Just finished the campaign... I really liked it. It was so different from past Battlefield games. I kept to the shadows in every level and silently took everyone out. I also did all the evidence and arrests. Best Battlefield campaign so far.
Thats how i played it.
Felt really different from a battlefield game, it was like a stealth game almost playing it with nothing but take downs and a taser.
The shootout sections arent half bad either....i didnt get all the case files, but ill replay them next time XBL gets DDoS'd or im in the mood for some SP.
But im glad other people liked the campaign as well....def different from other modern shooters.
Tried campaign last night, just finished episode 3 and ehhhhh. That arrest mechanic is really jarring, it's far too binary. There was one instance of three guys standing together, one a bit closer than the other, and because I hadn't got into the FREEZE range for the remaining two the first one surrounded and the other two started firing (this is on hardest difficulty, not sure if that makes a difference).
Don't like how there are some instances of guys obviously grouped together waiting for you to shout FREEZE either. Or guards who will just stare off into distance for all eternity, waiting for you to arrest them.
I like that it's different and I'm liking the general vibe of the campaign but honestly, that arrest mechanic isn't contributing to my enjoyment of campaign. If anything, it feels like a needless bother.
You dont have to play it stealth.....if you want get some automatic weapons and play it like any other shooter. Maybe that will be more your style of play.
Stealthing the game can be fun, and if you stakeout the area nicely you will notice the guards patterns and all. And like all stealth games there are some guards who are seemingly just there waiting to be taken down.
The guy smoking a ciggy for hours, or the cook pretty much every stealth game has a few of those characters.
As for failing the freeze, thats all on you buddy....get close enough to gather all 3 before shouting freeze, if you are too far away obviously the other guys nearby will get alerted and feel they have the advantage.
I actually like the freeze mechanic when you are trying to arrest guys partnerless and if you arent aiming your gun at one of the perps his red bar fills as he gains confidence to try taking you, so you have to keep aiming at them to keep them in their place.
Heist, Hotwire and Blood Money....this really cant be called a Copy/Paste job, these game modes are amazing.
Some of my friends who arent Battlefield fans are really impressed by these game modes and are considering converting to BF.
Everytime they come over to my place i make sure to give them a taste of Hotwire for the car guys, and objective fans Blood Money and Heist.
