Even if they play nothing alike anymore, I have a difficult time justifying Guile in the initial line up when we have Nash. One weird-haired sonic boomer is enough to start with. Guile can feature into the story, he doesn't need to be starting lineup for it.

I'd be so bummed if they revealed Guile. I mean... I really hope that's not an option.
As you say, Nash fills that spot perfectly, and he looks more interesting to boot.

Vega is already bit of a disappointment for me. He looks cool, but he's not a very exciting pick.
I understand the need to win the old crowd first, but I find the "classic" characters extremely boring in general. Never had any desire to play Vega, Blanka, Balrog, etc.

I'll be content as long as there's one unique 3S character in there. (Please be Urien.)

but green character can just mean sf2 characters, like they have meant so far. Vega reinforces this is the point.
That's what I meant by Vega disproving my initial theory. Unless he turns out to be a Blue character, which I doubt it.

I just don't want the game to be filled with SF2 characters in the starting roster.

They've already brought back Ken, so they're not shy about bringing historically similar characters back with a updated play style. Same thing here. It will displease some people who want no similarities even on a surface level. However, I just can't see Capcom seeing it the same way when they totally redesigned Nash's gameplay, leaving an opening for his style, and are bringing back the character whose dog tags Guile has worn around his neck since SF2. I could be wrong, and they might not put him in the 16, but it would go against everything that seems to have fallen into place for it happening and would be a complete disservice to the lore not to have him be a focus both in story and in the core cast. It's a necessary evil (ymmv).

Guile and the new Nash don't place alike tho so he's no filling any spot. In fact they probably changed up Nash because of Guile. I don't think he'll be on the initial roster tho.

Well that's kind of my point. They already did it with Ken and Ryu, we don't need any other pairs back together in the initial roster. Guile will be along at some point, but having him as one of the first 16 is a hit to diversity. We already have enough SF2. We already have a military guy with stupid hair, sonic booms, and flashy kicks (if not necessarily Flash Kicks). We don't need Guile or Remy out the gate.

Diversity in play styles is what really matters and if the green is SF2 characters which it does seem to be, we have another two on the way whether you like it or not.

I kind of like Vega's outfit, I feel like I've seen it before somewhere in a previous game but it does remind me of John Smith from Pocahontas and Guybrush Threepwood from Monkey Island.

I think we're just kinda arguing on what "we don't need" means. I think the story/franchise/game do need Guile because his story arc is possibly one of the longest running ones of the IP coming to a head with Nash back and the gameplay hole now. I think that's more important than both having goofy hair or being military. Those seem too minor in comparison. You could say we don't need two karate guys, but that's generalizing the characters too much given the history. Anyway, agree to disagree on this one :) Hopefully we get more definitive answers soon.

For what it's worth, Guile and Abel both had very strong ties and references to Nash and that storyline was present in SFIV, that didn't necessitate an appearance from him, however. Similarly, I don't think that Nash being in in SFV's core roster means that Guile must be in the main 16, either. Hell if they want to push ties to Nash, they could just as well include Abel or even Remy. Or, given Nash's forehead-gem, focus more around what seems to be his new tie-in with the Illuminati and show some connection to Urien, or Alex, or Necro (as a fellow subject of the Illuminati's experimentations). This is all assuming that what's happened to Nash will be one of the story's focal points (it may not be explained at all, hell), but even if it is, Guile is just the most obvious direction to tell that story, not the only one.

Not that I have anything against Guile, even, but boy it'd be nice to get some other characters more deeply involved in what's actually happening rather than the focus being on the same Ryu/Akuma/Bison/Chun/etc World Warriors group all over again.

Vega's inclusion is...weird in a character/story sense to me, but who knows, maybe they'll find something interesting for him to do if they're going to try and put a real focus on him as part of the core group this time around. Despite being a former Shadaloo boss, he feels really disconnected from the rest of the goings-on to me.

Getting one without the other would be weird. Fans of the non-included one would be pretty salty.

They'll probably both be available as DLC simultaneously. Launch roster seems a little limited to have them.

Yun has appeared in games by himself (although I think Yang appeared in his supers)

Were people expecting a new character announcement today or did it come out of nowhere? I had no idea it was happening but I hadn't heard anything and wasn't exactly trying to find out when the next one was.

My roster pic theory was that Green was for returning characters that haven't been completely overhauled, Blue for revamped vets, and purple for newcomers. Vega likely killed that off.

I said that early today and I'll stick with it.

Capcom said "Birdie feels like a complete new charachter. but that doesn't mean he'll take a spot from an actually new character". And we can agree by people opinion that charlie feels the same way.
Can we say that from Vega? No, cuz it's not like he plays different. With claw it's the same old Vega and without them it just give him more tools. Same goes for Ken, that might be a rushdown character but he still plays like a shoto.

I do wanna belive that blue means "Characters that have been remake and feel like newcomers"

At this point I am of the following mindset; either of the following will occur
1- We will get 2 more characters from SF2
2- We will get 2 more characters that were in SF4

Capcom pls.

This is why Vega wears a mask.

[edit]

I hope they don't go overboard with the costumes this time around. Some of the costumes got way too silly in SF4, I'd rather them do "cool" costumes than silly ones.

I'm genuinely starting to believe the last two SFII characters are Sagat and Balrog. Four heroes, four villains. People have been clamoring for a charge character, and hey Balrog is one! Sagat is pretty shoto-y, we always have room for one or two dozen more. Hopefully the blue area on that map is not just for Alpha characters. We all need Juri. All of us.

Though I wouldn't be too stressed if your favorite doesn't make the cut. This game is probably going to be loaded with DLC. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a DLC character announced before the game is released. If the game comes out in March, I guarantee you we will have 2-3 DLC fighters by the end of summer.

I hope the next reveal is an out of left field character just to see all you theorycrafters try to work it into your fan fiction

Yeah, I don't believe that will be happening with Ono in charge, dude likes to clown around. But let's hope for the best together.:)
They should hire some (ex-)SNK folks for stylish and cool designs.
