The Mega-Cave Shooter Post, because they're totally awesome and sweet

Well it seems like I didn't make my homework, thank you. :p

What's the opinion on the easiest CAVE's games to 1cc? Without considering the second loop of course. Dodonpachi is proving to be a challenging but fair 1cc, and the game gives you so many bombs I think it could be cleared without even trying to dodge anything in the last two stages if one manages to play well in the first four.
I heard Mushi original is quite doable, but what about the other games?

I'd say the easiest handful from what I've played are (easier to harder)

Deathsmiles
DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu (using Strong)
DoDonPachi
Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 Original

I haven't beaten Espgaluda yet. As SOME-MIST said, most of the game is easy but the final boss gets rough. DonPachi also seems awfully easy.

Finally got a one-credit clear of Espgaluda! This is actually my first STG 1CC as well as my first Cave 1CC. I'm really happy to have pulled it off finally; Jakou had me stumped for a while.

So awesome. I'm kind of in disbelief. Curious to see which games make it to PC.
Pink Sweets and Deathsmiles IIX only. Please understand.

Jokes aside I'm not as excited as I thought I would be finally reading this news. Maybe it's too early in the morning.

Here is my rating of likelihood for what this means.

  • My guess would be it is most likely, depending on the localization deal Cave had in place with publishers like RSG, that the games that have already been localized will make it. Stuff like Deathsmiles and Akai Katana.
  • Second to that is dumping the games as is with no localisation at all.
  • Much less likely is new localisations.
I am also curious if we are going to see ports or arcade emulation and the accuracy of it all. Interesting to see what will come of it. Hopefully they are good. It would be nice to be able to reasonably pay for a copy of DDP after all these years.

For reference here is Degica's publisher page on steam: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?publisher=Degica

Never had any problems with Degica's games on Steam, all of them run pretty well and none are emulations as far I know.

I'd say that the changes of a proper localisation are not so low.

I don't know these first two games you posted but A-Train 8 seems to be a localisation. I'm pretty sure that I have an english version of that game that I got from a bundle and it seems the english one was taken off the store in favor of A-Train 9 ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/324280/ ).

So I think these games are intended for the Japanese market? It does seems that it's intentional.

Degica has a few things out on Mac but it is a pretty short list. They said the future depends on how the first game does so ports to the other OSes is probably a possibility. Who knows how likely though.

What I need to know is can it work on the new Portable Steam Machine handheld once I buy cave shmups?

I want this to be a reality on the Smach Zero so I can have haptic controlled Cave shmups on the go.

I haven't even seen that thing before. Looks like a rendered mockup. Is it legit?

Vertical resolution would be my main concern with it.

I am the strongest. B)
I know how unimpressive this is since the first loop of Dodonpachi is actually not that hard at all but every time I tried to do a full run I started choking under my own tension every time I got to the 4th stage, and I'm really proud of this run since I reached the 6th stage with 4 lives and proceeded to bomb every single thing I dodged like 5 bullets

I find if I can get through the second half of Stage 3 all the way up to stage 4 boss without losing a life and with maximum bombs, my 1CC is in the bag.

I bomb the FUCK out of Stage 6, fuck all that you aint bout to catch me getting hid by a stray bullet at this point

I actually died during the second half of the third stage because I panicked (this game does things to my nerves...) but I said fuck it I was tired of restarting and I am actually really confident about my route in the 4th stage since I've trained it so much.

One day I want to come back to it and learn the other ship types they seem like tons of fun!

After picking up the IOS version for free I'm thinking about getting either Mushihimesama 1 and Futari on PCB for my supergun so I can finally have perfect versions of the games. Do the standard PCBs for 1 and Futari come with Ultra Mode or is Ultra only available on the home versions or the Black Label PCBs for Ultra? Also should I go 360 route, are the Black label XBLA download vouchers still redeemable?

I believe Ultra mode on Mushihimesama is an unlockable but can also be unlocked via a code. It's exceedingly rare to find a PCB for which this hasn't been done, from what I understand. Futari offers Ultra mode but Futari Black Label offers God mode instead. There is no Mushihimesama Black Label, though there is the somewhat recent 1.5.

The pack-in bonus download codes for Futari were for 1.01, not Black Label. They're likely expired on paper by now, though I don't know if that means the codes are actually deactivated. At this point though, you're probably better off getting the Cave Shooting Collection, which has a disc with all the preorder DLC.

I think I still have unused 1.01 Futari and Muchi Pork Matsuri codes tucked away somewhere. Had no idea about the expiration. Should try to redeem those and hope that they're still good. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm going to need a Japan account to redeem both codes right?

Yes, they have to be redeemed on a Japanese XBL account. They'll still be usable on any account so long as you're playing them on the same console on which they were originally redeemed.

Thanks for the info, can a Japanese account be set up on a U.S. 360? I'm not sure I'm going to opt for the shooting collection, isn't the Cave box really expensive now? Plus there are a few games on there like Deathsmiles which I have no interest in (I really dislike overly emphasized goth/loli style), are the games themselves on separate discs in the box? Are any of the games in the box region free?

Yeah if you could try redeeming those codes and let us know that would be a huge help here in the thread and for folks like me who are waffling between the PCBs, Cave collection, or individual 360 versions.

I can't recall since I set mine up on a NTSC-J 360 a while ago but here are the instructions from the shmups forum. Probably outdated by this point, but the basic idea should be the same. Worth a shot.
  • From My Xbox, choose System Settings, and set Locale to Japan.
  • From My Xbox, choose Xbox Live and press A.
  • Press A on the first screen, choose "Create an account" on the next.
  • Enter anything for your real name.
  • Enter your email and password, they can be anything.
  • Choose a secret question, enter anything for an answer. The secret question should be in Japanese.
  • Enter date of birth.
  • Skip through all of the proceeding menus, then it will proceed to create your account.
  • It will generate a random gamertag for you, which you can change afterwards for free.
  • If successful, your account should show the store names above My Xbox (on the dashboard) as ゲームマーケットプレース and ビデオマーケットプレース.
  • To change your gamertag, go to your profile and select "Change Gamertag".
  • You're done! Congratulations on your brand new Japanese 360 account!
--- If you're asked to put in a zip code, which you shouldn't be, but is required for credit card registration, choose 530-0001 and it should automatically fill out everything.

Didn't see it mentioned yet: You can now buy digital versions of soundtracks from Cave games on iTunes and Amazon worldwide. Prices I've seen are €9.99 on Amazon.de and £8.99 on UK iTunes.

OSTs available:

Akai Katana
Dangun Feveron
Deathsmiles
DoDonPachi DaiOuJou
DoDonPachi DaiFukkatsu
DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou
Espgaluda II
Ibara
Ketsui
Muchi Muchi Pork
Mushihimesama
Mushihimesama Futari
Pink Sweets

Looks like the Espgaluda II soundtrack is the 1-disc version that was bundled with the game, not the standalone 2-disc release as the cover would suggest.

I already own the former but I would have gladly paid for the latter - but it looks like there is no arrange content in any of these releases as yet.

Happy to see these showing up in digital storefronts. Looks like Amazon is still sorting it out as you can find them individually, but if you click on the artist 'Cave' you get uh... a listing of a few albums from some band named Cave.

Yes, my favorite post bullet hell acid punk jazz fusion band.. Cave.

No arrange content is a shame. This track from the Pink Sweets OST is maybe my favorite track from a Cave game.
