Wii U Owners: If a Nintendo console released next year, would you consider it?

I haven't bough a Wii U yet and that's the first Nintendo console I never bought.

The "Nintendo" charm and nostalgia has run it's course for me. They would need to do some amazing stuff to make me want to get back in.

Day 1.

Nintendo games are stuff I can't pass up. I'll buy every handheld and console they release as long as they keep pumping out the great first party titles.

Not immediately, but that's my approach to almost every new console. Nintendo fans aren't the ones the Wii U necessarily let down, anyway.

I have no interest or desire to buy another Nintendo console. Their core franchises are great, but I'm tired of the waiting game between releases. Plus the current game market makes it so the prices of most of their games never go down. Bayonetta 2 has been out for 5 months and its still $60. Even worse are the games you have to reserve or else you'll never find them at a reasonable price. This doesn't happen with other game companies and I'm sick of Nintendo doing it.

Probably not. I'm relatively satisfied with what i have on the wii u right now, and I have plenty of games to still get. I wouldn't pay full price for a console anyways...I've been buying all my consoles either during sales or from someone locally who's discounting it a bit when they bought too many.

I'd say it'd probably be too soon for a home console at least for me. Now, if we're talking handheld, i'd be interested. I still love the 3DS, and have plenty of things there, but I'm on the fence now with the new3DS, and whether or not I want to get it and risk a new one coming out shortly after.

This, although that new Zelda may be a game changer but sadly I fear that at least for me, it's not.

I just bought one this year because I felt like it finally had enough games I wanted to play

so nah not anytime soon

edit: eventually though sure

I'm a big fan of Nintendo but waited a year on the Wii U. In your scenario it depends on whether or not the next console is groundbreaking or just some graphical upgrade, which I can live without until the catalog builds up.

Not at launch because I wouldn't trust their products to have any longevity. I'd wait until it was dirt cheap and already had a decent library of games.

I'd bite. I didn't think Wii U at launch was worth it but they suckered me in still.

But please, no more Wiimotes. It's time to upgrade with more buttons and better motion controls.

Lots of ifs would make me jump:

1. If the console plays the few digital Wii U games available.
2. If they update their accounts management system so that it's on par with MS and Sony
3. If the rumors of being able to play console to portable are true.
4. IF they have a STRONG starting lineup of games in the can ready for launch.
5. The ability to play digital 3DS games on the portable part of the system

I think their new loyalty program might come into play here and give some type of benefit to Wii U owners.
If that is the case and the system is retro compatible with my Wii U digital games, then I could buy it. Otherwise, nope, as I said earlier, done with Nintendo home consoles.

Pretty much. Though if the launch lineup is sparse I will wait until there's enough software out there to make it worth it.

or I get caught up in hype and still buy it like a moron.

And that's really the thing, isn't it? Nintendo won't have third parties on board. I already have a PC. Others have the same or a PS4 or a XB1. So what's the point of a new console? I already get Nintendo games in HD with the Wii U. I'd prefer 1080p over 720p but that's a minor complaint.

If third parties release good, uncompromised games on NX I'll buy them and support them. But I'm not expecting that to happen because that boat has sailed from both sides. What I do expect to happen is that Nintendo will not go into a slow death spiral like Sega in that they will release a dedicated home console which gives them the freedom and flexibility they need to make their one of a kind, amazing first and second party content. Speaking of second parties, Nintendo would be better off aquiring a few more studios both in Japan and the West. Come on, Iwata. Make me actually care that you said in the investor meeting over a year ago that you'd be making some acquisitions.

the thing there is that MS managed to convince the general populace they were competing head to head with Sony with it while they were just barely ahead of the GC, which everyone saw as a failure back then.

Nintendo lacks this kind of PR spin so the road is much more like Sega's road.

It wasn't pr spin. MS was competing with Sony and spent a hell of a lot of money. The Xbox was the most powerful console, had innovative features, even third party support with superior versions like splinter cell or GTA.

MS killed it because their contracts limited how much they could cut prices and they were already losing money out the ass.

I have more than gotten my money's worth out of the WiiU, and it has been the best console purchase I've made since the 90s. So, yes, I would have no qualms about picking up the next one even it were to appear next year.

While I would prefer the WiiU to become a surprise success for no other reason than to see that feather in Nintendo's cap, the astounding quality of games on the current device more than makes up for my disappointment in the popularity of the device itself. Because when it comes to personal satisfaction, the games have more than delivered.

Holiday 2016 yes. Currently my Wii U is just a smash machine which I have no qualms with.

Any earlier no. Any later of course, but then I would expect the console to have a considerable amount of more power than the PS4.

I don't care about "mass market success" i care about good games for a system ive payed money for, and so far cant really complain (Wonderful 101 game of the generation??). I would be mad if another console is released anytime before 2017, and if anyone thinks that will realistically happen your stupid. I would feel cheated and i know a lot of others would too, and i don't think Nintendo underestimates that.

Nobody was really competing.
MS had like 23m, Nintendo had like 20m, PS2 had like 150m.

PS2 had the weakest hardware and arguably the least innovation. Doesn't mean the other consoles were good competition because they were better in those areas. Even Nintendo had decent third party support that gen, which is the real anomaly in their past. PS2 third party library was still unmatched that gen.

As someone who owns every Nintendo home console except the WiiU due to a lack of compelling software and third party support, I have almost no faith that Nintendo could take the necessary risks to build up a successor that might turn things around. They have to compete with the other two, or they'll be left with their dwindling hardcore demographic.

If the WiiU is the groundwork for the path they wish to continue following, I'm done with Nintendo consoles for good.

Nope. Will never buy a Nintendo console at launch again until the library builds up. The Wii U didn't start being worth owning until last year, which was two years after its launch. The system didn't have many third-party titles either the first two years, which made that drought even worse.

Hell no, I just got a Wii U.

Me too.

But I think I'm just going to be happy with 1 handheld and 1 home gaming system (PC) for now. I need to stop buying consoles... I still want to dig out my old consoles like PS2 or gamecube and fiddle around with those when I'm not playing my primary two. Lots of great old games I haven't played on those systems yet.

And the PC backlog just keeps growing and growing...

damn, not even the GC-esque 4 year life cycle? eh...it's not quite pulling a Sega, but if the price & launch software are right, i'd honestly consider it

No chance in hell.

I'm happy with the Wii U, but it has not fulfilled its end of the bargain yet, especially with Zelda being delayed.

It would severely limit my confidence. I felt the Wii was not supported properly and Nintendo seemed yo largely ignore it after console sales dropped off and only a few major titles released.

The WiiU had some very high quality titles, but it's not enough that I wouldn't feel extremely cheated if they bailed on it.

On top of that it would give them a bad track record andwho is to say the nnext platform doesn't just get dropped?

I don't think so. Not a home console at least. I rarely play my Wii u. Nintendo can't keep up with the pace of games to make it worthwhile. Their handheld I'd buy...but not at launch. I'm an ambassador that learned a lesson on that one.

my only question is if they do release a console next year, would it count as their second 8th gen console replacement for the wii u or will it count as the first 9th gen console?

if it is meant to compete with current gen then I see it as an 8th gen console, regardless of it being the wii u's successor.

Not for a while. I just bought my wii u a couple of months ago, and I've yet to pick up many games for it. I've had so much fun playing Nintendo games with my wife (and if we have kids, it'll be great fun for the family), that I'll probably end up picking up their next console, but it's too soon for me to be an early adopter.

I don't have the money to afford a new console anymore. If I did, maybe if it actually launched with games and was at a good price point ($300-home console/$200-handheld).

As someone who got a Wii U on Christmas on 2012, I might consider the system, but it would have to be a more down the road thing if it releases next year since I'm not the richest guy in the world. :p
Plus, I'd have to see the support it's getting at launch and the price point as those would be the major factors in my decision.
I already have plenty in my backlog of various systems, my future purchases for Wii U along with 3DS and Vita, and the possibility of finally getting a PS4 later this year. It sucks to be a full-time student as far as income goes in my experience.
