iOS Gaming August 2015 | Last chance to play your favorites before iOS9 breaks them

I dare say that for some specific genres there are even TOO MANY good games coming out in the very same timeframe...which is unfortunate because I fear some very good games could suffer from this (first days on the AppStore are the most important).

Looking for a new game myself and I'm debating between This war of mine, Transistor, Lara Croft GO, Calvino Noir, possibly Galactic Keep and who knows what else...

Is anyone else playing The Guides already? My eyes are glazing over looking for the repeated pattern in the first challenge. :(

Do you mind if I ask if you guys can give our game, Star Bridge a play? We have only had 44 people download it. I also know about 7 of those people personally.

Downloaded it, played it. Is nice, but starts out really slow. The controls are good and responsive but not so much when trying to collect coins, ammo boxes and things like that on the floor. Coins gathering is very slow, doesn't give much confidence to invest in this game with a rate like that... I like when the ship fires and destroys stuff. I like the speed the ship has. I like the theme, inspired by the Star Wars trench run. Gameplay is nice and fresh, but the game is not engaging enough for me, and I quite love the genre, is my favorite. Played every game in this genre. Every hit had something going on for them: Love Worm Run and Boson X because of the adrenaline rush they provide me, love Time Surfer because is really fun to keep a combo and stay on the air as maximum as possible, love Whale Trail because of the happiness it evokes, love Dragon Hills because of the rampage destruction. Every game has something extra going on for them that kept them above the rest of the genre, pretty dull in the average. Your game, doesn't have the thrills it needs to survive. Sorry for being so harsh but I am honest above all, no matter what :D

It will be out at the end of the month, august 28th. Free to play (only ads) and I dont know, all we tried was controls, fun factor, possible bugs, survival, exploration and stuff like that. I hope so, something like Out There could be great for it. My guess: You will like it and if not is was free so nothing to lose.

Update: Pushed back to September 3rd due to PAX being on the weekend before it.

Found this game called Dungeon Trackers (pretty sure its on Android also) on IOS and thought I would share with Gaf

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dungeon-trackers/id937113184?mt=8

its a Gatcha game which seems similar to something like Brave Frontier, its pretty good so far and i'm digging the artstyle and the sprites are pretty cool.

Similar mechanics to other games like it, collect character cards which are represented by unique sprites, enhance them, evolve them. Special dungeons, daily dungeons, etc.

I'm not sure how much anyone is still interested in these games but figured it couldnt hurt to spread the word My only real issue so far is that the game tends to crash occasionally but it has not happend very frequently for me.

I got Steven Universe: Attack the Light on sale the other day, and I gotta say I'm very impressed. The mobile RPG I have ever played, at least thus far (I'm halfway through the second world). I love the Paper Mario-esque battle system, the accessible "swipe to explore" control scheme and the awesome visual style and soundtrack.

Deathwatch is on sale for $2.99. WTF? I had hoped they were doing well so am surprised to see it go on sale so soon. It was already a bargain at $4.99.

What's €4.99 / £3.99 in USD? That's the price of Dungeon of the Endless on iPad

Apple recently updated its pricing on Europe to match the US one, something Steam did a while ago... so, all in all, we are paying MORE for Apps than americans do right now... something not fair at all in my point of view, so 1$ = 1€ when it should be 1$ = 0,89€

I don't think US prices include sales tax like they do in Europe.

Never bought an app on the US so I dont know, but in Europe we have a 21% tax, even if I live on a special place (Canary Islands, a peripheral islands) where we have a 4.6% tax. Because of that, Apple doesn't sell online or have a shop where I live. I would like to know if the US has taxes to see how fair is it or it was my mind who jumped to assumptions ealy.

Expect physical cards/products as well.

WARNING, sarcasm ahead: WHOOHOO... like Nintendo and their toys. YES!!!!

I wish you had tested it before we released it.

Honestly I couldn't get by the first door so I gave up hahah. Maybe include a tutorial or something for dummies like me.

Yeah this is why the "If Doom was made today video" is not really a comedy but what a developer actually needs to do. The update in review should help.

I do a lot of beta testing for many games. For like 4 years now. Trying to help and improve games as much as I can. Not so much for bug hunting but for quality and ideas. Hit me anytime I will be glad to help out :)

I saw that wall, moved around until it started shooting, noticed the red squares, continued normally. I guess I am used to explore and discover things in games by myself.

There is a heated discussion over at TA telling us, premium lovers, to "put our money where our mouth is" -something I do, I buy everything on sight but I still like to talk as well xD-, and in the comments I found an excellent comment about the different kind of gamers and their habits. Couldn't say it any better myself:

There are least two types of gamers. The first is a group that likes to have fun. The second is a group that wants to waste time. F2P games represent the best bet for a time waster because they can get their fix for free. The fun group probably likes to spend their time playing higher quality games so they'll gravitate towards premium.

Damn. Well, I'll be happy to pay for it. Just want it sooner!

Ah! Me too!!!
Waiting two days will be painful!!!
(Beta expired)

thanks @More_Badass

just played the tutorial of Galactic Keep

fuckkkkk this is great

:)))
It gets better.

I do not want to be repetitive nor raising the hype glorious bar too high just so everyone will be let down...but guys don't sit on this one.
It's a true labor of love, and you will notice at every encounter.

I love how every individual attack and creature has unique vivid descriptions

Surprise release ahead: Ski Safari 2, the sequel to one of the AppStore most fun endless runners ever (the animals are just hilarious) is coming on the 27th for 1.99$. I need that game now...

Looks polished, but I'm been burnt out on endless runners for a while.

I understand that, there are so many on the AppStore, probably the most crowded genre on the AppStore. But I am definitely not burnt on them, quite the contrary, I love them. I never asked for something like this before, but if someone could provide me a code for Ski Safari 2 you will have my eternal gratitude! A TestFlight invite also works for me. Someone? Pretty please?

Edit: I even dreamt that I got one last night, went to sleep again and a similar dream happened again. I need it. Shame on me for this, but I want one...

So is anyone checking out Dungeon of the Endless? Last time I played it was when it was still early in dev and was on Steam Early Access, so I'm excited to play the finished game

It's a really challenging blend of sci-fi dungeon crawler, tower defense, and roguelike, with gorgeous pixel art. A lot of depth, due to all the characters, skills, modules, gear, and modifiers you can unlock, plus the synergy between characters, module abilities and buffs, and skills

Should play well on touch screen. You don't attack directly but rather play defense modules, position characters, choose which doors to open. Your characters attack automatically

Sounds like something I'd be interested in. Is it officially coming to mobile?

Tomorrow. $4.99, iPad

Oh wow, I just Googled it right after I read your post and found the little TA article on it. Didn't know it was coming so soon.

Looks nice! Impossible to keep up with all the games coming out with so many unfinished ones already.

While browsing the AppStore and their "Pay once, play without IAP" new section I found one game I didnt own: Digit & Dash from Insomniac Games (creators of some PlayStation games) and is an interesting auto-runner with a fresh premise. You have to control two characters at the same time and avoid dangers along each level, but Insomniac added a new mechanic into it to make it stand out and interesting: the ability to slam the floor sending the character in the air to jump more, being able to reach higher. This mechanic is further used in some puzzling where you need to use one character to help the other avoid obstacles, solve puzzles and more. I played every single auto-runner on the AppStore and Digit & Dash is fresh and unique, hard as nails and extremely polished. For 1$, dive in.

Pretty slow going today, it seems. Don't see anything from the usual sources about stuff popping up on the NZ store.

Definately going to get Galactic Keep tonight and maybe Dungeon of the Endless, but may put that on my wish list. Still haven't even come close to finishing even normal on Deathwatch with more games just waiting for my attention.

The appstore isn't working on NZ time anymore. New releases will pop up at midnight AU time (in an hour). It's weird but it's been working like that for a few weeks now.

really interested in hearing other peoples' thoughts on Galactic Keep.

i'm digging the feeling of progression - even when my bros die, i'm able to recover them and continue forward. it's tough, but it respects the players time and always feels rewarding.

and boy howdy, is it just oozing with atmosphere. i don't often play iOS games with their audio but this game has solid sound direction to match it's great writing & art.

Ahhh that explains a lot of stuff going on with releases lately... thanks so much killercow. So I have to get used to this new time zone then :D

The presentation of Galactic Keep is a little underwhelming for my tastes, but I'll keep an eye on impressions.

While old, this video well represents the game IMHO...even if everything should be experienced first hand, headphones in hears (athmosphere is everything in this game).

http://youtu.be/Y3hj24grzXM

Like I said in my first old preview (November?) it's like they game-ified a D&D module (the old D&D, the 80 D&D) with a setting that is blend between Space 1999 and Star Trek TOS, written and hand painted by someone on LSD.

And everything seems like a pencil drawing.

It's very peculiar and maybe not everyone cup of tea, but IMHO it's a great experience, different from everything else.
And to be more clear (completed the game several times) it's not just experience...it's a full fledged RPG with characters, stats, loot, inventory, weapons etc....

As much as I'd love to replay FF VII on my iPad, I don't know. There's so many original releases and PC ports I haven't played coming out just in the next two weeks along with my enormous backlog.

But damn, I want it too. :(

And, ouch, over 2 GB installed and 4 needed to install. Kind of expected it, but still..

Decisions, decisions...

Maybe in screenshots, but trust me, the game is insanely polished presentation-wise. The sound design really brings the game to life. Everything down to each monster's individual attacks is described in detailed text.
