This is what I meant. Tried it again. FOBs messing with SP missions.

This is really awful.

Gaming was a cool thing once, before people with psychology degrees figured out how best to milk people of their money like this.

I'd suggest we put the pitchforks away until we figure out the exact rate at which we earn MB Coins through single player.

Guess it's pitchfork time now, brother. The rate you earn them in single player is 0.

The reason MGO does not launch until October is probably to patch in Facebook linking.

Looks like I'll be returning my copy and getting this used. Unless everyone makes a big stink and Konami does something about this in the next couple of hours... but I doubt it.

Do you think the reviewers at the review event had to pay Konami money for their MB coins so they could test out all the features in the game they gave 10/10 scores when they got back to the office?

So pretty much it doesn't change the story missions, but hinders the optional missions if you want to 100% it.
I gather it is time based lock-outs unless you build more bases via coins which are hard to come by? Sounds like F2P tactics to me.

Only Gamespot mentioned how they couldn't build another FOB and thought to unlock them was by microtransactions. Seems they were wrong in that you need coins.

There we go. The tweet I linked made it seem weird, but if the community manager is saying we can't earn MB coins without buying them...the dream is dead.
Maybe you can't earn those coins in game but that doesn't matter if the coins are just accelerators for in-game resources you can already aquire at a slower pace.

As always this will be described as completely optional and as a way to offer players more choice or convenience. The usual bullshit justifications. It's always the same.

"Game of the year, guaranteed!"

That is, thanks to controlled environment reviews which are saying the game is a gift from the gods. Nauseating stuff on display with this game.

I feel like we need a separate thread about the MB coin issue. I am pretty pissed off; the FOB stuff looked really cool and I am pretty pissed that it is locked behind some shitty paywall.

Reviewers simply didn't try out the FOBs. Offline features only.

Indeed. That is the same exact line that we are fed for free to play games, but at least those are free.

Being forced to spend time grinding resources because you haven't payed Konami extra money definitely matters. To me, at least.

I thought the whole point of the FOB's was for multiplayer interaction; so you can assault and defend FOB's. If I don't purchase an FOB I miss out on a pretty big chunk of the game, if i'm reading all this correctly. It matters to me as well.

Welp, I've already got my PS4 and this game coming tomorrow (god willing), but that doesn't mean I have to spend any money on this. I'll play MGS5 until I get bored, and if I start hitting frustrating pay walls - that will probably happen quicker than I would have liked..

I ain't doing this Konami, sorry.

You start out with one FOB for free.

Check the screenshot above. More FOBs = more troops to deploy = faster resource gathering in the single-player game.

Matters to me too. Just mean to say that I don't think it's a hard paywall - requiring extra purchases to play with FOBs. By making premium accelerators they can always describe the system as optional and unobtrusive - even though we all know they program these obstacles into the game on purpose in the first place.

What are you trying to say?

A Konami executive came out the other day and proclaimed this as being the guaranteed GOTY. And I am saying that it will probably win such awards due to the review boot camp that no doubt tainted such glowing reviews due to the controlled environment and hiding of features such as this. It's easy to see and it's sickening.

From what I read in this thread, you get the main FOB and than another one for playing the story, it's additional after that where you need to spend on these coins since It sounds like there's no free way to earn the coins.

I don't have an issue with the coins being for sale but I have a huge issue with it being the only way to get additional bases and no way to earn bases by playing the game.

Hopefully it's balanced decently that I can ignore it, because I don't do micro-transactions (If you can even call 20 bucks micro).

Konami EU just told me you can get coins in game without spending money :S
Konami has been saying you can get money but apparently two reviewers have never gotten any coins. So apparently I guess you have to beat some optional missions to get them.

One thing I don't really understand is why they would sell the coins in low increments like 100 or 550 if the cheapest items are over 1000 coins? This would imply that you can earn these coins in game somehow, right? Though I guess I wouldn't put it past Konami to pull something so stupid.
