding area. New apartment buildings nearby get 100/200 Mbps fiber for $35/mo.

I'm on an intro offer from Comcast. $50/mo 105 Mbps, HBO, basic cable, no caps.

I don't find the interface on the X1 laggy at all. Sure, there has been a few hiccups with Sling, but they just pushed out an update. It's pretty impressive that just 24 hours after release there's already an update that addressed some of the issues yesterday.

https://onedrive.live.com/redir?res...315&authkey=!ACYqjqV8i-m3j74&ithint=video,mp4

I meant the Comcast X1 platform lol. It's so laggy and garbage. I regret the $300 I'm paying for it just to have a cool DVR box. That's my thing with the price of this. I only pay for Internet and pay $50 for this and I'm still breaking even. I don't have to deal with no extra fees on top of just having the channels I want. I'm definitely going to try this mostly because I really like the DVR function and I just don't have to deal with Comcast shit. On top of that, I'm still buying sling TV for the extras because I still break even with that as well.

Half the price, and the ESPN family of networks. You know, sports. Half the reason live TV is still a thing.

Sports goes beyond ESPN. ESPN isn't the all encapsulation of live sports. There are also other reasons to watch live TV other than sports. Plus you still are ignoring the fact that it's only one stream, lacks channels, and lacks DVR capabilities where as the Vue has that aspect. So again, how is that a billion times better when it's missing key functionality that the competition has?

Not sure if serious.

Being included with PS Plus is a joke, but why did you quote PlayStation TV? That definitely should have been a platform Sony put it on.

Lovely idea but many of those channels are owned by three our four companies total and require you to bundle them together in their contracts otherwise you don't get any of their programming.

This. This is how it works. This is why all providers are forced to bundle. The content providers know that nobody is going to buy Jewelry TV a la carte so they bundle it along with the rest of the channels they own. The cable providers don't have an option.

People here going crazy over ESPN..This is just like PlayStation Now scenario or any other PS Service, it will grow over time and will remain at the same price. Not like Sling TV or Netflix each year as they add more it will cost more.
