Which Sony Studios are most likely to show up at E3?

I have an eerie suspicion it's gonna get delayed. I hope not since it's probably the only game I'd be getting for my PS4 this Fall.

Atlus USA seems to still believe it's coming this year. I feel like we will be hearing about Japanese release date relatively soon.

Just for the sake of clarity (and fun!), here are my full predictions for Sony's first party announcements throughout the year:

E3
- Guerrilla: Horizon
- Bend: New IP
- SCEJ: Gravity Rush

Gamescom
- Cambridge: Killzone or Resistance
- Media Molecule: New IP

TGS
- Polyphony: Gran Turismo 7

PSX
- Santa Monica: God of War project

I'm not expecting Quantic Dream's game until next year. Also not expecting The Last Guardian at all even though we know it's coming. I just don't have enough faith in it to actually expect it haha.

October...damn I hope that pans out.

Persona strikes me as the type of game that'll perform well no matter when it's released. That's because the fanbase is extremely loyal and it caters to a crowd that's been hungry in recent years. I also expect a great critical reception which will help drive sales and maintain legs for months. It should be fine :)

So when they reveal COD on the 26th do they announce what conference they are going to show more, if I remember they usually announce that they will show gameplay in the Microsoft conference so anybody know when they do this ?

Naughty Dog - crazy UC4 setpeice demo.

Team Japan - SCEJ X level 5 collab maybe. hino even confirmed he'll be at e3, whether its for sony or some other pub is to be seen.

--Team Gravity & Team Ico - nope to both. kat and katbird will both be missing.

Polyphony Digital - maybe, could be something thats not even a game. concept/vision GT like stuff.
Sony Bend - doubt it, too early.

Santa Monica - CG trailer at best. hinting at the setting.

Sucker Punch - no.

Guerrilla Games , Guerilla Cambridge - GG yes, GG cambridge, no.

Media Molecule - yes.

Sony London - LOL

Quantic Dream - maybe. depends on whether they have an all american A-lister starcast again. otherwise gamescom

Rad: yes, the order dlc. i hope so.

I found out why UC4 was delayed. They're too distracted with Iron Man

I imagine Sony will reveal whatever fancy fall thing Destiny has planned, I can't see them having both Destiny and COD reveals
I also think it'd be a huge waste of time in a conference that is sure to be full of wasted time

I haven't followed The Last Guardian like some folks but I kind of expect it to be there. I doubt I'd play it but it'd be an awesome reveal to watch

Man oh man, what would I do for another Dark Cloud game, or better yet, a direct sequel for Dark cloud 2 (aka:Dark Chronicle in pal regions).I truly adored the Max and Monica in that game and would love to see them again along with the world Level 5 crafted. As I recall, Sony re-registered the Dark Chronicle trademark in japan last year. Sure, trademark renewals aren't a strong proof that it'll most likely to happen, but hey, you never know.

there is one thing that people are missing in terms of sony's strategy...

that is, more first party games but not with first party studios.

to sony, there are no second party bullcrap. there are only first party games (games they publish) and 3rd party games.

so something like heavy rain, etc.

we are now seeing games like rime, rapture, wattam, order 1886, bloodborne, until dawn, tomorrow children, etc.

that is what i expect from sony this e3. collaboration in one way or another with developer studios to make first-party games.

Not sure how to feel about Sony 1st party anymore.

I want to see RE7 unveiled on their stage.. the last of the big AAA and technically competent J games.

Sony would be wise to not overload their conference with shooters. CoD, Battlefront, and Destiny seems a bit overkill.

They have an incredible amount of stuff to announce.
This is basically the time when all the developers jump on the winner bandwagon and tons of games for PS4 are in development.
But keep in mind that they have announcements at Gamescon and TGS to make as well so E3 won't get all the love.

I guess that what we can expect from western studios is:
New Uncharted 4 demo + Uncharted Collection announcement
New Ratchet&Clank PS4 game with a release date this year
Guerrilla announcing their new IP Horizon
Bend announcing their new horror game.
Quantic Dream annoucing its new PS4 game (seems like they confirmed their presence at E3)
God of War 4 small teaser (don't expect gameplay, they're not ready for that yet, PSExperience in December will get the first gameplay trailer).

But it's Japan studio which could make the biggest announcements and steal the show for Sony with:
Gran Turismo 7 announcement trailer
Collaboration with Level 5 for a new PS4 RPG (which is confirmed to be announced at E3)
Bloodborne getting more love with an official DLC expansion.
Gravity Rush 2 with Gravity Rush remaster for PS4 announcement.
Clap Hanz showing actual PS4 footage of their new Sports Resort game (the game was announced last year at E3 but development was very early and they had nothing to show).
The Last Guardian, yeah people will joke about this but honestly it's time, game can't be in development forever, just like FFXV it will be unveiled again after a long silence and probably the release date is sooner than we all expect.

Then third parties announcements and demos (Batman, MGSV and Star Wars Battlefront will be there in some form).
Square Enix might announce something exclusive like FFXII HD.
Indies and other third parties surprises of course will be there.

So when they reveal COD on the 26th do they announce what conference they are going to show more, if I remember they usually announce that they will show gameplay in the Microsoft conference so anybody know when they do this ?

It's not something that they would specifically mention during the reveal, but there should be a clue somewhere in the trailer or marketing afterwards about who has co-marketing. This is how the last two CoD games were unveiled

Advanced Warfare - Starts by pointing out that it's Xbox One footage

Ghosts - Reveal at Xbox One unveiling

The pre-order page will also be telling based on which platform they choose as the default. So we should know who has co-marketing next Sunday.

I keep forgetting Sony Bend exist.

They seem like they should be ready to announce something at this stage. Uncharted GA was a long ass time ago. I know their Vita follow up to that game was canned but that also must have happened at least 2 years ago now.

Outside of project by independent studios like Insomniac (R&C Movie Game) & Supermassive games (Until Dawn)...

I definitely expect:

Santa Monica - God of War
San Diego - Drawn To Death
Polyphony Digital - Gran Turismo
Naughty Dog - Uncharted
Team Japan - Unannounced Titles
Media Molecule - Tearaway Unfolded / Unannounced Project

My gut is also telling me:

Team Ico (they're too quiet... I think it's time for a teaser)
Sucker Punch - (Infamous has come and gone... time to announce a new project)
Guerrilla Games - Unannounced Project Unveiling

^^this... mixed in with your third party unveilings... makes for a good show.

All at E3? Do you guys ever learn?
1. Sony doesn't announce their games 2+ years from release anymore (unless there's a significant delay).
2. E3 does typically get the biggest announcements but Sony still tries to spread them out between E3, Gamescom, TGS and PSX.

Here's what I'd expect this year:

E3
Japan Studio - The Last Guardian
Level 5/Japan Studio - New JRPG IP #1
Quantic Dream - New IP
Guerrilla Games - Horizon

Gamescom
Sony London - Playroom VR
Media Molecule - New IP
Sony Bend - New Horror IP

TGS
Japan Studio (w/ another studio) - New JRPG IP #2
Japan Studio - Gravity Rush 2

PSX
Sony Santa Monica - God of War 4 (maybe, a teaser at best though because it's a Q1 2017 game)

Mix in games that've already been announced (U4, R&C, etc.), maybe some DLC (Bloodborne and The Order DLC, please), a couple of remasters (Uncharted Trilogy, Beyond) and a few smaller second party announcements and I think that's pretty much it.

i expect

nd uc4
guerilla and bend reveals
something from qd either remaster or game announcemnet

... highly doubt ssm will announce gow. thats a psx thing and mm is normally gamescon.

What we don't know

Team Japan - very large, multiple games developed simultaneously E3 probably isn't the place
--Team Gravity - 3 years since last game Gravity Rush 2 has to come eventually
--Team Ico - last game (lol) lol
Polyphony Digital - 2 years since last game maybe
Sony Bend - 3 years since last game hopefully
Santa Monica - 2 years since last game almost certainly
Sucker Punch - 1.5 years since last game maybe, probably not
Guerrilla Games - 2 years since last game almost definitely
--Guerilla Cambridge - 2 years since last game maybe
Media Molecule - multiteam, 4 years since last game, Tearaway developed alongside new IP probably GamesCom
Sony London - usually releases several games per year, probably working on Morpheus probably not at E3/nobody cares
Quantic Dream - second party technically, 2 years since last game not holding my breath

I feel pretty confident about most of these. Guerrilla Cambridge seems pretty iffy- I don't see Sony letting them make an original IP right now, but I also don't see a new Killzone getting pushed out anytime soon. How soon Sucker Punch's next game comes depends a lot on whether it's an inFamous game or a new IP.

And you are telling people have high expectations.

I've been predicting that it'd show up at E3 2015 for a long time. I didn't think it would show up in 2013 or 2014 but I think the timing is right this year. Puppeteer and Knack came out in 2013, freeing the resources within Japan Studio to put two other AAA titles into full production and I think those two games are Gravity Rush 2 and The Last Guardian.

I agree.

IMO, I always thought it was fairly obvious that development on TLG/GD2 was slow/nonexistent because of prioritisation on Knack/Puppeteer. And AAA development takes at least two years to show tangible results.

So, two years after Puppeteer and Knack feels like the right time.

My predictions:
  • Naughty Dog - UC4 Semi-Story Trailer / Uncharted Trilogy for PS4
  • Insomniac - R&C Gameplay, release date and a free ticket for the movie with the game
  • Polyphony Digital - Grand Turismo 7 Prologue - Digital Only
  • Sony Bend - New I.P. Engine Trailer
  • Santa Monica - God of War Teaser at the end of the conference (a la U4) Will probably reveal something shocking (New Protagonist or New Gods?)
  • Sucker Punch - I don't know why but I find it strange that there's no Sly Cooper game releasing next to the film just like R&C. Sly Cooper Redux anyone?
  • Guerrilla Games - New I.P. Reveal Trailer
  • Quantic Dream - We might get another demo (like Kara) but it'll be closer to the actual game setting (kind of like The Casting demo from HR). Hell I wouldn't mind a game based on Kara to be honest but one things for sure whatever QD shows is going to be looker.

I think this should be enough, of course there's always the black sheep known as TLG. I feel like Sony is keeping this game as their secret weapon in case the PS4 begins to decline.

Most likely? Does anyone really know? Before every conference I see these page long lists of first party fantasies that never come true and then everyone is disappointed lol.

On a side note: Gimme more Sucker Punch please. Every Infamous has been amazing and Second Son was a fucking blast. More infamous, new IP I don't really care, this studio does not disappoint me I really hope we get something from them.

Ok I didn't find the video but found an article on what he said,Sony's Shuhei Yoshida was asked to give one-word summaries for some of Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusives, and in reference to Sony Bend, he said "panic", LittleBigPlanet creator Media Molecule's upcoming title, "extraordinary," Guerilla Game's upcoming title, "epic," and Yoshida's refusal to say anything with regards to Sony Santa Monica's upcoming title but seems to be the next God of War, MM's game look like it might be a Morpheus game, Sony Bend's game was rumored to be a survival horror game. This interview was from 2013 when the PS4 launched and the funny thing is that we haven't really seen anything or heard anything about these yet so in 2013 they were being worked on and it's 2015, time for their reveal ?
