Go with Hard. You have played IE games, that's honestly enough IMO.

I was actually going to go with Expert mode but I enjoy the area of effect highlighting, I did pretty well without in the early days of the BB but I honestly want it just because I know it could be there now.

Expert mode is independent from the actual difficulty mode. (i.e. You can play easy on Expert mode on).

I'm aware, I was saying that I enjoy what Expert mode does except for getting rid of the area of effect highlighting. I'm probably going to play on Hard with most of the "helper options" off.

Oh man getting excited now that we're so close. First playthrough definitely going Hard>Expert>Trial of Iron. It's going to be a ton of fun.

If you are going with a dual-weapon style for Rogue, go with fast 1-H weapons in each hand like the stiletto which has DR bypass.

Having played the BB extensively:

  • If you played a RPG game with NO DEPTH (like playing Dragon Age 2 or Inquisition), play on Easy
  • If you have played a RPG game with some sort of depth (Dragon Age Origins (PC), Witcher) - play on Normal
  • If you have played an IE game - Hard
  • Path of the Damned = Reserve for your 2nd playthroughs and beyond
FWIW, I have played all the IE games and am finding Normal challenging. Hard might not be pleasant even for genre veterans.

Yeah, I may or may not have gone completely insane and planned out my dual wielding rogue build down to the last detail from Level 1 to Level 12.

Can I have dual pistols?

Nope.

That feel when I get Monday and Tuesday paid time off and this game releases on the following Thursday.

It hurts.

My brain can't process that this is going to be in my hands in less then a week.

My hype is past frothing, and I rarely get hyped for games anymore.

Enduin, destroyer of dreams.

Let me drink upon your tears.

You can always go for extra weapon slots and just switch between multiple guns. But yeah they're all 2 handed do to the very cumbersome and time consuming nature of reloading those old wheelock guns.

I think in an expansion it would be nice if you could dual wield two pistols or a pistol and 1handed melee and then just unequip the offhand weapon to reload the primary or just go melee until you actively select to stop and reload your firearm, if not just for aesthetic purposes but that might be a bit too complicated a situation.

My computer can't handle it thouuuuugh :((((((((((((((

You know what? I can't handle the wait anymore. I'm going to Vegas for the next 6 days to lose myself in oblivion and then I'm coming home to build myself a new PC to play PoE on.

Who is doing the OT for Eternity? If they want they can put the following in a technical part.

In order to manage my excitement and get ready on the technical front (so that I don't waste any time on that when the game is out) I just digged a bit through the backer beta.

To get the best image quality on the 3D rendered stuff, while maintaining the full quality of the backgrounds, I suggest this (if your hw can handle it):
  • Downsample from exactly 4x the resolution (e.g. I'm using 5120x2880 on my 1440p screen).
  • Since this is a Unity game, if you are using DSR you will need to set your desktop resolution to your downsampling resolution before launching PoE for this to actually work.
  • UI will scale automatically, so there's no need to do anything regarding that.
  • Your zoom limits will be messed up though: by default the game won't let you zoom closer than a 1:1 mapping of background pixels to display pixels. Since you are downsampling, every "display pixel" the game sees is actually just 1/4 of a physical pixel, so you'd like to zoom in further.
Luckily, this is easy to fix: open the console (look up the key for that in the options) and type "setZoomRange 0.5 100". 0.5 will let you zoom in such that you get 1:1 mapping of background image pixels to real physical pixels again with 4x dowsampling.
  • Additionally, you can use the command "msaa N" to enable NxMSAA, e.g. "msaa 4". It doesn't make a huge difference on top of 4x downsampling though.

So is this like a create your whole party game (Icewind Dale)...or create a primary character (Baldurs Gate)?

Both. There are written companions in the game, fully developed and everything like BG, but you also have the ability to create custom companions as well if you so desire.

(Very helpful tips)

As I've not been able to use the Beta to tinker with things, how would I go about downsampling once the game gets released? Only tried it on a couple of older games last year and have sort of forgotten >_>

Thanks in advance :)

It should work fine with a Intel HD Graphics 4600, right? My graphic card died and I still haven't bought a new one, and I don't know if I'll be able to buy one this year :/

Lil OT but anyone know if Steam charges immediately if I pre-order this or at release?

Shame I'm only getting my new PC next month but I guess my old rig can handle this fine enough.
