DLC is up in the US. May be the last time I use my phone as a hotspot to get DLC for this game at work ;_;7

Also you've got about 5 hours to get score submissions in.

There's a lot of glaring omissions (as there is bound to be with something covering this many games), but The Landing is a pretty big one IMO, and I'm not even a huge FF8 fan or anything.

Also just got home, you've got about 30 minutes before I pull scores and all that jazz for like the 3 people that participated lol

Everyone was a winner! So (again) by default myself and Waluigilicous pick BMS tracks, then Roto13 and Adam pick FMS tracks. I'll wait to pick my track until last to try to ensure we don't have more than 2 DLC tracks, if Waluigilicious doesn't pick a DLC BMS I might pick Shadowlord just to appease Roto :p

Bought all the CT songs. <3

Forever disappointed that they didn't give us FF8 - The Landing. :(

I've never even played the game, but the big one I've been hoping for (not very high hopes though) is Almighty Bhunivelze from Lightning Returns. Such an insanely epic song that even rivals Dancing Mad. I would probably explode if they ever produce a live orchestrated version of it.

I got real busy this week, forgot to try the songs. I really don't like Gold Saucer, and I remember being rubbish at The Red Wings anyway.

True story: my only exposure to ffx-2 was the demo video included with unlimited saga. It was so god awful I decided to never Play that game.

Real emotion was featured in that video.

It's a pretty good game despite that stuff, but I can't blame anyone for seeing it and not wanting to play it. It's not like any of that cheesy stuff is a poor representation of the game. It really is that Spice World.

FFX-2 had an incredible battle system that was fun to play, but everything else about it was incredibly embarassing/eye-rolling. No idea if I could go back to it now honestly.

Not bad for my first try.

Ha, Shadowlord is kind of nuts. It's really slow for a really long time. Half way through the song I have like 3 million points or something. The rest is all in the second half when it speeds up and goes nuts. Song has over 500 notes in all on Ultimate.

Now that the Second Performance is over and because I've been seeing a lot of complaints that Square Enix strayed too far from actual Final Fantasy music for much of the DLC, what... let's say... ten Final Fantasy songs are you most disappointed didn't make the cut? To make it more interesting, let's say it has to be five BMS and five FMS songs. These are the gems I feel represent the biggest holes in the FF DLC lineup:

BMS

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - Battle 3
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years - The Battle for Life (I know this game was kind of shit, but this was the one incredible thing to come out of it)
Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Paradigm Shift
Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Unseen Abyss
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - Those Who Accept the Protection of the Stars

FMS

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - Last Castle
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - Lava Dome
Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Run
Final Fantasy XIII-2 - New Bodhum (Aggressive Mix)
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - Moonlight Wandering

If even one of these songs made it into a hypothetical Third Performance, I'd be overjoyed.

WELCOME TO WEEK #7 OF THE NEOGAF TFF:CC COMMUNITY CHALLENGE

Previous Challenges with leaderboards as well as current stage picker rotation can be found here.

• YOU MUST SUBMIT A SCREEN SHOT OF YOUR SCORE. Example: HERE or HERE
• All four stages will be played on the Ultimate score difficulty.
• Score must have been achieved during the competition week; this is done on an HONOR system, so in the spirit of fun competition do not submit "old" high scores.
• In the event of a non-All-Critical score tie, the winner will be determined by most Criticals. If there are multiple All-Critical scores reported the users will be ranked in the order that they posted the score; this also applies to ties where the screenshots taken are from the difficulty select screen (# of Criticals cannot be determined).
• Next week's stages will be determined through a combination of the highest scorer for that Stage type (BMS or FMS) who also has gone the longest without picking a stage of that type.
• Winners are encouraged to type a short write-up of why they choose that particular song. It can be something related to a memory you have of that song or the game in which the song is featured!

This Week's Challenge (3/20/15-3/26/15 @ 5PM EST)

Prologue by Roto13 said:
My pick is Prologue from Final Fantasy Tactics. It's a slow burn, but that just makes the parts where it swells more impactful. This is one of the few FMS tracks I play over and over and over again.

Shadowlord by MrDaravon said:
My wife keeps hassling me to play Nier.

Find Your Way by Adam Prime said:
MY choice is week is Find Your Way from VIII. I believe it's the music from the first dungeon in the game and it sets up the atmosphere perfectly as you're getting ready to embark on a huge quest! I always found it beautiful and one of my favorite tracks in the entire game.

The Decisive Battle - arrangement - from FINAL FANTASY VI by Waluigilicious said:
I choose The Decisive Battle - arrangement - because it's my favourite BMS Non-DLC track that I have not yet perfected.

Rhythm games are a matter of learning to read the inputs as naturally as you read words. Play it enough and you'll be all over Ultimate. Expert will be barely tolerable and Basic will be boring. :p

Minor success! It was the only one I could do.

Oh my fucking God, I just realized from a thread on Gamefaqs that Critical Charter doesn't work like it does in the first game, in this one you have to Critical the entire section for it to count. In the first game it tracked the individual notes. This completely explains why on some of the tracks I was stuck on (and some that I still am) I couldn't figure out what I was missing. Fuck. Fuuuuuuuuck.

This actually legitimately bums me out because I'm pretty sure I've hit a skill ceiling, I have tracks I have dozens of attempts on now without being able to get a certain chunk(s) filled on the Critical Charter, and with this change you can't essentially brute force it. Not sure I can get every trophy now :(

Edit: FUCK YES 55 (yes, 55) tries later I was finally able to get the last Critical Charter piece I was missing on Fight On! (the very last section). Fuck you game hahahaha!

I love the random (and usually Nintendo) setups in all of your pictures lol

Also I am slaying my personal beasts this weekend! Finally TC'd Fight On! yesterday as I posted, then this morning I TC'd Ardent Rhythm and then just now finally TC'd and PC'd Crazy Chocobo! Crazy Chocobo actually really wasn't THAT hard (25 total plays which is slightly above average for me to TC Ultimate tracks), but for some reason I just couldn't Perfect Chain it at all for some reason. Was consistently scoring around 9.5 mil on it and had TC'd it except for one part after a few attempts, but I just would always randomly mess up on a completely different part every single time for no apparent reason. On my last run I got both my Total Critical and Perfect Chain, pretty happy about that.

Also since I have some characters maxed finally started messing around with actually using the Crystarium after ~220 hours, got all 3 of those trophies in one go lol. I always roll with Terra since my thinking is she'll just wreck BMS' with Ultima + Trance + Dualcast + Firaga, so her carrying 3 other people is probably more efficient than leveling up a 4th character. So I went ahead and maxed her HP and Magic for right now.

Still feels super good to make progress though, maybe I'm not as washed up as I thought >_>

Oh derp, I meant I Total Critical'd them, not All Critical'd them. I'd just woken up when I played them this morning and then made that post >_>. Maybe being groggy is my key to success in this game.

Took me a while (cause I haven't actively played this game in months except to download the DLC songs), but I finally got around to listening to the rest of the songs in the music player during this weekend (left off at FFX-2 months back). Just waiting for some big DSi styluses to arrive at my place on Wednesday to hopefully get back to playing this again

I wish I could at least finish Ultimate levels.
It's odd cause I find Expert kind of easy, but I just can't with Ultimate.

There are only three songs I can finish on Ultimate: Bravely Default's Evil Wings, FFIX's Festival of the Hunt and Crisis Core's The Price of Freedom.

Being able to SS anything on Ultimate but then not being able to finish almost any other tracks on Ultimate is bizarre. Are you stacking defense/heals etc? And even if you're failing I would keep on playing on Ultimate, Expert doesn't really train you for Ultimate IMO other than familiarizing you with the song if you weren't already. Ultimate is mostly just knowing the song and then dealing with the speed, and Expert doesn't help you with the speed aspect as much.

Also finally gave Shadowlord a few tries on Ultimate; it's sooooo slow for the first 65% or so of the track, and it's so long to get to the part where you're gonna get fucked. I regret everything.

Any reason why you use the left handed option?

It's the easiest for me. I didn't even try it until I was working on the trophy for completing a song using each of the styles, it was the only one I could complete both BMS and FMS. I'm the worst with the stylus and I can only do hybrid in FMS and two handed in BMS.

I discovered when I was trying for the non-stylus trophies that when it came to EMS, I was better at them by A LOT (though I still stuck) with non-stylus modes. Even left-handed.

FMS it's stylus or bust lol.

(Still suck at Ultimate.)
