Valve has a long, rich history of banning sexy lesbian ghost games from its Steam platform, but Kindred Spirits on the Roof has scored (sex term) a win for the erotic in getting off on Steam without any censorship.

Head translator on the project Kouryuu called this, "monumental news for the industry as a whole.

"Everything will be open and up-front with this release; no off-site patch or workarounds. Kindred Spirits will be sold on Steam completely uncensored. Seeing frank depictions of same-sex relationships welcomed on such a major gaming platform is a true testament to the open-mindedness of our society and the growing desire for mature entertainment that people of all walks of life can enjoy."

Kindred Spirits, "focuses on a lesbian relationship between two ghost girls who haunt an all-girls academy and the unrequited feelings in their hearts, unable to fully experience love during their lives," so it's probably not hardcore porno, but it still might be the first adult visual novel to make it on Steam unscathed.

does the game contain any straight up nudity / sex scenes?

It should be noted all Yuri content is fairly softcore, but this is still a good step for visual novel fans who want to see less restrictions on content.

If it's not an eroge, why would it be banned?

Well, "Banned" isn't quite the right word, there has been a lot of censorship on visual novels since they began to be accepted on Steam as a service. For hardcore sex simulations and VNs with highly pornographic content, it makes sense that Valve wouldn't want those. But visual novels with suggestive outfits and softcore sexual scenes weren't allowed onto the service unless the content was removed or replaced. One of the games had an alternate outfit for a character that was less revealing than some of the Dead or Alive costumes, but they were still refused until it was "fixed".

Regardless of the content of the game, it's good to see the restriction of adult content disappearing.
Maybe Nitroplus can be arsed to start putting their games on Steam now? Phenomeno? Steins;Gate? Pls?

Now we need Flowers for true yuri goodness.

I keep hoping JAST will announce a Steam release at some point.

Steins;Gate cannot happen because the JP rights holders will not give JAST permission to put the game on Steam and don't seem willing to bother putting it on there themselves. Digital rights with Japanese publishers can be... tricky, to say the least.

Correct me if I'm wrong but afaik this game is super tame.
A good step but nothing to write an article about.
Tell me again when I can buy Lilith Soft titles on steam.

Basically.
I don't know if you should be using those arrows on GAF though.

Why are visual novels considered games?

Well that was a short thread.

Well, if nothing else, this is a big step in the right direction in terms of relaxing content restrictions. Quite frankly, I honestly think that allowing violence-porn like MK10 on Steam while restricting sexual content is a huge double standard.

Sure it is /s.

While I'd love to be wrong, the summary doesn't give off the impression that it's meant for women.
