Sexy lesbian ghost game comes to Steam uncensored

Sure it is /s.

While I'd love to be wrong, the summary doesn't give off the impression that it's meant for women.

Would you know if something like Sakura's Trick audience is mostly straight men? I guess I never thought about that before, what would separate one audience from the other.

Steins;Gate cannot happen because the JP rights holders will not give JAST permission to put the game on Steam and don't seem willing to bother putting it on there themselves. Digital rights with Japanese publishers can be... tricky, to say the least.

I wonder what's the reasoning behind this, after all the game is also available on PSN for PS3&VITA.

It doesn't really matter if Visual Novels with sex scenes are censored as long as there are ways to patch it outside of Steam.

I think MangaGamer actually officially supports that method and provides a means to do so.

Yeah, I was thinking, "Nothing about this sounds like it will actually be sexy to lesbians..."

The PS games (handled by a different company than the PC game) are just localized versions with nothing changed to the distribution method. The PC localization worked the same way, and Nitroplus/JAST probably isn't giving permission to change/add the distribution method.

Going by the picture i'm surprised it was allowed with the whole possibility of these ghosts being school girls.

Lol, but to be fair, straight males is a much bigger demo than gay females, and I imagine that there is a considerable amount of overlap in taste. I wouldn't know from experience, but I assume that there are lesbians who are into cute anime girls. There is afterall that entire series of yuri games, Sono something or other, that I don't think are primarily targeted at males (or are they? I dunno).

"monumental news for the industry as a whole.
This part isn't wrong. This is a huge step forward for Steam and Valve, which have been traditionally prudish in their curation, forcing censorship onto these games before allowing them onto the store. After letting in all the greenlight garbage, they probably had a difficult time rationalising why they'd deny adult-rated games anymore.

I wonder if this signals a greater change at Valve. Maybe they're finally going to start moving forward to those fully-curated storefronts people keep talking about. Or maybe this is just classic Valve indifference.
My first thought was "you know what, I bet you there's a steam curator's group finding this out right now."

If Waifu Hunter doesn't do it, no curator will do it.

Valve has a long, rich history of banning sexy lesbian ghost games from its Steam platform...

I can't tell if this is Destructoid being cheeky or if such a specific sub-genre of Japanese erotic visual novels actually exists outside of just this game.

OP, something about the wording makes me feel like the implication is, this is more than one game, or series, but like, a really specific genre.

Like, are there seriously many games with this exact specific premise?

IDK, destructoid came up with the title.

(I thought it was called greentext... Though... it's only green on 4chan lol)

It's more or less a 4chan thing now, regardless of its original use.
It evolves from greentexting/shitposting to memetexting when outside of its dark and damp habitat

From what i gathered from the gamesite these 2 ghosts are playing matchmakers for different couples and help them confess their repressed/hidden feelings to each other.

There was also a grand total of 0 characters showing cleavage in the character art.

This looks more comedic/cute rather than full on Porn VN.

I won't say the target demo isn't men but at first glance this doesn't look immediately off putting for women looking for Yuri stuff.

Also the art reminds me of "stretch" for some reason.

+ nipples?

Sold.

EDIT: Hell, even if no nipples are shown, that's still more my kind of stuff, but it wouldn't make sense to celebrate it being uncensored if they don't even show nipples.

I haven't played the game yet so I can't comment on the content so much, but the yuri genre is historically primarily targeted at women in Japan and from what I'm aware of this game avoids the outright pornography of other 18+ yuri games like Sonohana and vapidness of stuff like Sakura Trick (aka stuff that actually is aimed primarily at straight guys). From what I've been told about the game from people who have read it and/or are working on it the content leans more toward the stuff you'd find in Yuri Hime, which has an audience that's slightly majority female.

I'm not saying that this work wasn't created with a male audience in mind in the first place (it's a Liarsoft game), but it doesn't seem to be like most primarily male-targeted yuri works either.

There's nothing too explicit in the images for this game either. No depictions of genitals or anything like that, there's stuff on Steam already that's rated M and is more explicit

It's a joke.

Of course there are. The Witcher series is on Steam, isn't it?

It's just Japanese eroge games haven't been able to get released onto Steam uncensored.

So not the first nipples on Steam, but the first anime nipples on Steam.
...That's a thing, I suppose.

An uncensored visual novel coming to Steam?

...that entire series of yuri games, Sono something or other...

...other 18+ yuri games like Sonohana...

That was it, thank you! Didn't want to Google it.

But yeah, there's a wealth of pornographic content that is intended for a female audience. The dead giveaway is that it tends to focus on character emotions rather than close-ups of naughty bits. I think that describes the majority of yuri content.
