Spotify app launches on PS3 & PS4, exclusive to PlayStation for "foreseeable future"

Am I missing something or is there not a way to change your playlist from holding the ps button and bringing up the quick menu? You can pause and skip songs but you can't launch the spotify app. You have to go to the main ps4 menu to do it.

Great idea, I'll get started on one and have it up in a while. Someone please let me know if they're already working on it.

I was planning/going to work on it but I am very picky with planning a thread so please take over and do it! :)

You're not missing anything. Quick menu is to pause, play, skip track and change volume. You have to open Spotify to make any further changes or change the playlist entirely. It's the limitation of PS4's memory when it comes to multitasking. There are instances where XMB gets super slow if you're gaming, playing music and trying to e.g. log in a new user. Compromise, I suppose.

Is there a way where you can disable game music whilst listening to spotify WITHOUT NEEDING TO DISABLE IT MANUALLY IN THE OPTIONS IN EVERY GAME?

Also controlling the music from your phone is like something out of this world!

Its instantaneous!

If you connect your Spotify app on your phone/tablet to the PS4 you should be able to use your smart device as a remote and change playlist via that. Er, at least I think that's how I did it last night :p

Unfortunately no. Some games are designed with the idea of having your own music, and most aren't. In the future titles, developers can be smart and make the in-game music automute, but not every game does it right now.

I will say, nothing is more hilarious than playing binding of isaac with a sounds of nature, rainforest track playing in the background.

This is true. Also you will be asked if you want to suspend the game if starting Spotify in the background again.

That said, you can use Spotify on a pc, cellphone or tablet as a remote control, which is pretty nifty.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Link's busted

EDIT: I know what you did.

How do you do that? I couldn't figure out how to connect Spotify on my PC to my PS4 :S

Only problem I have so far is using shuffle on large playlists. It only seems to play the first dozen or so songs before repeating the loop. Otherwise it is a great feature.

I think Sony would rather have a partnership with a place than have their own streaming site because of costs and the current perception of Sony from other consumers.

Sure have their official thing, but still I'd like to see them encourage other services like tidal or google music or amazon. Same with video services. They aren't blocking amazon video because of the playstation video store.

Definitely! Netflix is a great service living in an industry that's far more constraint that music industry. It's a marvel that Netflix got to be Netflix without any issues, and that only happened because they were dominant on their DVD market and practically killed everyone else. Netflix is now surviving in a market where torrent sites aren't what they used to be.

I am all for paying monthly for a service that provides great content.

I'm not sure if I'll pay for Spotify without testing it out fully for the next few months because their free service is tremendous and is satisfying my craving right now. Music has become disposable. You can hear the latest release weeks before they release officially for free via Soundcloud or Pitchfork, and you can hear mp3 quality audio day one without stepping out of your home.

Its interesting. Whilst I pay for netflix and other piecemeal video services fine (up to a point) I'm unwilling to pay for music streaming services where I'm still having to buy cds to make up for content they don't have. doubly so for ones where I cant upload music to make up for what they don't have.

Not sure why I have that different attitude.

everything is great but the annoying thing about the free version is hearing the ad to upgrade to premium version 2-3 times in a row.

Works great, sounds great!

I've been using the free version of Spotify for years, but after upgrading I really don't want to go back...

Am I being thick? My music is only showing saved playlists, not saved albums? I can still play albums from my phone but not from the app.

I'm sure the starred/favourites playlist is an oversight and they'll be able to patch it in.

In the meantime you could just copy all your starred music to a manual playlist.

FLAC at 1411 kbps
Spotify Paid at 320 kbps

You need a good pair of headphones and a decent amp to hear the difference between those. Im not saying it isnt noticable, but if your gear is solid it's still hard to differentiate between anything that is > 320kbs.

I don't mean to be the downer here but if you already have a usb drive, then you can already play your own music in the background while playing games.

Not only do I love a lot of music I don't actually own (with YouTube, Pandora and Spotify, I really don't have a reason to keep a huge archive of every song I may want to listen to), but the ability to play playlists/specific genres and learn of new songs/artists is pretty nice to have. I can turn on GTA:V, play a random playlist on Spotify and have fun with the game while enjoying and discovering new music. Can't do that with music you already own on a USB drive.

Of course, I suppose the USB drive still has it's uses, like for when I want all of my Shakey Graves music instead of just one album.

My spotify iPad app doesn't list/show my ps4 under "connect", it only shows my iPad. Both are connected to the internet, using the same router, spotify app is running on ps4 without being logged into spotify on myps4 while trying. Did I miss a step?

EDIT: Solved. I always logged into spotify with my facebook username and never needed to set up a device password. Did that, logged in directly on my PS4, then it showed up in the "connect"-list of spotify on my iPad as well.

Really cool app, but browsing My Music is a pain since you can only view music by individual songs. I know playlists would help solve this but being able to browse by album is a much needed addition. My solution is making playlists for each album....yeah there needs to be something better.

Yeah, a bit annoying theres no easy way to make playlists or jump to album view when you spot a song you like.

It's not an issue if you have a tablet/smart phone. You can just sync it with your PS4 and instataneously switch or search for songs, albums, or playlists. It's actually better that way so that you don't have to keep going changing it by holding the PS button.

Sounds like I should use the app then. An album view should really be in the PS4 app though. I thought for sure I was missing something when I first used it.

I found controlling it on PS4 via my phone to be oddly laggy as hell (and the name of the song on my phone never seemed to mirror what was playing). Maybe because I was using a shuffled playlist, I dunno.
