Super Mario Maker |OT| Miyamoto Simulator 2015

Lol sorry Naar for the spin bouncing level. I could feel your suffering. It's pretty hard if you're not used to spin bouncing and its mechanics. In that room you got stuck a lot (3rd one), it's actually easier to just go for it quickly with lots of momentum instead of waiting.

no need to be sorry. i was just confused why i couldnt make the last jump :\

its not a hard level or anything and i actually made levels behind the spin jump mechanic :p but springs/music blocks are the bane of my existence since i played the very first mario game

I'd like some more feedback on this level if possible! From some Doctor Who fans, maybe? Also, I am going to be testing more GAF levels when I get home. PM me those codes!

EDIT: Wow, beaten by some feedback. XD

It's a good level. Very nice attention to detail. I died in my first run because I had trouble getting into the pipe at the end because it was hard to see with the pipes overlapping and the paraboos got me.

So, this challenge I threw in my The Cube level:

kQAIuVc.png

...was suddenly accepted today, with better and better times.

The current record is 49 seconds. Anybody else want in?

This is the level btw:

EDIT: Sorry, mistyped the record!

Made a level using only a few elements that I played around with in, I hope, interesting ways. Lava balls, wings, tracks, springs and 1 propeller mushroom await in

BTW, loved your stream last night. Subscribed!
Awesome thanks! That reminds me to repost the video so the makers can see their stages played last night. I will finish off the rest of the list today and possibly open it up for more submission.

Here is the archived version of my stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bANfO8aTX7Y

These are the stages I've played from the GAFers who submitted to my list:

I was able to complete most of those stages actually so I'm pretty happy about that ! Hope you guys enjoyed the stream and I cannot wait to play more stages probably tomorrow :) There are a couple of stages that I have yet to get to this time because of the amount of stages submitted is overwhelming, haha. Seems like my mic audio was a little lower than what I'd like. So I'm going to adjust for that next time. Hope you guys could hear properly.

I was actually really impressed with how quickly you learned and beat my stage. It's an intense stage that requires a bit of problem solving and you stuck with it despite your fatigue and completed it. Good stuff, Shiba.

Waiting for your stream, friend ;) Also, check out my (and Naar's) latest stream's level submission setup ! You can do the same with your stream and it's honestly about as professionally done as it can be :D Hopefully Youtube Gaming starts getting some third party app going as well if it can... then we can have bots and stuff. Or maybe they should just switch their chat to IRC and it'll be perfect. When I stream Mario Maker now there's always some jerks start saying offensive words in chat... why does this game attract trolls ? Haha

Yeah, I'll definitely do it that way for my next stream!
I've been lucky as far as offensive trolls in my streams, but I'l be sure to nominate some "mod" types in upcoming ones.

I'd like some more feedback on this level if possible! From some Doctor Who fans, maybe? Also, I am going to be testing more GAF levels when I get home. PM me those codes!

EDIT: Wow, beaten by some feedback. XD

I loved it! Daleks, Cybermen & Weeping Angels :D I especially loved the Cyberman conversion machine, very clever and creative. Great job!

I've recreated the Dam level from the original TMNT on the NES in all of it's frustrating glory!...
Well, gave it a shot anyway. I even included that prickly little pain in the ass gap that took forever to jump over.

D282-0000-0084-9E37

It's obviously a little different, though. The map is the same, but there are no mandatory bombs you need to diffuse, so I just replaced them with P blocks to give the level that little bit of urgency the original level had.

So, I'll do another NeoGAF-themed Mario Maker stream tomorrow at 8pm CET, which is a little less than 22 hours from now.

Once again, if you want your levels to be played for sure, send me a PM with the Course ID and I'll play it (but, depending on the difficulty, not necessarily beat it). First come, first serve. There are some levels that people sent in too late from last time, so those will definitely be played first.

It will once again be a simple stream with no voice over. Just the levels themselves. I will comment on them in the chat though.

I will put up a link to the stream an hour before it starts.

Come at me and send me your levels!

Feedback time!

if anyone wants to play my two latest, here's a repost of them.

Crystal Countdown Cavern
2BC8-0000-0080-CCA6

An underground level that somewhat revolves around the P-Switch. Includes a secret room and 3 hidden 1-Ups to find!

Starred! Pretty, well designed and the difficulty is just right. Well done!

Reposting for the new page. Going to be playing all the stages posted on this page after I come from work.

Shuttle Train

Great stage as always! I found "the look" a bit messy though. And it's missing a hook.

New level.

Mushroom Kingdom Bootstraps - A727-0000-0080-E605

WVW69icZ2V0jWa4-TY

Good level as well. A bit easy and short though. Nice sign-posting.

A943-0000-0081-F754 - Ice Ice Mario
Made my first SMB3 level, difficulty is normal (but seven people played it and nobody finished it..) . Hope to receive some comments how to make it better :)

EshQmnnl.jpg

I got stuck near the exit after killing the two koopas ! :(

Heavily inspired by one of the stages in Super Mario Bros. 3, I thought I'd take a shot at it. Not a tricky level but one I hope people find fun (if you actually play with the mechanic).

New Giant Land (FD79-0000-007F-0880)
WVW69icGfXc5S22tUy

Nice re-imagining of the famous SMB3 world. A bit too easy and short. Lacks a new twist on the formula.

New levels for GAF to try out! Any feedback appreciated. (The rest of my levels are here.)

xU9zqvN.jpg

Bom-omb Bridge (F0FA-0000-007B-A611)

Challenging but fair, no complaints from me.

Okay, been working on this one for a good long time:

Hanging Gardens of Dinosaur Land

I loved it. The setting is cool and the ramping in difficulty is very well done. I guess there is a secret at the end of the last ivy, before it falls, but I missed it. I will be back.

Daleks... Cybermen... Weeping Angels...

Can you survive a day in the life of The Doctor?

Very fun level with an incredible attention to details. How do you manage to cut the sound? I don't know how to do that...

Now here are some of my levels, which don't seem to gather a lot of attention from players, I guess I could use some advice!

YOSHI'S TRAGIC LIFE
WVW69iaUFPIUOC1Zyc

AEB5-0000-005D-F9D6
Simple platforming. May contain animal cruelty.

MARIO IN THE SKY WITH BOB-OMBS

WVW69ib-D1wULZ_oeL

EBC3-0000-007D-279E
Legends from mushroom kingdom say that a key awaits on a floating island to be brought back to this castle to open the path for a treasure.

KOOPAS INCOMING
WVW69ibojZgVP5mbcg

FC33-0000-0077-9E30
A solitary house is about to be attacked by a powerful koopa fleet! Mario has to get out of here quick. May contain some flying with cape part. Just one.

KEEP COOL AND FIND THE WAY OUT

Thanks in advance for your help!

Also how do you unlock Bowser Jr? And the SMW bonus stage music?

Just looking for more feedback on the course I uploaded yesterday. Got to watch it streamed which was helpful but some constructive (or destructive, I'm not sensitive) criticism would be great :)

A tad too easy and classical but perfect pacing and obstacles placement. Good job!

Monty Kong Jr.

(B5CA-0000-0083-5492)

WVW69icX9n0m-KVzBS

Version 2.0 of my old Donkey Kong Jr. level. It's an accurate (as possible/reasonable) recreation of the arcade game with some tweaks to work with SMB physics and enemies. My biggest change from version 1.0 is a completely NEW FINAL STAGE complete with the same mechanics of the arcade of using the keys on the chains to unlock the platform. I'm really proud of how it all turned out and it's something that really has to be seen in action to really appreciate.

I hope you guys get to check it out and let me know what you think of it.

Jesus Lord. How did you achieve such a thing? You have some sixth sense about the type of levels people are attracted to.
I can't even begin to dream reaching 300 stars. People just don't star. I despise that system since its related to the number of level you can publish.

Done and done. Its a really interesting concept. You play with the idea of bite sized land masses and it works to good effect. You also did a good job of introducing each new concept then expanding on them. It was a good level. I don't really like the end though. Would probably prefer a more traditional end.

It is chaotic, good chaotic really, with the possible exception of that late Thwomp over the pipe. On point though, I'm not sure if the Pow block in the subarea is meant to knock out the Thwomps, but the way it's set up flying and moving away from Mario means a lot has to go right for that to happen. Also do you have to abandon Yoshi once you leave there? That seems mean, poor Yoshi. Good stage though.

That last Thwomp might be a little bullshit, though I did try to make sure that you can definitely see it hanging there in advance.

The POW Block is intended to sort of draw you over to the left side where Yoshi is, and also as a fun way to have all of those coins drop, which I enjoy. It isn't really intended to destroy the Thwomps, since they're easy enough to avoid if you just run fast, and there aren't any other obstacles over there. Though if you do run quickly enough to the left, the last Thwomp will actually land on the POW block by itself.

By leave 'there' do you mean the underground section? You shouldn't have to abandon Yoshi at all, once you get him. As long as you don't lose him from getting hit or falling down a pit or whatever, it's totally possible to beat the stage with him.

Sixfortyfive

He who pursues two rabbits gets two rabbits.
I just noticed that if you open the digital manual and watch the credits sequence, it ends with a score of 9131985. 9-13-1985 was SMB1's release date.

My newest creation:

Mushroom World 1-3 (Lost Levels)
A837-0000-0085-1B25

WVW69ice4oAQf2G_sB

My memory of SMB's 1-3 was really bad. Didn't know it was a very simple stage. I thought it was an underwater level, luckily ice also works yay. Mixed SMB 1-3, Lost Levels 1-3 and 3-3 with some modern touches. Of course it's still mushroom + vine heavy with the occasional wiggler. A few cool secrets are hidden and it has ending that may give new players the shivers hehe.

So I hope this 1-3 sticks around. Like always the Lost Levels tag is not an indication of the difficulty.

I just spent a few hours putting together a course called *~*XxTrEm3 Verticality, Breh*~* and I think I probably took it too far, but nonetheless...

Curious what the experts here have to say! I've only made a couple of levels and I don't have everything unlocked but I tried!

I streamed your stage last night. Quite enjoyed it.

My favorite levels from the last few pages:
•
Both are great levels.

The bob-omb level is very clever. Just a tiny thing: In the part with the boos, it would be nicer to have the upper pipe further down, because of the movement of the airship levels you don't see exactly where you jump, and you have to jump on flying enemies while there are other flying enemies.
It's not a big problem if you know the level and move there fast, but if the boos follow you, it's hard.

So, people should avoid putting important stuff in the highest of lowest tiles of an airship level.

Thanks for playing my levels! I appreciate the feedback and I'm glad you guys enjoyed them.

Also, double post but my course is up and ready.

Seize The Moment
0021-0000-0084-0602

Like I said, it IS possible to finish it.
Without spoiling it for others (unless in tagged spoilers), how tricky did you find it? Was reaching the goal a pain for you? Do you think a level like that could work on a larger scale?

It's not that hard, did it on my second try. I liked it.

At first it looked like a random chaos level where some kid just dumped some trampolines and random enemies, but you can actually do it without needing luck, surprised me.
You are meant to use the shell of the koopa that escapes the pit to kill the enemies, right?

I don't think it would work as a larger level. To me the point was to figure out that it isn't just chaos and that one koopa can be used to progress. More of the same would not make you think or use some skill, just add more opportunities for a random death.
Unless you can expand the concept in a meaningful way, such levels shouldn't be much bigger.

so after streaming for a while and getting some shitty "hard" levels i thought i would make my own challenging level but with good design (i admit the end could use some adjusting though). I rather use the word challenging rather than hard, as I dont think its hard at all.

I made a level called The Mario Trials. its basically almost pure platforming, but you can see every obstacle/danger in advance. so no blind jumps or surprise enemies

Please tell me what you think and what adjustments i should make as i plan to do more of these later in the future

B908-0000-0085-67F4

i just saw that it took a picture of the start instead of the middle like i chose when i saved it >< oh well!

Couldn't catch the stream since I was at work but thanks for playing my course! Audio died before you cleared it so I couldn't hear your comments :(

Also, from watching you play I found I messed up one part lol but it's not a big deal

what level was yours?

I revised my flying obstacle course with the feedback I got and I think it's a better, more consistent course now (no flame bars in flight). I still think this one rules if you're a cape fan.

Both of these were fun and well designed, but the second one is especially good. At parts it really did feel like a real World level. The difficulty is pretty fair and there's no overload of enemies or cheap hits.

New level.

Mariotroid: Other BR - 1CE1-0000-0085-8BB7
Other BR. Genius. I'll give this a try. Edit: Didn't feel too Metroidy to me (except bombing the wall and what I assume were the energy refill rooms) but that's okay. It was a fun level, and there were enough powerups to keep to the theme a bit more.
I certainly enjoyed it more than Other M, so you've got that going for you.

Two more I made:

Offscreen olympics 228D 0000 0079 2BB4
A SMB3 level that takes place at the tippy top of the screen, and you must be careful as the level scrolls partially offscreen!

Spiky Squid Skyway 0E62 0000 007A F69A
A SMW level. Spikes. Squids. In the sky!!!!

Both levels are somewhat straightforward Mario levels.

After a chain of troll stages, back to a regular stage that attempts to be legit.

Difficulty somewhere around world 2 / 3

Just sharing my levels again

Sounds of Super Mario Maker: D31C-0000-0085-9829
Listen to the wonderful sounds of Super Mario Maker. You don't have to do much in this level.

Diddy's Banana Coin Plantation: 44DB-0000-0082-7881
A fairly simple level centered around vine hopping and coin collecting.

10 seconds to finish: 08F9-0000-007C-6742
3.68% completion rate (7completed/190 attempts). It only takes less than 10 seconds to win so why not give it a shot!

Welcome to the Star Show: 1CBE-0000-0079-6BE2
Enjoy the star show! This is a short level with no challenge whatsoever (even though people still die).

Runnin' & Jumpin' feat. lotsa $$: 6FE7-0000-0074-CF09
A challenge level that mostly requires you to maintain your momentum.

Becoming Little Mac: 0BF4-0000-006A-1AE4
You start off as little Mario who, after a series of training sessions and bouts, becomes the unstoppable Little Mac.

A ghastly build: CA60-0000-005E-BFD5
Based on the Builder Mario amiibo, this level requires you to create your pathway to the finish.

Airship Assault: BCEB-0000-005B-097F
A challenge level that features a lot of projectiles.

Rush: 0A57-0000-001B-18C3
The first level my brother and I built. It's short and challenging.

Other BR.
I based it off of parts of areas from Super Metroid, but I figured it wasn't going to play 100% like Metroid from the outset.
