Star Wars Battlefront Trailer, game will be 60 fps

Did first person look similar to Battlefield (gun bob, kind of weighty)?

And would you say this is pretty close to what the real third person mode looked like?

DemandingBlankIndiancow.gif
I'm not sure if it'll look like that on release...but wow if they can get it close.

I would love to believe something like this is possible. That its legit. That what we are seeing here is happening.

But as an overall image this right here imo is the greatest in game graphics of all time if it happened. Like if this was actual gameplay from the actual perspective I just don't see a single game that holds a candle to this. And its supposed to be 60fps on consoles AND have 40 player online?

As others have said I would love to eat crow. In fact I hope I get entire plates full of them. Deep fried, BBQ, baked, whatever. Give me all the crows. But I just don't see how such a thing could be psychically possible on current generation hardware. Hell even on PC it just doesn't seem realistic.

Please prove me wrong EA / DICE. It would be the best thing ever.

Won't look like that though.

I hope the employees that stated the graphics were real, and even on PS4 get a strong backlash. I'm not too worried, star wars fans and all.

I'm not going to blame people at a media event watching from a distance.

^hehe, well I don't think they'd try to gimp the PC version for console sales, especially with it being heavy multiplayer (less worried about piracy).
Unless modders bring us computers from the future...it's just not going to happen. It will still be great I'm sure of it, just don't expect to be playing a movie.

yup, I wish too, maybe next gen or the one after that.

I still hope they can make it look really really great, but it's not going to look 5 times better than the best looking games that aren't as demanding made by top programmers. Battlefield Hardline was made by the same engine just recently.

[/QUOTE]

Battlefield 4 and Hardline also ran on 360 and PS3.

I don't think they'd drop such a large amount of possible sales unless it could make a big difference.

And this is an actual Mcdonald's Hamburger...

hero_hamburger.png

For a few seconds there I really wanted to eat a hamburger from mc donalds (before I remembered what an actual mc donalds burger tastes and looks like)

Now I understand the hype in this thread.

Wow@ the comparison icecold posted from bf4
I remembered they downgraded it but not this hard, there is almost nothing left of the lighting shown in that trailer in the final game.

That makes sense when they have to limit the game on better consoles because previous gen consoles can't handle it. EG PSASBR with a vita. PS3 version slightly gimped in terms of features because Vita won't keep up and they have to be able to play together.

It doesn't mean the consoles or PC could handle something a million times better looking. Console versions weren't running hardline maxed out on next-gen, and hardline doesn't have shit on this. And both are using the Frostbite engine right.

Sure they might be encouraged to invest more time in adding some nicer effects that PS3/x360 just wouldn't be able to handle, especially if they drop player counts etc. But it's not going to make this leap. Not even on the most expensive rig.

The sales won't drop in any meaningful way compared to the positive impact of these trailers on hype. People still want to play a new good star wars game and it won't look like a shit show. It will look good, even great for most people. But I do hope for a backlash anyway though.

I seem to remember some very similar hype reactions to BF4. They claim this isn't another Battlefield game but I can't help but be skeptical.

People are going crazy for a trailer that was polished for months and probably took a week to render. No lessons learned, ever.

It's not just a case of adding effects. It's more about redesigning your graphics pipeline to actually take advantage of dx11+ capabilities. It's easy to say this is impossible because pc's have had similar hardware for years, but no pc game has been designed for gcn level compute capabilities from the ground up.

We know that many things can be done much faster with compute shaders when designed properly for shared memory. We've seen what using the async compute/shader queue can do in the tomorrow children(15-30% reduced frametime depending upon scene). Who knows what else is possible.

Just wait until 2nd and 3rd gen ps4 and xb1 games. I think we'll all be surprised.

You're getting my hopes up...I will crush them.

How is it from the ground-up if they use the same engine?

If the difference was that fucking monumental, why haven't any companies (especially Sony or MS themselves) capitalized yet on the new consoles that have been out for 2 years. Just for previous gen consoles sales?

20 million ps4 sold already, they'd be able to start a successful new franchise too if the gameplay wasn't total shit. Especially being the first.

The company would have leaped forward. And they still wouldn't be prevented from using the resources on a previous gen version.

I'll expect a noticeable a improvement but not anywhere near this.

I think it's just cherry picked footage but still in engine... There are parts in COD:MW1 that look almost that good when the angles and lighting are just right...

If they could match their trailers they'd be beating the Order but in full screen and that's just not happening.

I would really like to know how they are going to deal with Heroes and villains being playable in locations that they were never at. The game is listed as canon, even though there is no story mode. In the trailer, in the Boba fett shot, it really looks like he is on Jakuu. For anyone that hasnt seen Return of the Jedi, spoiler I guess
Boba Fett dies years before the battle of Jakuu

Maybe im just thinking too much into it. But it is odd that they would list this in the most recent canon timeline, but not follow canon

I'd be in the dick

Rumor is they're making it canon Boba Fett escaped the pit. Could be their introducing that in this game.

We'll be seeing this on the WiiU right?

Kidding, but I'll definitely have to upgrade my PC before this comes out.

Also this looks too good to be true, I'll have to restrain the hype.

Windows 10, and more importantly DX12, will be out by the time this releases. Hopefully they'll be able to leverage some of the new features and optimizations found in DX12 to allow PCs gamers to really crank up the visual fidelity.

I know a lot of the core Frostbite team is pumped for DX12 so I'm sure it'll be supported by the engine right away.

I saw actual ps4 gameplay today at Celebration. The actual graphics do look like the trailer, if you imagine it with a lot of jaggies with less clarity farther away. Obviously the footage was rendered on a much more beastly machine. However when it comes to lighting and models and even a bunch of the animations, it was all there. That is indeed in-engine.

Of course the exciting camera angles are not there in gameplay either which makes it look significantly less crazy cool. But it still looks awesome.

I was originally planning to get this on PS4 and while it still looks good on the console, seeing the difference between the in-engine rendering and the actual console output, I might go for PC.
If you have a beastly machine it seems perfectly possible to have trailer-matching graphics 100%

Third person was a little bit farther back from the player but still not too far.

^Nice, didn't know it was confirmed you could be third person while on foot. Not that you'd want to be if you were playing multiplayer. Nice to have for sure, especially if you could switch on-the-fly (no menus).

Uh, what?

Just shows you the variation when it comes to graphics.

Nice and within 6 months they can clean allot of those jaggies up on console hopefully. Maybe it will be 900p on the PS4 and 720p on the X1?

Well, that is what hardline was at 60fps - with drops.

Same engine. Apparently it's from the ground up designed for next gen, whatever that means, so maybe there will be a bit of a bump. Especially with fewer players.

Yeah they definitely said it was still in progress and I'm hoping they can smooth it out.

Those with beastly PCs though should have no trouble matching the trailer graphics from what I saw today. It's like they said. That's really how the game looks. The console versions are just lower resolution and with less filtering, which definitely makes it look more gamey.

Was it more like the second image "Gears of War"?

Oh yeah definitely more like the second one than the first.

^How far were you sitting from the screen?

Also did you see them switching quickly between third person and first while moving about on foot?

The whole presentation takes place in a pretty small room, so not far. Only 30 or so people allowed in at a time. I had to wait hours.

They switched from first to third without opening any menus. They switched from third back to first pretty quick during a firefight. I wouldnt know what buttom press it was though, being a video. But it was quick and seemingly easy.

Yeah, that is a good view...

The impressive lighting was there?

Were the particle effects similar (when the lasers hit something and spark out, and the thick smoke and sparks from explosions)?

I'm not going to expect AA and motion blur like in the trailer but if they can get close with the other stuff, I'll be pleased.

Of course I only got to see this all once and I couldnt pause to analyze anything, but from what I saw, the lighting was there yes. Biggest differences were just resolution and aliasing. All that foliage with all those tiny little edges sort of looks messy at console resolution. Will probably look better in the final product.

One thing I dont see a lot of people mentioning is that the presentation dude made it a point to say that audio is a big focus in this game and that it is designed to fully support and take advantage of Dolby ATMOS on PC version.

If the PS4 version is somewhat close to the trailer than maybe they should just target 30 fps and clean up the image, BF4 had many drops anyway so why not recognize consoles can't render such fidelity at 60 and go for a good stable 30 fps with a good IQ instead?

I think what they mean by canon is that the events portrayed in the solo/co-op "Battlefront Missions" are canon. I wouldn't expect them to make all possibilities in full multiplayer to be canon (especially Empire winning when they should have lost, vice versa).

Honestly some of the best parts of the previous Battlefronts was playing out fantasy scenarios that never actually happened.

Is that something we can take advantage of with just a nice pair of headphones, or do we need an expensive speaker setup?

I'm fascinated by the fact that people on this forum will defend the Uncharted cut scene to death and say the game will definitely look like that on release with no downgrade, but are also 100% sure that Battlefront is bullshit and WILL be downgraded...

Yeah it's hard to remember and spot this stuff in an exciting media show that you can't pause, or watch again so I won't hold it against you. Just trying to pull as much info as I can ;) - the sparks and explosions looked impressive and thick? From laser firing (and turning into sparks)? If you can recall.

I read some posters mention the audio even on the trailer, it does sound good for sure, been watching it on my laptop though.

I don't believe the lighting is going to be there though, it just looks too good. Shadow depth is insane. Even if they lower the resolution and get rid of a lot of the aa. Been wanting nice lighting in games since forever.

That's because Naughty Dog actually had the scene run in real-time at 60fps on one PS4 console. And then they did a great looking 30fps demo. It still has a chance of matching its teaser if they do 30fps.

But a multiplayer, multiplatform, 60fps game that beats Uncharted 4 and even rivals The Order despite an inevitably higher res?

Nah.

The only explosion I really remember is the AT-AT. IIRC it looked the same as the trailer.

In fact the entire gameplay section was basically just an actual in-game version of the trailer. Running around shooting stormtroopers, speeder bikes, AT-ST, AT-AT. But instead of Vader showing up outside, he only shows up after entering the bunker. And he force chokes a dude! Then walks up looking like a badass.

But BF4 on PS4 ran at 60 in my experience more often then not. I played allot of rush and domination though, smaller scaled modes. I really believe with the smaller player count and good optimization from tech wizardry they can get the game to run at a good clean 900p 60fps with dips that may hit the mid to low 50s and I would be ok with that. That smooth 60fps is what I appreciate most from shooters and racers and they seem to really be advertising 60fps and I think they can pull it off.

It won't look like the trailer you wouldn't imagine . I expect it to look pretty incredible though. Wouldn't be the first time A Star Wars game had pushed the graphics boundaries. See Rogue Leader

I don't think some people are listening.

It's funny, but I think if this game would have looked somewhat worse it really would have broke the Internet, figuratively speaking. But the game looks too good. It looks so good that many people simply can't believe the game will look anything like that.

Although it does look incredible, I can see a lot of the techniques they are using and I do think it's feasible. Certainly it won't look as good as this scripted cinematic trailer in terms of impact, simply down to the difference in camera angles, animations and IQ, but in terms of core techniques/assets I think it's possible. A part of me is still somewhat doubtful, however, even though all the evidence leads me to that conclusion.
