I have Injustice, Mortal Kombat, and Ultra Street Fighter 4 in my Steam library (grabbed them from sales and such). I'm new to the genre. Which one should I start with?

*Any other suggestion is welcome, but I would prefer to start with something I already owned.
Can't go wrong with Street Fighter.

SF4 is the better game but I'd argue the campaigns in MK and Injustice are a good way of easing people in and having them try most of the roster.

How come a character can take a staggering amount of sword slashes / hackings / shootings and still act as he or she has never been hurt?

This is especially disconcerting during cut-scenes, in which the most mundane things kill them.

First and foremost it is still a game and has to work as such.

So I've got a bit of bad luck with my Xbox One, seems I got a fault unit and the disc drive isn't working at all.

I'm sending it in for a service, I was wondering if I needed to pack in the controller into the box or just the unit and power cable?

Yes it's a stupid question but that's why I'm here :p

Right click the game's name in Steam, delete local content. No games really delete saves or profiles because they are in different folders 9 times out of 10 (in the My Documents area). And even the ones that do have them in the game folder tend to leave them there.

Thank you sir :)

I was afraid I would delete even the save files if I hit the " delete local content " button.

A post I just made in the favorite alien species thread reminded me that I'm looking for a specific gaming experience, and this seems like the best place to ask.

I have no experience with the Warhammer 40k video games, board games, or books. However, I have read some of the Wiki articles about its lore, and I was fascinated. Most interesting of all was the article about the Tyranids. This leads to my gaming question: Is there a video game (Warhammer or not) out there where I can experience the feel of being a Tyranid, or Tyranid-like species? That is, a playable race of ever-multiplying, ever-evolving, unstoppable, horrifying monsters that overrun their enemies with sheer numbers and brute force? I would prefer a single-player experience.

I was wondering just how much is different during the second playthrough of NieR. I want to play it, but I just don't think I have the time to, so I'm considering just watching the second run ending to find out what everyone loves so much about it.

I really like the game, but I'm moving abroad next week, and I'm not taking my 360.

Why are there so many people on gaf that are so stressed out that they don't enjoy a paticular genre of game.

I see this all the time, someone asking for advice on how they can get into something like a western rpg for example. It's just seems so absurd that people feel like that have to like what others like.

It sort of reminds me of people that punish themselves by forcing themselves to beat a game they dont enjoy.... just let it go.

Are you looking to play against other people or mostly play single player?

I'd say if you're looking for lots of single player content I'd go with injustice or MK depending on your character preference. If you want to get into fighting games and actually compete go with SF.

Pikmin. Technically.

More in line with your intent, the Zerg in Starcraft would be the most obvious suggestion.

Why is there STILL clipping in video games? Especially cutscenes

Per-poly collision detection can get very, very expensive. That's not the only reason, but it's a big one.

It should - in principle - be avoidable in cutscenes if you're using completely canned animations and have total control of character position, but even so, it's a lot of effort for very little reward.

If you want to be a Tyranid then I can point you to Dawn of War 2 Retribution. You can play through the main campaign of that game with any of the playable races (which include Tyranids) and it is a stand alone expansion so you don't have to own DoW2 to play it. Unlike the other races in that game which focus around limited strong hero units, the Tyranids have a strong central mother unit that spawns off every off numerious supporting units so they have the feeling of numbers and overwhelming force that we all know and love from them.

Failing that, I found Starcraft (both 1 and 2 with the Zerg) and Grey Goo (although the Goo is more of a nano machine based race then a biological menace) both do a good job capturing the unstopable and ever growing nature of the Tyranids in their own respective games.

Are there any games like Trackmania but not as intensely fast? Bonus points for being on console. Bonus bonus points for current gen.

What do you mean by 'like Trackmania'? The construction side of things? The arcadiness? The time trial focus?

What areas of Trackmania have you played? They're not all as fast as Stadium (And, to be fair, Island is faster)

Apart from the existing recommendations for Starcraft Zerg rush style, Natural Selection 1 and 2 although multiplayer only let you play as a tyrannid like species evolving to different forms to combat space marines

Well, since I'm new to fighting games, I guess I will stick with single player first and then play online when I'm good at it.

What would nVidia's naming scheme be for their GPUs be now that they went from 2xx to 9xx? It seems too much to go with four digits. Go with two digits starting from 2x?

The arcadey tracks with flips and loops and stuff. The hot wheels track aspect. And I haven't played any - just keep seeing Jeff on Giant Bomb play it and it sorta has me interested.

Id probably play some of the single player to get used to it, then as soon as possible get into online. You will get beat loads, but you will learn how to play the game a lot better against people. The cpu falls into patterns (fairly predictable) which will get you into habits when playing online.

Well, you might be best off with Trackmania itself. Rally and Coast are comparatively slow. I think Bay isn't too speedy either. The problem is that Stadium is usually front-and-centre (because it was the free component in Nations) so impressions of it tend to override the others.

That said, I feel obliged to point out that Rally and Coast don't have loops, as far as I can remember... in part because you kind of have to go pretty fast to get around one!

If you're more into the precision aspect of it than the time-trial aspect of it, you might be interested in Platform mode, which is a mode entirely based around getting from A to B on a course without having to reset; heavy emphasis on precise jumping, no real focus on speed (except what's required to clear the jumps!)

I'll definitely get it if it ever comes out for console. It looks like a lot of fun. And I'm sure I'd get used to the speed after awhile.

Is it possible to switch the X and O buttons on a non-Japanese PS3 so that O is confirm instead of cancel? I had a Japanese PSP and still play a fare bit of Japanese games on the Vita so I'm more used to having O as confirm now and get confused when I switch to the PS3.

My random dumb gaming question:

Can you buy a Game Time Token in WoW if you're on a free 7-day "welcome back" plan?

I don't want to pay cash to play anymore.

But I gots da gold.

Thanks

You should be able to buy it via the auction house or if your game time runs out you'll get a message on your log in screen asking you to buy a month with gold.

Thank you all. These are exactly the kind of replies I was hoping for.

I've never played a RTS game before. It's always been an intimidating genre. But for some reason, reading that Tyranid Wiki article and then the Zerg Wiki article has me all pumped up to play.

I looked to see if there were any Warhammer or StarCraft Civ V mods where I could play as the Tyranids/Zerg, and I was disappointed. I thought for sure there would be mods for that...

Can I use the same external hard drive on both Wii U and Xbox One (And maybe 360, too, it'd probably good to get around to getting all my gubbins off Xbox Live), or does one of them like to format the drive on its terms and want exclusive use of the space?

For the Wii U, stipulations are maximum 2TB and you should have a dedicated power supply along with (Nintendo recommends). They recommend not to use flash/SSD/USB/etc. but you can do.

For using the same HDD on another device, it appears not.

Once a device has been configured for use with a Wii U console, it cannot be used with another Wii U console, PC, etc., unless it is reformatted.

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/la...general_info&submenu=wup-external-usb-storage

Other tidbits

Can a USB storage device formatted for Wii U be reformatted for any other devices, like a PC?
Yes, a USB storage device that has been formatted for Wii U can be reformatted for other devices. Reformatting the device will erase all of its data, which cannot be recovered afterwards. For instructions on reformatting your device using a PC or other device, please contact the device manufacturer.

Can I use a USB storage device formatted for a Wii U with another person's Wii U system?
No. External USB storage devices that are exclusively formatted for Wii U can only be used with the one system for which it is formatted. The only way to use your USB storage device on another Wii U is to reformat it.
Reformatting the device will erase all of its data and this data cannot be recovered.

Should you decide to stop using it on the Wii U, you will more than likely have to delete that partition in disk management (assuming Windows machine) before your PC will assign it a drive letter and let you format it.

On what platform will you play Battlefront 3? (if any)

For the first time Im actually considering this for a shooter. Normally always PC

This, because Battlefield Hardline was arguably better received on consoles, and still has a better community on consoles than on PC.

I fear that Battlefront might get the same treatment and play as well if not better on consoles, especially due to the 3rd person and vehicle combat.

Are there any sports games that will let me play as a new franchise entering into a league? I'm not looking for a franchise mode but one where I can enter a league already in progress and go through doing an expansion draft where I can draft other players. I have always wanted a game to have this feature but have never found one that fits the bill. Can be any sport, just want to experience building a team from nothing into something.

Hi guys I don't know where I can ask this so here it goes..

I'm moving to an apartment building, and the WiFi there is shared, that's not good for my games! Tough we have cable TV there, my question is, can I connect a modem to the tv cable and get Ethernet there?

My understanding is that both TV and internet run through the same cable, is that correct?

Why can't the ps2 memory card write/read ps1 saves, but the browser will let you transfer them?!

I guess PSX games expect that 15 blocks format of a PSX memory card. Probably also why even the PSOne Classics on PS3/Vita/PSP use virtual memory cards with 15 blocks. But PS2 memory cards are still a nice way to backup PSX saves (at least until that memory card craps out).

My OG 3DS' Circle pad skin is out. It's pretty worn out too. Should I try to glue it back?

Why are there constantly new updates on steam for every Half Life game, even for Lost Coast?

What are they even updating there?

Usually its just the Source Engine being updated and that's applied to most Source games in your library, or at least most Source games made by Valve.

Toppot

Member
Do these games benefit in some form from that? Visually or performance wise?

Depends on what is updated in the Source Engine. I don't think they often improve visually but small performance tweaks in the engine will sometimes make the older games perform better. Sometimes they are updated to support newer Steam features like Big Picture Mode.

What console generation? On ps2 there was All Star Baseball 2006 that did exactly what you described. You pick a city, logo, uniform, stadium, etc. For the draft you were allowed to pick players from other teams though you could only pick so many of a certain rating. The rating consisted of a grading system of A,B,C,D and F(A is the best, F is the worst). So for instance you would be able to pick 2 A players, 3 B, 10 C, etc.

I know there are probably some others games I just have to think back.
